TODAY at 19.30 at  the LEONARDO BUILDING'S TERRACE CAFETERIA:

SPECIAL SUMMER  SOCIAL NITE for ICTP course participants, scientists, staff. Join in the fun and start the evening at the Aperitif corner, have your meal at the special self-service buffet, then watch several exciting DANCE Performances (from 20.30, for about an hour). After the performances,  carry on with 1980s disco music until 23.00. Enjoy your evening.

At the Sartorio Museum in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII - Painting exhibition by neoclassic painter Giuseppe Bernardino Bison (1762-1844). Open until 13/10/2013, Mondays to Sundays 10.00 - 18.00.

 

At the ONE SAN Gallery in via S. Nicolo', 1, Trieste:  "The poetry of the essential", an exhibit of works by historical Triestine artist Luigi Spacal (1907-2000), sixty works on display until 21/7/2013. Open Tuesdays -Saturdays,  10-13 and 17-20.

 

At the Civico Museo della civiltà istriana, fiumana e dalmata in via Torino 8 (behind the Revoltella Museum) Painting exhibition by Triestine painter Argio Orell (1884-1942). Open until 4/8/13, Mondays to Saturdays, 10.00-12.30/16.00-18.30; Sundays 10.00-13.00.

JAZZ

The TriesteLovesJazz 2013 Event in Piazza Verdi (in the open, close to Piazza Unita') features: On Fri. 12 July at 21.00: Anthony Strong, considered the next jazz superstar form the UK will play classic jazz and rhythmic swing. On Sat. 13 July at 21.00: Riccardo Morpurgo one of the best young talents, will play jazz on the piano; the New York Quintet will play classical jazz reinterpreted to a modern pace.

 

TOURING THIS AREA

GUIDED TOUR OF TRIESTE every day at 10.30 a.m.: A 2 hours guided walking tour through the main sites and monuments of Trieste. The tour is in Italian and English and costs euro 7/pers. The Natural History Museum - See one of the most intact dinosaur skeletons in the world: "Antonio", a  dinosaur discovered in Trieste (Duino) a few years ago, see fossils, old 1800 furniture, books, instruments and old and new mirabilia. The Miramare Castle is right next to the ICTP and is open every day - except on Monday mornings - from 9.00 to 18.30. Entrance to the surrounding park is free (8.00 - 19.00). The location, gardens, castle with the lovely decor and furnishings, paintings,rooms full of history are not to be missed. Ticket: Euro 4/head. For more info: www.castello-miramare.it/

 

The Natural Reserve of Miramare, WWF, is located in a building inside the park of  Miramare and is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 - 13:00 and 14:00 - 16:00. Entrance costs Euro 2,50/head. www.riservamarinamiramare.it/.

 

The Science Centre Laboratorio dell'Immaginario at the Adriatico Guesthouse, (Grignano), is an interactive and multimedial museum. It has interesting experiments and videos and more. It hosts exhibitions, events and activities with the aim of spreading scientific and technological culture. There are special programs for children each month. Open January to May and October to December only on Sundays from 12.00 - 20.00. The Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante is considered the largest tourist cave in the world, situated in

the Triestine Karst (Carso), half an hour from the city center. An exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each visit lasts one hour. Entrance ticket:  Euro 11/each. For groups of over 15 persons: Euro 5/head. Take bus 42 from Piazza Oberdan and get off at Borgo Grotta, Sgonico – proceed by foot for 5 minutes – follow road sign for Grotta Gigante. Wear comfortable shoes, no heels. SUMMER FERRIES

Ferry boats to Slovenia & Croatia ongoing until 1st September: hydrofoils departing from  Molo IV (2' from the train station) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Also this Saturday 6/7 to the Slovenian coastal town of Pirano and to the Croatian town of Rovigno. Take your valid ID card/passport along and buy yr ticket at the Samer & Co. shipping in Molo IV at least 45 mins before departing. Art summer campus for Your KIDS

This summer several interesting initiatives have been organized by the main museums in Trieste for your kids.  They are summer campuses, lasting one week each, from 8.30-9.00 to 12.30-14.00 and for kids from 5-10 yrs. of age.
