AAART EXHIBITIONS

 

At the Sartorio Museum in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII - Painting exhibition by neoclassic painter Giuseppe Bernardino Bison (1762-1844). Open until 13/10/2013, Mondays to Sundays 10.00 - 18.00.

 

At the Civico Museo della civiltà istriana, fiumana e dalmata in via Torino 8 (behind the Revoltella Museum) Painting exhibition by Triestine painter Argio Orell (1884-1942). Open until 4/8/13, Mondays to Saturdays, 10.00-12.30/16.00-18.30; Sundays 10.00-13.00.

 

At Lux Art Gallery in via Rittmeyer, 7 , Trieste solo art show "Da New York a Trieste" by artist Franco Manià displaying 80 paintings. Open 17.00 - 20.00. Ongoing until 12/7.

 

At the ONE SAN Gallery in via S. Nicolo', 1, Trieste:  "The poetry of the essential", an exhibit of works by historical Triestine artist Luigi Spacal (1907-2000), sixty works on display until 21/7/2013. Open Tuesdays -Saturdays,  10-13 and 17-20.

CLASSICAL MUSIC

On Friday, 5 July at 19.30 in the Park of the Miramare Castle: A selection of the "Barbiere di Siviglia" by G. Rossini, a concert meant to raise funds to cover the costs for 800 flowering plants in the Miramare Park since the institution cannot afford it. Everybody is invited to join and contribute towards this plan.

TOURING THIS AREA

GUIDED TOUR OF TRIESTE every day at 10.30 a.m.: A 2 hours guided walking tour through the main sites and monuments of Trieste. The tour is in Italian and English and costs euro 7/pers. The Natural History Museum - See one of the most intact dinosaur skeletons in the world: "Antonio", a  dinosaur discovered in Trieste (Duino) a few years ago, see fossils, old 1800 furniture, books, instruments and old and new mirabilia. The Miramare Castle is right next to the ICTP and is open every day - except on Monday mornings - from 9.00 to 18.30. Entrance to the surrounding park is free (8.00 - 19.00). The Natural Reserve of Miramare, WWF, is located in a building inside the park of  Miramare and is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 - 13:00 and 14:00 - 16:00. Entrance costs Euro 2,50/head. www.riservamarinamiramare.it/.

 

The Science Centre Laboratorio dell'Immaginario at the Adriatico Guesthouse, (Grignano), is an interactive and multimedial museum. It has interesting experiments and videos and more. It hosts exhibitions, events and activities with the aim of spreading scientific and technological culture. There are special programs for children each month. Open January to May and October to December only on Sundays from 12.00 - 20.00. The Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante is considered the largest tourist cave in the world, situated in

the Triestine Karst (Carso), half an hour from the city center. An exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each visit lasts one hour. Entrance ticket:  Euro 11/each. For groups of over 15 persons: Euro 5/head. Take bus 42 from Piazza Oberdan and get off at Borgo Grotta, Sgonico – proceed by foot for 5 minutes – follow road sign for Grotta Gigante. Wear comfortable shoes, no heels. DREHER BEER MUSEUM

The only one of the kind in Italy in via Torrebianca 41, Trieste. It displays objects, documents, posters, ads that belong to the historical tradition of this old beer factory. Open only on Wednesdays, from 16.30 - 19.00. For more info see www.birrofilatriestina.it

 

SUMMER FERRIES

Summer ferries (Delfino Verde) to Grado until 1/9/13: Every day departure from Molo Audace in Trieste (close to Piazza Unità) at 08:15, 12.45 and 16:45. Trip lasts one and a half hours. One way ticket: euro 6,65 / return 10,10. Check:  http://www.aptgorizia.it/cms/data/pages/servizi_marittima.aspx

Ferry boats to Slovenia & Croatia ongoing until 1st September: hydrofoils departing from  Molo IV (2' from the train station) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Also this Saturday 6/7 to the Slovenian coastal town of Pirano and to the Croatian town of Rovigno. Take your valid ID card/passport along and buy yr ticket at the Samer & Co. shipping in Molo IV at least 45 mins before departing. FILM FESTIVAL

MAREMETRAGGIO INTERNATIONAL, SHORT FILM  FESTIVAL (only until Saturday, 6 July)

TONITE is dedicated to KAZAKHSTAN with the screening of "Il cielo della mia infanzia" (My childhood sky) at Teatro Miela, Via Cavour, very close to the Central train Station (2' walk). There will also be a photography exhibit with sceneries and cultural aspects of the country. Free entrance. For further info: www.maremetraggio.com 

 

On Saturday the Summer Sales begin downtown for the "SHOPPING UNDER THE STARS" event with shops open until MIDNIGHT.

Trieste's centre and all the shops will be open in the evening and there will be lots of movement, music and free drinks in some stalls. Enjoy your shopping!

 

Art summer campus for Your KIDS

This summer several interesting initiatives have been organized by the main museums in Trieste for your kids.  They are summer campuses, lasting one week each, from 8.30-9.00 to 12.30-14.00 and for kids from 5-10 yrs. of age. Children will enjoy themselves playing, getting to know about art, painting, drawing, reading, etc., courses are in Italian  and cost per week is 100 Euro/each For info call: 040 6754350/3402479963.

 

 

ADVENTURE PARK

Spend a few hours at the recently inaugurated Trieste's Adventure Park and enjoy a sporty, acrobatic fun time jumping from one tree to another, "flying" like Tarzan from one location to another and many other fun trails. The park is in the midst of the karst

and its amazing nature, close to Sistiana, so don't miss it for an unforgettable experience. Take the boat from Grignano to Sistiana (schedules> www.triestetrasporti.it/index.php?trieste-barcola-grignano-sistiana) and then take bus 43 from Sistiana to Ceroglie, Duino Aurisina . When you get off at Ceroglie, walk about 10 minutes to reach the park. Tickets for 2,5 hrs.:  Adults 17 euro/each, Kids 6-8 yrs old, 12 euro;  9-14 yrs old:  14 euro;  15-17 yrs old  15 euro. OSMIZE

For those interested in going to an "osmiza" or private farm house in the karst hills, there are many open during this weekend. The origins of the osmiza dates back to the Austrian times when the Austrian Emperor Joseph II gave permission to all his citizens to sell directly their wine and some of their own goods (cheese, eggs, bread, ham) for a period of eight days. FLEA Market every Friday down in Sistiana Bay, in the Caravella Park from 18:00 - 23:00. You can get to Sistiana with the airport bus 51 or take bus 44 from Piazza Oberdan and walk down to the bay here there are several food and drink stalls, music and summer fun.
