ART EXHIBITIONS

 

Visit the art exhibit at the Adriatico Guest House (II Floor) by the Art Forum of Styria with Claudia Fallosch, Renée Pilecky, Anton S. Frick, Gerhard Pilz and Igor Skale (who passed away recently). In these works, the artists emphasize the unique role of the spirit and emotions in science and the importance of creative thinking that covers a wide spectrum of fields/thoughts/actions/works being an essential tool towards awareness and open-mindedness. Visit the VI Edition of the "Salone d'autunno dell'arte triestina", at the Art&Space showroom in Via San Nicolo' 4. An interesting collection of contemporary Triestine artists.  Ongoing until 9/12, from Tuesday to Saturday from 17.00 to 20.00. For further info: 333 8345924.

 

CLASSICAL MUSIC

At the Miela Theatre (Piazza duca degli Abruzzi, 3) on Monday 10/12 at 20.30 "Natale all'Opera: La Traviata and Tosca"  ("Christmas at the Opera") with music by Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini. Free entrance.

 

At the Verdi Theatre (Piazza Verdi) on 6/12 at 20.30 last performance of: "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" (The Barber of Seville"), an opera buffa in two acts based on the libretto by Cesare Sterbini, music by Gioacchino Rossini. This is one of the greatest masterpieces of musical comedy. The premiere took place on 20 February 1816 at the Teatro Argentina in Rome and was a disastrous failure. However, the second performance was a roaring success and even after two hundred years, its popularity attests its greatness.  The orchestra is directed by Maestro Corrado Rovaris and the chorus by Maestro Paolo Vero. "Le quattro stagioni dell'Amor cortese" (Four seasons of courtly love") at the Basilica di San Silvestro (Via del Collegio) on 9/12 at 16.30. Concert of medieval music organized by Wunderkammer-Trieste and performed by  the Dramsam Ensemble.

THEATRE

"Il teatrante" ("The ham actor") at the Rossetti Theatre (Viale XX Settembre 45) on Friday 7/12 and Saturday 8/12 at 20.30 and on Sunday 9/12 at 16.00. Under the direction of Franco Branciaroli, the show is based on the novel by Thomas Bernhard, in which the main character (Branciaroli himself) is an old, frustrated and presumptuous actor.  Tickets from Euro 12.00.

 

FOR KIDS (3-7 YEARS)

For the cycle "Ti racconto una fiaba" ("I tell you a fairy tale") on Sunday 9/12 at Orazio Bobbio Theatre (Via del Ghirlandaio 12; Tel. 040/390613): "Mare".  Entrance Ticket euro 7.

 

At the Biblioteca Stelio Mattioni (Stelio Mattioni Library) in Via Laura e Silvano Petracco, 10 (Borgo S. Sergio). The exhibit "I musicanti di Brema - Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten" ("the Town Musicians of Bremen" ). On display, the original illustrations of the renowned book by the Grimm Brothers replicated by illustrator Claudia Palmarucci. MISCELLANEA

Trieste Science+Fiction 2012-Film Festival, from 5 to 9 December at the Sala Tripcovich  (nearby the Central Train Station) and the adjoining palace of the Casa del Cinema (Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi 3 - ex Casa del lavoratore Portuale), organized by La Cappella Underground in cooperation and with the suport of Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia and Ministero Beni e attivita' culturali. Both national and international  prestigious previews in science fiction, fantasy e horror movies will be combined to other events related to comic strips, literature and television. Three prizes will be assigned: the Asteroide Prize for the best science fiction full-length film; the Méliès d'Argento Prize for the best fantasy film and best short film; the public will vote for the Audience Prize.

All films are shown in their original language (mostly English), with Italian subtitles.

Holders of ICTP badges are entitled to a reduced subscription ticket (15 euro instead of 20 euro) to view all films (it can be purchased at Hotel Continentale - via S. Nicolo' these days, or at Sala Tripcovich on 5 December.) In addition, holders of ICTP badges are entitled to free entrance to the show of "Errors of the Human Body" on 6 December at 17:15 at Sala Tripvcovich.

Single ticket: Euro 4; it can be purchased from the Sala Tripcovich on the day of screening (no advanced booking, no discount applied) from 17.00 on Wednesday 5/12, and from 14.00 on following days.

For the cycle "12 incontri-aperitivi con ascolti guidati" at the Antico Caffe' San Marco (Via Battisti 18 - Tel. 349 4695027): "Haendel’s chamber music " on Tuesday 11/12 from 18.00 to 19.30: a listening guide to the music production by Georg Friedrich Händel. Each meeting with aperitif lasts 1.30 hour under the supervision of Maestro Valentino Sani (historian and musician), with the aid of videos and listenings. Admission euro 8/head. Ongoing until 8/12 the San Nicolo' Fair  in Viale XX Settembre, from 8.00 to 23.00: traditional market with all types of objects, foodstuff, candies, books and Christmas decorations.

 

In Piazza Ponterosso  an Ice Rink will be set from 30/11 to 6/1/13! Lot of fun for everyone, both adults and children!!!
