“1912-2012 100 ANNI DI SINAGOGA A TRIESTE. CARLO MORPURGO, LA TRAGEDIA DI UN UOMO ONESTO" (1912-2012 One hundred years with Trieste’s synagogue. Carlo Morpurgo, the tragedy of an honest man) at the Jewish Museum "Carlo e Vera Wagner" (Via del Monte 5-7) Photography exhibition focusing on the Synagogue and on Carlo Morpurgo, secretary of the Jewish Community during the Nazi occupation. Hi-tech Creative Photography Exhibition by Roberto Bubnich at the Antico Caffe' San Marco (Via Battisti, 18) ongoing until 17/11. This historical cafe' was founded in 1914 and used to be one of the main venues of the "intelligentsia" of the city, like Italo Svevo, Umberto Saba, James Joyce. 

 

MUSEUM

Visit the Sartorio Museum, an ancient 18th century Villa that belonged to a rich merchant family. There are beautiful rooms with antique furniture and important art collections, paintings, jewellery, furnitures, silverware as well as 254 drawings by Tiepolo (1696-1770, a famous Venetian artist), Santa Chiara's triptic and more recently, Fittcke's paintings. Ticket euro 5,50.  The Sartorio is situated in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII, n.1, open Tuesday - Sunday 9:00 - 13:00. Take bus 30.

 

THEATRE

"Oscura immensita'" ("Dark immensity") at the Rossetti Theatre (Viale XX Settembre 45) on 15/11 at 20.30. Under the direction of Alessandro Gassmann, the show is based on the novel "The dark immensity of death" by Massimo Carlotto and tells a tragic, true story.  Amongst the actors: Giulio Scarpati e Claudio Casadio. Tickets from Euro 12.00.

 

OPERETTA:

"Goodbye Berlin-In viaggio con Kurt Weil" ("Goodbye Berlin-Travelling with Kurt Weil") on 16/11 and 18/11 at 21.00; on 17/11 at 17.00. Just like Kurt Weill, the two protagonists will leave Germany for the United States because of the Nazi rise to power.

"Un calicetto con Suppe'"("A glass of champagne glass with Mr. Suppe'") on 17/11 at 21.00 and on 18/11 at 17.00.  A Theatrical/musical tribute by Maurizio Solda' to the great Dalmatian composer, father of the Viennese operetta. FILMS - ENGLISH LANGUAGE - PROGRAMME 2012/13

Several great films at the Ariston Cinema (Viale Romolo Gessi 14 - Buses 8, 9 & 15) for members of the British Film Club, Trieste. Membership entitles to borrow books and choose from an enthralling collection of DVDs (including the best of British TV) for free from the British Film Club in Via dei Crociferi,3 (ground floor), beginning Friday 16/11.

"Musica Fluida"

Sunday 18/11, at the Miramare Castle's Throne Hall at 16.30: Wunderkammer has organized "carte blanche' a concert by Hopkinson Smith, universally recognized as the most important contemporary lute player. Born in New York, graduated at Harvard University, he is one of the most spectacular instrumentalists of our times.
