SPECIAL EVENT: "LA BARCOLANA" REGATTA - Sunday, 14 October 2012
The most famous sailing regatta in the Mediterranean Sea will take place in the Gulf of Trieste on Sunday 14th October. “Trieste – home of the Barcolana" has become the event which best expresses the character of the whole area, when professionals of international standing and skilled amateurs compete for the Autumn Cup (Coppa d’Autunno) and thousands of boats cover the sea. The whole of the Trieste sea-front is transformed into the “Villaggio Barcolana” which hosts stalls serving local and international food specialities, sector-based shops and themed meetings.
If you want to see this spectacular sight, there are great views from the Napoleonica route (bus nrs. 2 from Piazza Oberdan), Strada del Friuli (bus nrs. 42 or 44 from Piazza Oberdan) or just take bus nr. 36 to Barcola. For more information check: www.barcolana.it.
ART EXHIBITIONS
At the Civic Art Gallery (in Piazza Unita' 4): "Controcanto" ("Counter melody"), photography exhibit by Giorgetta Dorfles, a collection of 30 photos taken from 2001 to 2011 divided in 2 sections: "The new world" and "Abstractions". At Studio Tommaseo (Via del Monte 2/1) "The adventure of the real", photography exhibition: a tribute to Breda Beban, born in Novi Sad (Serbia), lived and worked in London until her death this year, considered one of the most significant artists in Great Britain, an extraordinary interpreter of European culture both as photographer and film director. In Muggia (Negrisin Municipal Art Gallery): YOKO LENNON TITO- A conceptual event and a tribute to the symbolic meeting between Yoko Ono, John Lennon and Josip Broz Tito, head of the former Yugoslav government for almost 40 years but also an art lover and an amateur photographer. At the end of the Sixties, John and Yoko sent Tito and 50 world leaders, a couple of acorns to plant in the name of Peace in the world. Today, these acorns have turned into 45-year-old oaks. At the Stelio Crise Municipal Library (above Piazza Hortis, in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII): art show "Painters from Hamburg in Trieste" with music and special lighting. Six German painters exhibit contemporary paintings depicting landscapes, the sea and the architecture of Trieste. Ongoing until 31/10/2012. At the Miramare Castle's Wind Rose hall: "Si' dolce e' il tormento" (So sweet the Torment), an exhibition of three masterpieces by Lucas Cranach the Elder, one of the renown masters of the Reinaissance: Ongoing until 30/10, from 9.00 to 19.00. PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW AT the ICTP
At the Adriatico Guesthouse: an international photography exhibit entitled "POLLUTION". On display there are the works of about 20 photographers selected by the popular JULIET Art Magazine. The exhibit will be presented by Mr. Boris Brollo, art critic and President of the International Association of Plastic Arts - Aiap -that operates under the aegis of Unesco and by Mr. Alessio Curto, deputy director of Juliet Art Magazine. MISCELLANEA
The Carsiana Botanical Garden. Is located within a "dolina" (sinkhole) in Sgonico, 18 km from Trieste. It was created in 1964 to collect, conserve and exhibit the native flora of the Karst in its natural context. The garden is open until Sunday 14/10, with the following schedule: Friday: 9.30 – 13.00; Saturday - Sunday: 10.00-13.00, 15.00-19.00. Ticket: Euro 3.00; Reduced: Euro 2.00. Opening of archeological sites.
During "The Barcolana" week (8/10 - 14/10) and until 26/10 a few archeological sites of Trieste's Roman period will be exceptionally open: The Basilica Paleocristiana (Via Madonna del Mare 11 - Bus nr.24) and the Antiquiarium (Via Donota - Bus nr. 17,18,25,28) with the following times: 10.00-13.00 /15.00-18.00: the Basilica only on Monday, Thursday and Friday; the Antiquarium on Tuesday and Wednesday. While from 15/10 to 26/10 only in the afternoons (same schedules). Archeologists will be at your disposal for any information on the sites. "Lungo binari sconosciuti" (Along unknown track lines). The Association "Ferstoria" promotes and organizes a special panoramic tour on 13/10 along the historical track lines of Trieste: Campo Marzio-Rozzol-Opicina-Aurisina-Miramare-Trieste and viceversa. It is a unique occasion to cover routes that are no longer in use. The train will be pulled by the electrical engine "Minuetto" (Minuet). For more info: 040-9896112.
