ART EXHIBITIONS

Sunday 7/10: Last chance to visit the exhibition "Rembrandt. Incidere la luce (Rembrandt. Engrave the light) at the Miramare Castle stables, close to the ICTP. This building was planned by Carl Junker and built between 1856 and 1860 on the road to the Castle. There are engravings by the great Dutch artist, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606 - 1669), famous painter & engraver and 3 works by Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528). Open from 10.00 -13.00/14.30 -18.30.

PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW AT  the ICTP

At the Adriatico Guesthouse: an international photography exhibit entitled "POLLUTION". On display there are the works of about 20 photographers selected by the popular JULIET Art Magazine.  The exhibit will be presented by Mr. Boris Brollo, art critic and President of the International Association of Plastic Arts - Aiap -that operates under the aegis of Unesco and by Mr. Alessio Curto, deputy director of Juliet Art Magazine.  The selected photographers are: Cinzia Ambrosini, Luca Carrà, Nada Cingolani, Sabine Delafon, Giuseppe Desiato, DNA 79 (Francesco Sbaiz), Raoul Gilioli, Rino Gropuzzo, Plinio Martelli, Maurizio Melozzi, Marco Moschini, Gianni Pasinato, Adriano Perini, Paolo Pirona, Matjaž Prešeren, Stefano Reia, Fabio Rinaldi, Mario Sillani Djerrahian, Willmar Schwabe, Oliviero Toscani, Pierre Verrier, Valerio Vivian.  Ongoing until 26 October, Mondays through Fridays, from 10-19.

 

THEATRE

At "S.Pellico" Theatre (Via Ananian 5/2) Theme theatre show: Who is in charge? On Friday 5/10 at 20.30: "La vita e' un romanzo, signore!" (Life is a novel, sir!) by Edy Tonon, directed by Bruno Cappelletti; on Saturday 6/10 at 20.30 "Le serve" (The maids) by Jean Genet, directed by Sandro Rossit; on Sunday 7/10 at 17.30 "Fools" by Neil Simon, directed by Andrea Chiappori. FILMS - ENGLISH LANGUAGE - PROGRAMME 2012/13

British Film Club New Season is starting in November at the Ariston Cinema (Viale Romolo Gessi 14; buses 8, 9, 15). 9 films in their original English sound track are programmed on Wednesdays (at 16.00, 18.00, 20.00) and Thursdays (14.00, 16.00, 18.00, 20.00, 22.00). The admission to the screenings is for members only (aged 16 and over) and the annual subscription fee is Euro 25. Membership cards will be available at the Alpha Studio Travel Agency, in via S.Nicolo' 19 (1st floor - above the Swatch shop, opposite the Bar Ferrari), from 8/10 to 31/10 (Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 12.00 and from 16.00 to 18.00).

CLASSICAL MUSIC

Trieste Verdi Theatre Symphony Season: on Friday 5/10 at 20.30 and Saturday 6/10 at 18.00 with music by Triestine Eugenio Visnoviz (1906-1931; "Gavotta e Musette" for Orchestra and "Hochzeitsmusik 1931" for the strings) and Johannes Brahms ("Primo concerto in re minore per pianoforte op.15"). TOUR TRIESTE

The Miramare Castle is right next to the ICTP and is open every day from 9.00 to 18.30. Entrance to the surrounding park is free (8.00 - 19.00). The Duino Castle is one of the most attractive castles in Europe and is still the official residence of the Torre e Tasso royal family. From its cliff top location there is a stunning view of the sea as it overlooks a small fishing village and is surrounded by colourful, extensive gardens. Inside, you can admire the furnishings, paintings, books and mementoes collected over centuries; visit its beautiful park and the World War 2 bunker. It is open from 9.30 to 17.30; closed on Tuesdays. On Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th a new part of the park will be open to the public. The Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante

The cave is considered the largest tourist cave in the world, situated on the Triestine Karst and an exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of the earth's crust.  The temperature is constantly around 11º and the tour lasts around one hour. MISCELLANEOUS

On Friday 5/10 at Teatro Miela (Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi, 3) at 21.00: "Afrofest - Cuore d'Africa in Evoluzione (Heart of Africa in Evolution). On 13/10 Lungo binari sconosciuti (Along unknown track lines). The Association "Ferstoria" promotes and organizes a special panoramic tour along the historical track lines of Trieste: Campo Marzio-Rozzol-Opicina-Aurisina-Miramare-Trieste and viceversa. It is a unique occasion to cover routes that are no longer in use. The train will be pulled by the electrical  engine "Minuetto" (Minuet). For more info: 040-9896112.

 

NATURE AT ITS BEST:

The Joseph Ressel path in Basovizza

This is an interesting and innovative way to learn about the Carso woods, fauna, plants, and geology. This walk is one of the first in Europe to be equipped with infrared transmitters system that will give you vocal info in English Italian or Slovene regarding environmental and historical peculiarities of the Carso territory. A receiver can be collected at no charge at the "Centro didattico naturalistico" (naturalistic educational centre) located at the entrance of the town of Basovizza (Via Gruden 34). You can reach the village of Basovizza by city Bus 51 from Trieste Train Station.

SPECIAL EVENT: "LA BARCOLANA"  REGATTA - 6 - 14 October 2012

The most famous sailing regatta in the Mediterranean Sea will take place in the Gulf of Trieste on Sunday 14th October. “Trieste – home of the Barcolana" has become the event which best expresses the character of the whole area, when professionals of international standing and skilled amateurs compete for the Autumn Cup (Coppa d’Autunno) and thousands of boats cover the sea. The Barcolana is, however, not only the race itself as from Saturday 6 October onwards, the whole of the Trieste sea-front is transformed into the “Villaggio Barcolana” which hosts stalls serving local and international food specialities, sector-based shops and themed meetings. On Saturday 6/10 at 18.00: Music concert with the Luma Lourenco 4tet. The main singer (Ms Heloisa Lourenco, alias Luma) is a great interpreter of brazilian music. Venue: Scala Reale, in front of Bacino San Giusto, on the seaside promenade after Piazza Unita'. Bus nr.8. Free entrance.

 

OUTSIDE TRIESTE

Cavalli e Profumo di mosto (Horses and smell of must): ongoing on 5, 7 and 10 October at Medeazza (Duino -Aurisina). Horses, games and races, music, shows and entertainment, food and wine events for everybody! Take bus nr 44 from Piazza Oberdan to S.Giovanni di Duino. There will be shuttle  buses from there to the location of the festival.
