ART EXHIBITIONS
The
Hydrodynamic Plant in the Porto Vecchio of Trieste has recently been opened to
the public and is a
Museum. It is a fascinating 1890 newly restored building that was
powered by
water and wazs running until 1930. Afterwards, water was replaced by
electricity and the plant was active until 1980 and then shut for 30
years. The
original machineries are on display. Open each day from 9:30 to 13:00.

Opening of
"Ibridamente", solo exhibition by Triestine artist Fabio Fonda with a
series of graphic art works at the Civic
Art Gallery in Piazza Unita' d'Italia,

At
the Civic Museum Sartorio - Ongoing until 10/9:
"Blooming
Salons. Still Life in Municipal Museums". The exhibition includes
about 30 works
(paintings, drawings and some embroderies) on flowers and fruit. Some
of them
are part of Sartorio's furnitures, others come from different
collections.

"Serendipity
in a park of books. The dream of an English garden". The exhibition is about the
great love
and interest for gardens of Baron Giovanni Guglielmo Sartorio, owner of
the
neoclassic villa which hosts the Museum named after his family. He
studied
botanics and English gardening for decades.

Ragtime Jazz Band at

TOUR
TRIESTE
The
Miramare Castle - outstandingly beautiful - is right next
to the ICTP and is open every day from 9.00 to
18.30. Entrance to the surrounding park is free (8.00 - 19.00). The

gardens, castle with the lovely decor and furnishings, paintings, rooms
full of

The Duino Castle is
one of the most
attractive castles in Europe and is still the official residence of the
Torre e
Tasso royal family. From its cliff top location there is a stunning
view of the
sea as it overlooks a small fishing village and is surrounded by
colourful,
extensive gardens. Inside, you can admire the furnishings, paintings,
books and
mementoes collected over centuries, visit its beautiful park and the
World War

The Giant Cave - Grotta
Gigante
The
cave is considered the largest
tourist cave in the world, situated on the Triestine Karst and an
exclusive
feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by
university
researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of the
earth's
crust. The temperature is

Every Friday evening at
21.00 take
part in the event "Sailing through science", at the Civic Sea Museum in Via Campo Marzio 5 where biologists,
writers, musicians, sailors, historians, fishermen,
students, teachers and documentarists are united by the passion and
desire to
tell stories about the sea and those who live close to it. On
Friday 7/9:
"I Poeti del
mare" (Poets
of the sea) e "Una
notte con i pescatori" (One night with the fishermen): a collection of
videos that was awarded at the National contest "Vivere il Mare"
(Living the sea), edited by the students and the teachers from the
School Luigi

Visit The Victory
Lighthouse (Faro
della
Vittoria) in Strada del Friuli.
The
lighthouse was built by the famous
Triestine
architect Berlam. It is a commemorative monument dedicated to the
fallen
soldiers of World War I. Great for photos if it's a nice day. Open
(April–September):

"La
Napoleonica" Panoramic route mostly
overlooking the sea, Trieste
Take Bus 4 from Piazza
Oberdan to the
"Obelisco" and go walking or jogging on the Napoleonica (Napoleon's
path). If you wish, you can take path number 12 (marked by C.A.I -
Italian
Alpine Club) and reach the Sanctuary of Monte Grisa, proceed to Opicina
through
the Via Crucis path (number 12) and finally return to the Obelisk and
take the
bus back to the city (approx. 2 hours for the whole tour, 1 hour only
for "Napoleon's path).
Hiking in Val
Rosandra (half or full day), Trieste
Provided the
weather is fine and sunny, the Val
Rosandra Valley encloses a remarkable natural
environment and a walk through its paths, and by the stream and natural
ponds,
surrounded by typical carsic vegetation is worth it. Make sure you have
good
sneakers on and enough water. Walk along colour-marked footpaths, each
marked
by CAI (Italian Alpine Club), ranging from very easy paths to others
that
require a certain ability. There are easily accessible caves for
speleology and
archaeology lovers. You can reach the Valley by taking Bus
40 from the Central
Train Station in Trieste and get off in Bagnoli della Rosandra.
