ART EXHIBITIONS

Today, at 18.30 at the Modern Art Gallery "Salone degli Incanti" (once a fishmarket) in Riva Nazario Sauro 1, inauguration of the photography exhibition by photoreporter Monica Bulaj: "Nur/Luce - Appunti afgani" (Afghan notes). "Rembrandt. Incidere la luce (Rembrandt. Engrave light) at the Stables of the Castle of Miramare, Trieste. This building was planned by Carl Junker and built between 1856 and 1860 on the road to the Castle. There are engravings by the great Dutch artist, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606 - 1669), famous painter & engraver and 3 works by Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528). Winckelmann and Art of ancient Egypt (Winckelmann e l'arte presso gli egizi), Civico Museo di Storia ed Arte - Orto Lapidario, Piazza della Cattedrale 1. The collection counts more than 1000 findings, thus being one amongst the best collections in Italy, after those in Torino, Firenze, Bologna and Milano. I Fiori di Hollywood (The flowers of Hollywood): Cinema festival at Theatre "Franco e Franca Basaglia (Via Weiss, 13 - Park of San Giovanni), organized by University of Trieste, IPSIA "L.Galvani of Trieste, Agricola Monte San Pantaleone with the support of the Province of Trieste. On Saturday 4/8: City Lights, 1931 by Charlie Chaplin (a silent film that stands as one of the great landmarks in cinema). Admission: voluntary donation.

ENTERTAINMENT

"Lights and Sounds. The Imperial dream of Maximilian of Habsburg, from Miramare to Mexico": a new version of the show that used to attract people for the past decades about the Miramare Castle. The show, through illustrations, music and sound effects, will tell the sad and unfortunate story of Maximilian of Habsburg, Archduke of Austria and Emperor of Mexico and his wife, Carlotta from Belgium. Now showing in Piazza Venezia (two minutes walk from Piazza Unita') every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evening until 18/8. The show is free of charge.

Saturday 4/8 at 9.00pm in Barcola, on the seafront promenade Benedetto Croce at the fountain “The irresistible shabby Solfrini Company " A seller of almanacs arrives in the public square and entertains the crowd pouring the contents of the almanacs that, he said, should accompany the life of all. Starring: Remigio Teodorovich and Maurizio Soldà. Free.

 

TOUR TRIESTE

The Friuli Venezia Giulia TOURIST POINT on the corner of Piazza Unità organizes guided walking tours (in Italian and English) every day at 10:30. On Saturday 4/8, there is an additional tour at 16.30 on "Trieste: mosaic of cultures", that lasts 2 hours and costs euro 5/head. The office is open every day from 9.00 - 19.00. MUSEUM Revoltella

The Baron and the Archduke. Overseas dreams. Replicas in August: 10/8 & 11/8 at 19.30 e 21.00, 12/8 at 21.00; 17-18-19/8 at 19.30 & 21.00.

Following the big success of the previous show "A coffee with the Baron", this is a new story with new characters (Maximilian of Austria and Empress Sissi, coming back to Trieste from the Isle of Madera) in a new touring show through the rooms of this wonderful palace.

Visit the exhibit "Trieste-Suez. History and modernity in the Voyage en Egypte  of Pasquale Revoltella". In 1861 the City Council of Trieste resolved to send a delegation to inspect the works of the Suez Canal. Pasquale Revoltella joined the expedition. The text of the performance is taken from some travel notes written by Paolo Rumiz, renown triestine journalist and writer, as he walked in September 2011 from Trieste to Premantura (the southernmost point of the istrian peninsula). ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF TRIESTE

FLEA Market every Friday down in Sistiana Bay, in the Caravella Park from 18:00 - 23:00. You can get to Sistiana with the airport bus 51 or take bus 44 from Piazza Oberdan and walk down to the bay here there are several food and drink stalls, music and summer fun.

 

Visit Muggia's Medieval Castle

You can travel from the Molo Pescheria to Muggia by boat with the Delfino Verde (the Green Dolfin) or by bus (nr 21 from Trieste's train station) and visit the Istro-Venetian fishing village and its castle. The owner, Mr. Bossi, a renown sculptor, restored it in 1991.

Tours are made year-round upon request and for groups of at least 20 people. You can set up a personal tour by contacting Mrs. Bossi. The cost is Eur 5,00/each. Please phone: 040 272772.
