ART & CULTURAL EXHIBITIONS

This afternoon at 17:00 there will be a FREE GUIDED TOUR in ENGLISH of the Contemporary Art Exhibition "BIENNALE DIFFUSA":  by our colleague for scientists, visitors, staff, families and friends.  Our Info Point colleague has 3 seats available to accompany anyone by car (but return on your own). If interested please contact us as soon as possible as we will be departing at 16:45. Ticket to the exhibition is euro 6/pers. The tour will last around 1.5 - 2 hrs. There is a cafeteria on the second floor.

At 19:30,  Vittorio Sgarbi, curator of the Venice and Trieste Biennale will present his book "Le meraviglie di Roma. Dal Rinasciemento ai giorni nostri" (The wonders of Rome. From the Renaissance to our days). Entrance to the Biennale on this occasion will be reduced to euro 4/pers from 19:00.

This exhibition is an extension of the renown 54th International Venice Biennale event organized by famous art critic Vittorio Sgarbi and is held at "Magazzino 26" in the old port of Trieste. From ICTP, take bus nr 6 and stop in Viale Miramare at the bus stop right after the main entrance of the show, ask the driver in case. It takes a 5-minute walk to reach the building, Magazzino 26. Entrance tickets for ICTP scientists, visitors and staff - bring your ICTP badge along - euro 6. You can take bus 6 or 36 that will drop you on the main road (viale Miramare) and then proceed by foot


"Musei di Sera" (Museums at night) ongoing until 31 August in Trieste at Palazzo Gopcevich in via Rossini 4.
The Museum has a rich collection of music instruments and theatre costumes, paintings and works of art. On this occasion it will be open to the public at night on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 20:00 - 24:00 with a rich entertainment programme that includes films, music concerts and lectures.  Check: http://www.retecivica.trieste.it/triestecultura/new/museidisera2011/default.asp

Born in Berlin, she became immersed in the Nouveau Réaliste movement of the 1960s and documented the film stars and avant-garde artists who thrived in the French capital at that time. She displays photos of friends, artists in the Nouveau Réalisme movement in Paris – Marcel Duchamp, Jean Tinguely, Robert Filliou, Niki de Saint Phalle and her ex-husband Daniel Spoerri. Other huge photos-posters of her still life shots are present. The exhibition, organized by Triestèfotografia, is at the Piscina Bianchi (Main swimming pool), Passeggio S. Andrea, 8. CLASSICAL MUSIC

Classical Music Concert at the Miramare Castle on Friday 5 August: Piano Recital with music by Chopin and Beethoven with pianist Nicola Losito at 20:30: Entrance fee to concert and Castle euro 4. Places are limited to 80 and allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Next on 5 August:  Piano recital with music by Beethoven and Chopin.

 

SPECIAL GUIDED TOURS

"Trieste Mosaico di Culture" (Trieste, a mosaic of cultures) on Saturday 6 August at 16:30:  A 2-hr guided walking tour downtown to visit the main cultural and religious sites that represent the ethnic and religious minorities of Trieste.  The tour is in Italian and English and costs euro 5/pers. It is necessary to book your place by calling the FVG Tourist Office in via dell' Orologio 1 (corner of Piazza Unità): 040 3478312.

 

Free entrance on Sundays to the Victory Lighthouse (Faro della Vittoria) from 10:00 - 15:00. The lighthouse was built by the famous Triestine architect Berlam. It is a commemorative monument dedicated to the fallen of the First World War. It is located in Strada del Friuli. Bus 42, 44 or 46 from Piazza Oberdan. Great for photos if it's a nice day.


Book a special visit to the Revoltella Museum (in via Diaz 27)  "Un Caffè con il Barone Revoltella" (Coffee with Baron Revoltella) scheduled today or 5,6,7,11,12,13 and 14 August. It is a special guided tour (in Italian) of the Baron's private apartments with two actors taking you around and playing the part of Baron Revoltella (actor Lorenzo Acquaviva) and his friend (actor Ivan Zerbinati) recounting the Baron's life and in particular his adventures in Egypt as he was one of the main financial supporters of the construction of the Suez Canal and vice president of the company. You will be invited to drink a coffee and listen to the Baron's "life adventures and confessions". No more than 35 persons per show. Ticket euro 10/pers. Every Sunday at the Miramare Castle: Included in the entrance ticket, there are free guided tours (up to 25 pers/group) at 12:00 and at 17:00. There are also free guided tours of the park at 10:30 and 15:30. For regular visits, the castle is open every day from 9:00 to 19:00. FREE MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT

Tonight, "Trieste LovesJazz festival" In Piazza Hortis at 21:00: "Vibes with the Vibraphone" (ITA) and "Here Three is the Perfect Summer" (GER - ITA). On Fri 5 Aug "All the creativity of Jazz Laboratory" with the Tartini Conservatory followed by "The Birth of Jazz Bansuri" (FRA - CUBA). On Sat 6 Aug "Annie Acoustic Quintet" (ITA) and  " The Original Klezmer Ensemble meets Jazz" (ITA).

Jazz at the San Giusto Caslte on Sunday 7 August at 21:00: " "Steve Lukather, all is well that ends well tour" (USA). Free show.

 

"Summer Nights 2011" ("Calici di Stelle & Pupkin Kabaret") on Sunday 7 August at Parovel wine Cellars in Bagnoli della Rosandrat. The event is organized in collaboration with the INAF Astronomic Observatory of Trieste. Two astronomers, Massimo Ramella and Giulia Lafrate will explain how to "understand" the colours we see at night in space and other astronomical curiosities. There will also be an entertaining performance by Andro Merku', a brilliant comedian and showman. The show is free. "Sapori del Golfo" ongoing until 12 September: Stands and kiosks serve fresh fish from the Gulf of Trieste cooked in the typical Triestine way such as the fried "sardoni" (sardines)!
