TONIGHT: FOR ICTP SCIENTISTS, VISITORS AND STAFF, A SPECIAL AFRICAN NIGHT AT THE LEONARDO BUILDING CAFETERIA AND TERRACE STARTING AT 19:30. The dinner is payable with a full meal coupon or by cash euro 8/prs.
There will be live entertainment with African dance music by DJ Jeannot from Ivory Coast, the Mamaya Percussionists with live African rhythmic sounds and beats, The Lumiere Divine Choir from Cameroun and ICTP Research fellow Prosper!


CLASSICAL MUSIC

Classical Music Concerts at the Miramare Castle on Friday 29: Chopin Piano recital with pianist Dimitri Candoni at 20:30: Entrance fee to concert and Castle euro 4. Places are limited to 80 and allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Next on 5 August:  Piano recital with music by Beethoven and Chopin.

Trieste Operetta Festival: "Viva l'Italia"at the Verdi Theatre, an entertaining show commemorating the best music and songs of the Italian repertoire on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Italian Unity. ART & CULTURAL EXHIBITIONS

Contemporary Art Exhibition "BIENNALE DIFFUSA":  SAT. 30 July at 10:30 am  FREE GUIDED TOUR in ENGLISH and on SUNDAY 31 July at 10:30 am FREE GUIDED TOUR in ITALIAN  by Artist Qing Yue for scientists, visitors, staff, families and friends. Meet at the ticket counter at 10:30 a.m. The tour will last around 1.5 - 2  hrs. There is a cafeteria on the second floor.

This exhibition is an extension of the renown 54th International Venice Biennale event organized by famous art critic Vittorio Sgarbi and is held at "Magazzino 26" in the old port of Trieste. From ICTP, take bus nr 6 and stop in Viale Miramare at the bus stop right after the main entrance of the show, ask the driver in case. It takes a 5-minute walk to reach the building, Magazzino 26. Entrance tickets for ICTP scientists, visitors and staff - bring your ICTP badge along - euro 6. You can take bus 6 which will drop you on the main road (viale Miramare) and then proceed by foot ( 2 - 3 minutes walk).


 
Exhibition: "Art from Ecuador and Colombia"
with Mauricio Zequeda (winner of the 2007 Botero prize) and Martha Zamora from Colombia and Ana Cevallos and Roberto Yturralde from Ecuador. The exhibition is taking place at the Linea d'Arte Gallery in via Lazaretto Vecchio 19, until 6 August (Mon-Fri 17-19:30 and Sat 10:00 - 13:00).

Born in Berlin, she became immersed in the Nouveau Réaliste movement of the 1960s and documented the film stars and avant-garde artists who thrived in the French capital at that time. She displays photos of friends, artists in the Nouveau Réalisme movement in Paris – Marcel Duchamp, Jean Tinguely, Robert Filliou, Niki de Saint Phalle and her ex-husband Daniel Spoerri. Other huge photos-posters of her still life shots are present. The exhibition, organized by Triestèfotografia, is at the Piscina Bianchi (Main swimming pool), Passeggio S. Andrea, 8. SPECIAL GUIDED TOURS

Free entrance on Sundays to the Victory Lighthouse (Faro della Vittoria) from 10:00 - 15:00. The lighthouse was built by the famous Triestine architect Berlam. It is a commemorative monument dedicated to the fallen of the First World War. It is located in Strada del Friuli. Bus 42, 44 or 46 from Piazza Oberdan. Great for photos if it's a nice day.


Book in advance a special visit to the Revoltella Museum (in via Diaz 27)  "Un Caffè con il Barone Revoltella" (Coffee with Baron Revoltella) scheduled on 4,5,6,7,11,12,13 and 14 August. It is a special guided tour (in Italian) of the Baron's private apartments with two actors taking you around and playing the part of Baron Revoltella (actor Lorenzo Acquaviva) and his friend (actor Ivan Zerbinati) recounting the Baron's life and in particular his adventures in Egypt as he was one of the main financial supporters of the construction of the Suez Canal and vice president of the company. You will be invited to drink a coffee and listen to the Baron's "life adventures and confessions". No more than 35 persons per show. Ticket euro 10/pers. Every Sunday at the Miramare Castle: Included in the entrance ticket, there are free guided tours (up to 25 pers/group) at 12:00 and at 17:00. There are also free guided tours of the park at 10:30 and 15:30. For regular visits, the castle is open every day from 9:00 to 19:00. Trieste Summer Rock Festival " at the San Gisuto Castle 28 - 31 July at 21:00. Free entrance to all shows

Tonight from the UK "Caravan" (album "in the land of Grey and Pink").  Sat 30 July, an Italian rock band "Arti e Mestieri" and flute player Mel Collins (King Crimson) followed by the "Fantasmagoric" from Japan. Entertainment, music, lectures at the Civico Museo del Mare (The Sea Museum) in Campo Marzio 5. Every Thursday there will interesting talks in Italian by the title "Navigando con la Scienza" (Sailing with Science). Tonight, there will be a talk by Marco Costantini from the WWF Italy in collaboration with the Miramare Natural Reserve Park:  "Fishing with Darwin, fish, fishermen and evolution".  Free entrance to all shows. "Sapori del Golfo" ongoing until 12 September: Stands and kiosks serve fresh fish from the Gulf of Trieste cooked in the typical Triestine way such as the fried "sardoni" (sardines)! Music and entertainment as well. Forthcoming events next month: "Musei di Sera" (Museums at night) in Trieste with the opening of Palazzo Gopcevich, the Theatre Museum "Carlo Schmidl" in via Rossini 4 on Tuesdays and Wednesday nights from 20:00 - 24:00 in August with a rich entertainment programme, films, music concerts, lectures.  The programme will be available next week on line.
