ART & CULTURAL EXHIBITIONS

Contemporary Art Exhibition "BIENNALE DIFFUSA", an extension of the Venice Biennale organized/curated by famous art critic Vittorio Sgarbi, at "Magazzino 26" in Porto Vecchio. It is one of the largest hangars (warehouse) built in 1860 under the Austro-Hungarian Empire when Trieste was the main port of the Empire. It has been renovated completely to host this outstanding exhibit with works by Italian and international artists (about 170 artists). The exhibit is ongoing until 27 Nov, opening times Fri-Sat 10:00 - 23:00 / Sun-Thurs 10:00 - 21:00. Entrance ticket euro 8 and euro 6 for residents in Trieste.

"Senza Titolo", ("Titleless") by artist Tullio Sila at the Sala Comunale d'Arte - Piazza Unità 4. The artist's works are a personal interpretation of action painting where grey, black and red are the predominant colours and represent the artist's mental, physical and vital energy. The exhibition is ongoing until 17 Jul, 10:00 - 13:00/17:00 - 20:00.

"Bloomsday 2011" at the Joyce Museum in via Madonna del Mare 13, 2nd floor 1st section of Paolo Colombo's works "Dalla Torre di Stephen alla Stanza di Molly" ("From Stephen's tower to Molly's room") inspired by Joyce's Ulysses and at 2nd section of the artist's works at the Galleria MetroKubo in via dei Capitelli 6563 b. The exhibition is ongoing until 16 July.

Starting next week: Trieste Operetta Festival. "Eine Nacht in Venedig" ("A Night in Venice") by J. Strauss at the San Giusto Castle in the open air on 12, 14, 16 and 19 July at 21:15 (tickets from euro 10 to 25) and "La Chatte Métamorphosée en Femme" ("The metamorphosis of a cat") by Jacques Offenbach at the Verdi Theatre on 13, 15 and 17 July (tickets from euro 9 to 35). SPECIAL GUIDED TOURS

"Trieste Mosaico di Culture" ("Trieste, a mosaic of cultures") on Saturday 9 July at 16:30: A 2 - hours guided walking tour downtown to visit the main cultural and religious sites that represent the ethnic and religious minorities of Trieste. The tour is in Italian and English and costs euro 5/pers. It is necessary to book your place by calling the FVG Tourist Office in via dell' Orologio 1 (on the corner of Piazza Unità): 040 3478312.

Every Sunday at the Miramare Castle: Included in the entrance ticket, there are free guided tours (up to 25 pers/group) at 12:00 and at 17:00. The castle is open every day from 9:00 to 19:00). Entrance ticket: euro 6, there is a reduced entrance fee (4 euro) for EU citizens aged 18 - 25 or seniors in general (+ 65). There are also free guided tours of the park as well at 10:30 and 15:30.

FREE ENTERTAINMENT

"Muggia sotto le Stelle" ("Muggia under the Stars) from 8 July - 21 August. All shows are free and start at 21:00 and take place in Piazza Marconi. On Fri 8 July, summer carnival and magic show, on Sat 9 July, a play in Italian "Cartolina in Fa Maggiore" (A postcard in Fa maggiore). Every Friday night during the summer, music and dance at the San Giusto Castle open air terrace "Bottega del Vino" with Papastuff dj starting at 23:00. Entrance ticket includes one drink. MISCELLANEOUS

"La Notte die Saldi" ("Special Shopping Night") in Trieste on Saturday 8 July! Shops will go on sale and will remaIn open until 22:30. There will also be music and entertainment in the Cavana district (close to Piazza Unità) with Tango dance, in Piazza della Borsa: Dance Music from the 1980s with "Overfunk", "Karaoke" in Piazza della Repubblica and Latin and Caribbean Dance with "Viviana Dance School " in via delle Torri. The following roads in the city will be closed to traffic from 20:30: via Roma, Mazzini, Imbriani and Corso Italia.

"Sapori del Golfo" ongoing until 12 September: Fish from the Gulf of Trieste, stands and kiosks cook fresh fish from the Gulf of Trieste, especially fried sardines (sardoni in Italian) a Triestine specialty. Music and entertainment as well. Scalo Legnami - ExGaslini (close to the Torri D'Europa Shopping Mall - take bus 8) open on Saturdays 18:00 - 23:00 and Sundays 12:00 - 14:30 / 18:00 - 23:00.
