INTERESTING TALK THIS AFTERNOON

 

ICTP Prof Filippo Giorgi will give a talk in Italian this afternoon at 17:30 at the Circolo Canottieri Adria, Pontile Istria – società nautiche (Rive, bus 8). "Chiare fresche e scarse acque: cambiamenti climatici e ciclo idrologico mediterraneo" ("Clear, fresh and scarce waters, climate changes and hydrologic Mediterranean cycle"). Prof Giorgi is head of the Earth System Physics section and one of the vice-chairs of the IPCC Working Group. The Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 was split equally between the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Al Gore, Jr. "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change.

 

OPERA MUSIC

SPECIAL GUIDED TOURS

"Trieste Mosaico di Culture" ("Trieste, a mosaic of cultures") on Saturday 11 June at 16:30:  A 2 - hours guided walking tour downtown to visit the main cultural and religious sites that represent the ethnic and religious minorities of Trieste. The tour is in Italian and English and costs euro 5/pers. It is necessary to book your place by calling the Tourist Office in Piazza Unità (via dell'Orologio 1) where the tour starts. "Trieste Liberty" is a guided walking tour in Italian on Saturday 11 June at 17:00.  You will visit all the beautiful buildings in Liberty style in the city centre. You must book by sending a fax to this number: 040 6754727. The tour will start at the Salone degli Incanti (ex Pescheria) on the Rive (bus 8) and costs 3 euro/pers and includes a visit to the exhibition "Costruire e abitare l'alba del '900", ("Trieste Liberty, urban architecture 1900 - 1914") at the Salone degli Incanti - ex Pescheria in Riva Sauro 1. This is an exhibition on architectural projects and designs during the Liberty period in Trieste highlighting the works of famous local and national architects such as Max Fabiani, Josip Costaperaria, Giuseppe Sommaruga, Giorgio Zaninovich, Romeo Depaoli, Giacomo Zammatio and others. A guided walking tour only in German:  " On the poet's footsteps" on Sunday 12 June (9:00 - 12:00):  a 3 hours walk on the Rilke Path from Sistiana to Duino. The poet is Rainer Maria Rilke who spent some time at the Duino Castle where he composed his famous poems "Elegy on the Adriatic". Meeting place at the Sisitiana IAT (Info Point). ART & CULTURAL EXHIBITIONS

Photography exhibition: "Realtà ed Immagini Percorse" at the Biblioteca Statale in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII: Five professional Italian photographers from different artistic backgrounds (Enzo Cumbo, Jean Mill, Paolo Rinaldi Reynolds, Bruno Solini and Giorgio Valentinuzzi) express through their personal shots the close bonds that exist between art and photography. The exhibition is open from 8:30 - 18:30, and Saturday 8:30 - 13:30, ongoing until 26 June.

 

"Dalla grande emigrazione alla mobilità professionale" ("From bulk emigration to professional mobility") at Palazzo Costanzi in Piazza Piccola 2 (close to Piazza Unità): a well documented exhibition thanks to the chronicles of the local "Il Piccolo" newspaper, illustrating the migration phenomenon over the last 130 years of Italians liviing in the region and in particular during the 1918 - 1947 and 1954 periods and the professional success so many of them obtained abroad. The exhibition is ongoing until 14 June everyday from 10:00 - 13:00 / 17:00 - 20:00.

 

"150 anni d'arte da Fattori a Fontana". On the occasion of the celebrations of the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy, 120 works of famous Italian artists form the 19th and 20th centuries are exhibited at the "Scuderie di Miramare" (ex-horse stables of the Miramare Castle - before the Main Entrance on the right). ENTERTAINMENT

A play in Italian at the Miela Theatre: "La Coscienza di Zeno" (Zeno's conscience) by Italo Svevo on Saturday 11 June at 20:30. The play is performed by an amatorial theatre group "Teatrolingua" with 14 actors of 11 different nationalities. Free entrance. Live Music in Muggia this weekend at the "Stadio Comunale Paolo Zaccaria" (Stadium) in via dei Mulini 15: Friday 10 June, Binho Carvalaho meets Berimbau" (live Samba music) Sat 11 June, "Wonderwall" (cover Oasis) and Sunday 12 June "Jack Rabbit dj Set". The Grignano Beach Clubs "Riviera" (beneath the Hotel Riviera in Strada Costiera 20) and "Sirena" In Riva Massimiliano e Carlotta 2 - close to the Adriatico Guesthouse) offer a 0,50 discount on the entrance ticket upon presentation of your ICTP badge valid only from Monday to Friday.

 

Sunday 12 June: special events at the Trieste Botanic Gardens in via Marchesetti 2: There will be a flower and plant market all day until sunset. Special guided tour at 10:00 on sage plants and hortensias and at 18:30 there will be a jazz concert in the open air with "Alfa Omega" with Daniela Raimondi (trumpet) and Emanuele Gratti (guitar).

 

Flea Market on Sunday 12 June in Muggia taking place in Piazza della Repubblica all day until sunset. Take bus 20 or the Delfino Verde ferry boat.

 

Sistiana Bay Flea Market every Friday from 18:00 - 23:00 ongoing until September. You may reach Sisitiana by Airport Bus Apt 51 and walk down to the seaside.

 

IN VENICE

Venice Biennial - Biennale di Venezia, the 54th International Art Exhibition at the Giardini and Arsenale and other spots in Venice. NEW BOAT LINES SUMMER SERVICE

We wish to inform you that the Summer Boat Service, "Delfino Verde", connecting Trieste to Sistiana via Barcola and Grignano will run daily (Monday to Sunday) from 12 June until 13 September.
