TODAY: ICTP CINEFORUM "TSOTSI” at 18:30 "
at the Leonardo Building in the Main Lecture Hall: A gritty and moving portrait of angry youth in a world of urban deprivation, marked by pumping  "Kwaito music" - the modern beat of the ghetto. Director: Gavin Hood UK, South Africa, 2005 (94 min) Zulu, Xhosa, Afrikaans and English with English subtitles.


CLASSICAL MUSIC

Today, free concert: "Note di amicizia per fisarmonica" ("friendship notes for accordion") at the Sala Beethoven in via del Coroneo 15, today at 18:00 with the students of the Lubiana Music Academy. The concert is organized by the Associazione Culturale Schiller.

Tartini Music Conservatory: " Wind and Brass Ensemble" on Monday 30 May. The concert is free and open to all prior to booking.
The Conservatory is situated in via Ghega 12, close to the Central Train Station. GUIDED TOURS

"Trieste Mosaico di Culture" ("Trieste, a mosaic of cultures") on Saturday 28 May at 16:30:  A 2- hours guided walking tour downtown to visit main cultural sites that represent the ethnic and religious minorities of Trieste. The tour is in Italian and English and costs euro 5/pers is organized by the Tourist Office in Piazza Unità (via dell'orologio 1). It is necessary to book your place by calling: 040 3478312.

 

The Parovel wine cellars in Bagnoli della Rosandra  (buses 40 and 41) will be open on Sunday 29 May from 10:00 - 18:00 on the occasion of the "Cantine Aperte" event, with regular guided tours at 10:30, 13:00, 15:00 and 16:30 (accompanied by music and entertainment with a cartoonist). If you wish to taste their homemade platter "Merenda Carsolina" (different kinds of hams and cheeses) it is necessary to book your snack in advance by calling: 346 7590953. Free excursions to Monte Hermada on Sunday 29 May organized by the Cultural Association "F. Zenobi" with expert guides on the history of world war 1 in the region. There are a number of walks to choose, each lasting 3 or 4 hours and starting at 9:00 or 10:00 or 15:00. You will be able to see trenches, military posts, caves and memorial stones during the walk and learn about the events, battles, the human experience of soldiers and ordinary people during those times. The meeting point is in Ceroglie, in the Carso, at the Casa Klaceva. After the excursions, those who are interested can stop in Ceroglie and taste typical dishes at the agriturismo Fabec close by. "Cavour and Trieste” guided tour in Italian on Sat 28 May at 15:00 and Sunday 29 May at 11:00 (euro 3,50) at the San Giusto Castle. The exhibition highlights the special relationship Cavour had with the city of Trieste, his stay in 1836, and the political and economic importance of the city used as a model for Europe's modernization in the 19th century. "Trieste Liberty" on Sunday 29 May at 11:00 (euro 3) "Costruire e abitare l'alba del '900", (Trieste Liberty, urban architecture 1900 - 1914) at the Salone degli Incanti - ex Pescheria in Riva Sauro 1. Bus 8.This is an exhibition on architectural projects and designs during the Liberty period in Trieste highlighting the works of famous local and national architects such as Max Fabiani, Josip Costaperaria, Giuseppe Sommaruga, Giorgio Zaninovich, Romeo Depaoli, Giacomo Zammatio and others. ART & CULTURAL EXHIBITIONS

Today, Inauguration of photo exhibition: "Realtà ed Immagini Percorse" at the Biblioteca Statale in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII at 17:00:  with five professional Italian photographers from different artistic backgrounds (Enzo Cumbo, Jean Mill, Paolo Rinaldi Reynolds, Bruno Solini and Giorgio Valentinuzzi) expressing through their personal shots the close bonds that exist between art and photography. The exhibition is open from 8:30 - 18:30, and Saturday 8:30 - 13:30, ongoing until 26 June.

 

"Dalla grande emigrazione alla mobilità  professionale" ("From bulk emigration to professional mobility")  at Palazzo Costanzi in Piazza Piccola 2 (close to Piazza Unità): a well documented exhibition thanks to the chronicles of the local "Il Piccolo" newspaper, illustrating  the migration phenomenon over the last 130 years of Italians liviing in the region and in particular during the 1918 - 1947 and 1954 periods and the professional success so many of them obtained abroad. The exhibition is ongoing until 14 June everyday from 10:00 - 13:00 / 17:00 - 20:00.

 

Solo exhibition: "Architettando il mare" ("Sea architecture") by Cosimo Fusco, at the Sala Comunale d'Arte, Piazza Unità 4, ongoing until 4 June every day from 10:00 - 13:00 / 17:00 - 20:00.

 

"150 anni d'arte da Fattori a Fontana". On the occasion of the celebrations of the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy, 120 works of famous Italian artists form the 19th and 20th centuries are exhibited at the "Scuderie di Miramare" (ex-horse stables of the Miramare Castle - before the Main Entrance on the right).
