SPECIAL SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE MIRAMARE CASTLE:
On the occasion of the "European Night for Museums" the Miramare Castle will be open at night on Saturday 14 May from 20:00 until Friday 15 May at 02:00, with free guided tours from 20:00 - 23:00 (for a group of 25 each tour). On this occasion, there will also be a free concert held in the Throne Room with the Lions Singer Choir at 21:15 (for max 80 seats) with music ranging form Mozart to most recent pop music. On the same evening there will be a wine tasting session offered by the "Azienda Agricola I Feudi di Romans di San Canzian d'Isonzo" and typical regional products and specialties.


CLASSICAL MUSIC

Renaissance Music Concert "La via delle Stelle" at the San Giovanni Theatre in via San Cillino 99/1 (bus 6 and 9) on Sat 15 May at 18:30 (and Sun 22 May at 20:00 and Sun 22 May at 18:30. Music performed by the Gruppo Strumenti Ars Nova, directed by Teodora Tommasi with music by Campere, dez Prez, Banchieri, Belhauer, Gabrielli, Vecchi, Gastaldi, and Anonimo. Entrance ticket euro 8.


Tartini Music Conservatory: "Wednesday Night Concerts" are free and open to all prior to booking. Forthcoming concert
on 18 May: "Varieties of lute lessons" with music by Anonimo, Dowland, Vallet, and Piccinini. Next concert on 25 May, A Duo violoncello and piano concert with music by Lekeu, Faure, Margola and Casella.  The Conservatory is situated in via Ghega 12, close to the Central Train Station. GUIDED TOURS

"From the Cernizza woods in Duino to the Villaggio del Pescatore", a long but easy walk through the Cernizza forest in Duino with a specialist guide. Meeting point in front of the Duino Castle on Sunday 15 May at 10:00 and return at 13:00 (with a half-hour introduction at the beginning).  "Cavour and Trieste” guided tour in Italian on Sat 14 May at 15:00 and Sunday 15 May at 11:00 (euro 3,50). Next guided tours on 21, 22, 28, 29 May. The exhibition highlights the special relationship Cavour had with the city of Trieste, his stay in 1836, and the political and economic importance of the city used as a model for Europe's modernization in the 19th century. "Trieste Liberty" on Sunday 15 May at 11:00 (euro 3), next on 22 and 29 May. "Costruire e abitare l'alba del '900", (Trieste Liberty, urban architecture 1900 - 1914) at the Salone degli Incanti - ex Pescheria in Riva Sauro 1. Bus 8.This is an exhibition on architectural projects and designs during the Liberty period in Trieste highlighting the works of famous local and national architects such as Max Fabiani, Josip Costaperaria, Giuseppe Sommaruga, Giorgio Zaninovich, Romeo Depaoli, Giacomo Zammatio and others. Sightseeing Tour by bus, every day from 10:00 - 17:30 with departures every 56 minutes from Grignano or the Stazione Marittima (close to Piazza Unità). You can hop on or off at any of the stops on the way. The itinerary is as follows: Stazione Marittima, Corso Italia, San Giusto, Campo Marzio, Riva Nazario Sauro, via Filzi, Piazza Oberdan, Train Station, Barcola, Grignano, Miramare and return. On board, there is a multi-lingual commentary (Italian, English, French, German, Spanish, Russian and Slovene). Tickets are purchased directly on the bus and are valid 24 hrs. ART EXHIBITIONS

Inauguration of a new exhibition: "Architettando il mare" (sea architecture) by Cosimo Fusco, at the Sala Comunale d'Arte, Piazza Unità 4 on Friday 13 May at 18:30.The exhibition is ongoing until 4 June every day from 10:00 - 13:00 / 17:00 - 20:00.

"150 anni d'arte da Fattori a Fontana". On the occasion of the celebrations of the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy, 120 works of famous Italian artists form the 19th and 20th centuries are exhibited at the "Scuderie di Miramare" (ex-horse stables of the Miramare Castle - before the Main Entrance on the right). ENTERTAINMENT

"Erik Satie" festival  "Mielaviglie - Meraviglie" organized by the Miela Theatre ongoing until 18 May with a series of art exhibitions, films, music concerts, and entertainment. Tonight and on Friday 13 May, at the Stazione Rogers (end of the Rive) there will be a "Pre - Satie" show with film projections and electronic music from 19:00. On Saturday 14 May, starting at 20:00, the Miela Theatre (piazza Duca degli Abruzzi) has organized an art Kermesse to celebrate Satie followed by a the projection of the "Monty Python's Flying Circus" British television show in English with Italian subtitles. MISCELLANEOUS

Charles Fishman, will give a talk on water resources and exploitation on Thursday 12 May at 18:00 at the auditorium of the Casa della Musica in via dei Capitelli (Cavana). Book presentation in Italian on Friday 13 May at 18:30: "an evening dedicted to thrillers", Veit Heinicken (his latest thriller book "Trame Gilalle, Disegni Politici”) introduces Massimo Carlotto's book "Alla fine di un giorno noioso" and Bruno Morchio's "Colpi di Coda" at the Teatro in via del Colleggio, close to the Santa Maria Maggiore church (opposite the Questura). A wine aperitif will be offered from the Kante, Lupinc, Skerk and Zidarich cellars followed a film projection "Arrivederci Amore Ciao" inspired by Carlotto's book.

 

OUTSIDE TRIESTE

"Sapori Pro Loco" has organized the event "the art of food tasting in Friuli Venezia Giulia", at Villa Manin di Passariano, Codroipo in the Province of Udine on 14 - 15 May and 21 - 22 May.

A rich showcase of food and wine products from the region, with music, theatre, sports and folklore in the charming setting of the summer residence of the last Doge of Venice. As a promotion, local food products will be sold for euro 1 - 2 or 3. Check: www.prolocoregionefvg.org

Visit Villa Manin di Passariano: One of the most beautiful Venitian Villas of the Region. and Napoleon's residence during the French occupation. Since 2004 the Villa has been home to the Centre of Contemporary Art and hosts International art exhibitions.
