On the occasion of the "Week for Culture" in Italy (ongoing until 17 April) Entrance to the Miramare Castle and its buildings will be free during this period! Opening hours 9:00 - 19:00

Entrance to public museums, monuments, archaeological sites, public libraries and State archives will be free in Trieste and all over Italy.

CLASSICAL MUSIC

Miramare Castle Concerts every Sunday in the Throne Room at 17:00 ongoing until 15 May. This Sunday 17 April: A piano concert with Luciano Lanfranchi, Waltz music by Chopin. The concert is organized by the Associazione Arte & Musica. No booking is required but you must be there well in advance in order to find a seat! FREE!


Tartini Music Conservatory "Wednesday Night Concerts", free and open to all, prior booking required. Forthcoming concert 20 April: Duo piano recital by Lucia Zarcone and Gabriele Mastrogiovanni, music by Liszt.
Next on Wednesday 27 April: Marimba and Vibraphone Recital. The Conservatory is situated in via Ghega 12, close to the Central Train Station. You must book your place by calling the Conservatory the day before each concert preferably on Tuesday morning (tel: 040 6724911). Please be there 15 minutes before the show. GUIDED TOURS on the occasion of the "Week for Culture"

Miramare Castle: There will be free guided tours to the exhibition "Il sogno di Massimiliano e Carlotta. Miramare 1860" on Sat 16 April at 16:30 and 17:30.


Guided Tours "Cavour & Trieste" at the San Giusto Castle on Sat 16 April at 15:00 and Sun 17 at 11:00, next on Sat 23 April at 15:00. Reduced entrance ticket 3,50. Call for booking: 040 6754480.
The exhibition highlights the special relationship Cavour had with the city of Trieste, his stay in 1836, and the political and economic importance of the city used as a model for Europe's modernization in the 19th century. The Castle is located in Piazza della Cattedrale 3, bus 24 from Train Station. Regular entrance ticket euro 5, ongoing until June (opening times 9:00 - 17:00). Check http://www.triestecultura.it

Free guided Tour of the Roman Theatre on Sunday 17 April from 11:00 - 13:00 and 16:00 - 18:00. Meeting point directly at the Roman Theatre opposite the Questura.

 

ART EXHIBITIONS

Inauguration of a new exhibition at the Scuderie del Castello di Miramare on Sat 16 April at 17:00 "150 anni d'arte da Fattori a Fontana". On the occasion of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy, 120 works of famous Italian artists form the 19th and 20th centuries will be exhibited.

 

Free entrance to the Revoltella Museum this weekend!

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy, visit the exhibition at the Revoltella Museum: "Arte e Nazione. Dagli Induno a Fattori" (Art and Nation. From the Indunos to Fattori). A collection of works, prints and precious books covering the social, cultural life and history of the struggle for the unification of Italy comes from the Museum's own collection and will be exhibited in the historical apartments of Baron

Revoltella. It is interesting to note that Trieste was part of the Austrian Empire and that the Baron had actively sided with the Austrians in 1859 because of his numerous financial and commercial connections with the Austrian Empire. The museum is located in via Diaz 27 (take bus 8).  You may also visit its Modern Art Gallery. There is a free guided tour every Sunday at 11:00. Visiting time: 10:00 - 18:00 (closed on Tuesdays).

 

 "Architettura contemporanea in Finlandia" (Contemporary architecture in Finland): Architectural projects and design installations of Artek, Martele, Marimekko and Iittala. Ongoing until 8 May at the Revoltella Museum.

 

 "Trieste Liberty. Costruire e abitare l'alba del '900", (Trieste Liberty, urban architecture 1900 - 1914) at the Salone degli Incanti - ex Pescheria in Riva Sauro 1. Bus 8.This is an exhibition with beautiful shots of Trieste's buildings, architectural projects and designs during the Liberty period here, highlighting the works of famous local and national architects such as Max Fabiani, Josip Costaperaria, Giuseppe Sommaruga, Giorgio Zaninovich, Romeo Depaoli, Giacomo Zammatio and others. Entrance ticket euro 3 (free for children and teens up to 14). The exhibition is open Mon - Sun 10:00 - 20:00 until 19 June.

Miela Theatre:

- "First Italian Dance Festival" 14 - 17 April with performances at 21:00 http://www.miela.it

- "Festival dell'(In)utilita' Part Three, on Sunday 17 April at 17:00 at the Trieste Circolo Culturale Etnoblog in via Madonna del Mare 3. Rossetti Café entertainment

"PerBacco Nait" every Thursday (comedy and music show in Italian) Andro Merku' presents and entertains his audience with different guests. Tonight at 22:00, Comedian and showman Riki Malva and Maxino, next comedy performance on 21 April with Marcello Crea and 28 April Flavio Furian.

For Children:

Art workshops for children at the Revoltella Museum (in via Diaz) on Sunday 17 April on "self-portraits" at 11:00 for children aged 7 - 10; at 16:00 for children aged 4 - 6).

The Sartorio Museum organizes every Sunday (from 10 April until 5 June) art workshops, games, and music appreciation for children aged 7 - 11. Info and booking at the Segreteria della Casa della Musica tel. 040 307309 - Mon-Fri 15-19/ Mon-Tues-Fri also 10-12.

You may also visit this an ancient 18th century villa and its beautiful rooms with its antique furniture and learn about the history of Trieste through the lives of the Sartorio family members. The museum has a number of important art collections such as the famous Venetian artist Tiepolo (1696-1770) and more recently, those of Fittke. For more info call 040 301479. MISCELLANEOUS

"Trieste in Bicicletta” is a cycling tour through the city, with a 20 km itinerary (from Piazza Unita' to Miramare - Bivio and return), open to all on Sunday 17 April.  Registration and payment of a euro 6 fee (inclusive of a T-shirt) at the Cottur office in via Crispi 9 on Saturday 16 April and on Sunday 17 before the tour begins at the Sala Matrimoni of the Comune in Piazza Unita' from 8:30 - 9:15. On the occasion of the "Week for Culture", there will be a series of talks in Italian held by experts at the Centro Accoglienza Visitatori close to the Main entrance of the giant cave Borgo Grotta Gigante 42/a in Sgonico. Bus 42.

- On Thursday 14 April at 17:00: "The Japanese earthquake and the oscillations of the pendulum in the Grotta" by prof. Carla Braitenberg of the Geoscience department of the University of Trieste.

- Fri 15 April at 17:00 ': "How a laser scanner reveals the "secrets of the Grotta”, by dr. Paolo Paganini

- Sat 16 April "The geological evolution of the Carso and the importance of the Grotta Gigante's history" by Fabio Forti from the Grotta Commission of the Societa' Alpina delle Giulie.

 

"Horti Tergestini 2011 - VIth edition. Flower and Garden show at the San Giovanni Park on Sat 16 and Sun 17 April with visits, lectures and workshops open to all.  Visit the rose garden with more than 5000 roses! Motor Show in Sistiana Bay on Sat 16 and Sun 17 April all day from 10:00 - 20:00 with exhibition of stuntmen, supermotard races, minimotos, historic cars....You may reach Sistiana with Airport Bus 51 and walk down to the Bay.

 

Free documentary film in English "Easter - Taste of Freedom" (how Americans celebrate Easter and their traditions) on Friday 15 April at 18:00, at the Associazione Italo-americana in via Roma 15.

 
OUTSIDE TRIESTE

The Strassoldo Castles are open to the public on Sat 16 and Sun 17 April. There will be guided tours, classical music concerts, conferences, kiosks with food specialties, wine and many other collateral events. Entrance fee euro 10/pers.
