CLASSICAL MUSIC

Concerts at the Miramare Castle every Sunday at 17:00 until 15 May. This Sunday 3 April at 17:00, in the Throne Room: "Opera Operetta and Classical Napolitano songs", organized by the Associazione Arte & Musica. Ticket entrance to Castle and concert euro 6/pers. No booking is required but you must be there well in advance in order to find a seat!

 

International Piano Festival on Sat 2 April at 21:00 at the Miela Theatre. A duo piano recital with Riccardo Radico and Chiara Della Porta. Ticket euro 5 directly at the theatre's box office tel: 040 365119. http://www.miela.it


"Sunday Concert In Duino" on Sunday 3 April at 11:00, "Duo Badrakh - Davaakhum”, a piano and violoncello concert with music by Brahms and Schumann. The concert is
organized by the Scuola Superiore Internazionale di Musica da Camera Trio di Trieste and the UWC. The concert is held at the Auditorium of the United World College in Duino.  Following the concert an aperitif will be served. Take airport 51 bus. Info: 040 3739282


Tartini Music Conservatory "Wednesday Night Concerts", free and open to all prior to booking. Forthcoming concert on Wednesday 6 April
: "New Technology evening" with Michelangelo Lupone who composes instrumental and electro acoustic works and has received international recognition for his music. The Conservatory is situated in via Ghega 12, close to the Central Train Station. You must book your place by calling the Conservatory the day before each concert preferably on Tuesday morning (tel: 040 6724911). Please be there 15 minutes before the show. BALLET

"La Bayadère", last performance tonight, at the Trieste Verdi Theatre with the national Lithuanian Ballet of the Vilnius Opera. Music by Leon Aloysius. There is a 50% reduction on tickets purchased "last minute" (one hour before the show) for all performances (except for the first performance) directly at the Verdi's ticket office. ART EXHIBITIONS

 

Today at 17:00, inauguration of  "Juliet 30 Years", celebrating the 30th anniversary of Juliet Art Magazine, at the Biblioteca Statale in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII, nr 6. The exhibition is open Mon - Thurs 9:00 - 18:30 and Fri- Sat 9:00 - 13:00, closed on Sunday. Ongoing until 17 April

 

New exhibition at the Revoltella Museum: "Architettura contemporanea in Finlandia" (contemporary architecture in Finland): Architectural projects and design installations of Artek, Martele, Marimekko and Iittala. Ongoing until 8 May.

 

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy, visit the exhibition at the Revoltella Museum: "Arte e Nazione. Dagli Induno a Fattori" (Art and Nation. From the Indunos to Fattori). The collection of works, prints and precious books covering the social, cultural life and history of the struggle for the unification of Italy comes from the Museum's own collection and will be exhibited in the historical apartments of Baron

Revoltella. It is interesting to note that Trieste was part of the Austrian Empire and that the Baron had actively sided with the Austrians in the 1859 because of his numerous financial and commercial connections with the Austrian Empire. The museum is located in via Diaz 27 (take bus 8). Entrance ticket 6,50. You may also visit the Modern Art Gallery. There is a free-guided tour every Sunday at 11:00. Visiting time: 10:00 - 18:00 (closed on Tuesdays).

 

 "Trieste Liberty. Costruire e abitare l'alba del '900", (Trieste Liberty, urban architecture 1900 - 1914) at the Salone degli Incanti - ex Pescheria in Riva Sauro 1. Bus 8.This is an exhibition with beautiful shots of Trieste's buildings, architectural projects and designs during the Liberty period here, highlighting the works of famous local and national architects such as Max Fabiani, Josip Costaperaria, Giuseppe Sommaruga, Giorgio Zaninovich, Romeo Depaoli, Giacomo Zammatio and others. Entrance ticket euro 3 (free for children and teens up to 14). The exhibition is open Mon - Sun 10:00 - 20:00 until 19 June.

Solo exhibition "Colore e Luce" (colour and light), by Nora Carella who presents a number o beautiful water colours inspired by the Venetian lagoons and the city of Venice. Venue: Sala Umberto Veruda at Palazzo Costanzi, Piazza Piccola 2 (close to Piazza Unità). Timing: 10:00 - 13:00/17:00 - 20:00, ongoing until 17 April.

 

GUIDED TOUR

Once a year: Special opening of private historical castles thanks to the Consortio Castelli, a number of private historical castles are open to the public in the region on Sat 2 and Sun 3 April. In Trieste, on this occasion, you can visit the Castle of Muggia which will be open on Saturday afternoon 14:30 - 18:30 and Sunday all day 10:00 - 18:30.  You may also visit the permanent art exhibition of the sculptor Villi-Bossi who is also the owner of the castle. The event is organized by the Consortium for the protection of historical castles of the Friuli Venezia Giulia. Entrance ticket euro 6/pers. Free Film-Documentary "Garbage, the Revolution starts at home" (a Canadian production) by Andrew Nisker, on Friday 1 April at 20:30 at the Casa della Musica in via dei Capitelli 3. The film is presented by ARPA FVG, the Laboratorio Regionale di Educazione ambientale and La Cappella Underground. The story is what happens to a family in Toronto that keeps its garbage for 3 months in its garage and the stocks of waste that piles up!  The film is part of a going-green campaign for the safeguard of our environment that should start right in our homes!
