CLASSICAL MUSIC

Opera at the Verdi Theatre: “Samson et Dalila”, from Saturday 19 until Thursday 24 Feb. Music by Camille Saint Saens. The Opera is in French with Italian subtitles and is directed by Boris Brott. There is a 50% discount for the Saturday performance: last minute tickets can be purchased one hour before the show from 17:00 to 18:00 directly at the Verdi’s box office. Revoltella Museum Sunday Matinee Concert on 20 Feb at 11:00. A violin and piano duo with Michele Lot and Graziarita Dal Cin, music by Brahms, Paart and Stravinsky. Drinks will be served at the end of the concert. On the same day there are free guided tours of the Museum at 10:00 and 12:00 as well as art workshops for children (from 10:00 – 13:00 for those aged 7 to 10, and in the afternoon from 16:00 – 18:00 age 4 – 6). ART EXHIBITIONS IN TRIESTE

 “Il Giorno del Ricordo”(Remembrance Day), ongoing until 12 March, commemorates the exodus of hundreds of thousands of Italians from Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia after the Second World War at the Civico Museo della Civiltà Istriana, Fiumana e Dalmata in via Torino 8. The museum has an interesting collection of paintings, photos, crafts, costumes all related to the culture of Italians who lived in those territories that are now part of Slovenia and Croatia. Opening times: Mon- Sat 10-12:30/16:00-18:00 and Sun 10:00 – 13:00.

"Dalla Metafisica all'Arte" (from Metaphysics to Art). Ongoing exhibition by Giorgio De Chirico until 27 February at the "Scuderie del Castello di Miramare" (Miramare Castle "horse stables" - converted in an exhibition hall - before the main entrance of the Castle on viale Miramare). The exhibition presents 90 works tracing the artist's creativity. There is also a solo exhibition by the artist Fabio Mauri "Un Sognatore della Ragione" (a dreamer of the reason) with 5 installations and 1950 paintings. At the Miramare Castle, there is another exhibition by contemporary artists inspired by De Chirico's works: "Gli Specchi dell'Anima. Artisti intorno a De Chirico" (the Mirrors of the Soul, Artists close to De Chirico), to name a few: Adami, Ceroli, Chia, De Dominicis, Natham, Schifano. The exhibition is open every day from 9:00 - 19:00. Entrance ticket euro 8. Ongoing until 27 February 2011.

Cavour & Trieste at the San Giusto Castle ongoing until June 2011 (Piazza della Cattedrale 3, bus 24 from Train Station). The exhibition highlights the special relationship Cavour had with the city of Trieste, his stay in 1836, and the political and economic importance of the city used as a model for Europe's modernization in the 19th century.  Entrance ticket euro 5 (opening times 9:00 - 17:00). FREE FILMS

At the associazione italo-americana in via Roma 15, a documentary in English on Friday 18 Feb at 18:00: “Niagara” (on the Niagara falls). Free entrance.

MISCELLANEOUS

Live jazz at the Cafè Rossetti on Friday 18 Feb at 22:30 with Mauro Ottolin and his band. The Cafè Rossetti is located in Largo Giorgio Gaber, same building as the Rossetti Theatre (viale XX Settembre).

Techno and house music at the Stazione Marittima, Molo Bersaglieri, Sala Illiria on Sat 19 Feb, starting at 22:00. For those who would like to have more fun and have their faces painted, there will be a body painter inspired by Le Cirque du Soleil acrobats, clowns or wild animals

OUTSIDE TRIESTE

"Munch e Lo Spirito del Nord", Villa Manin in Passariano di Codroipo in the province of Udine. For the first time in Italy, “Munch and the Spirit of the North. Scandinavia in the Second Half of the Nineteenth Century” aims to piece together a story that identifies the spirit of the North in painting in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The exhibition, composed of approximately 120 paintings on loan from Scandinavian museums in particular, but also from several other European and American museums, focuses chiefly on landscapes, although it also features a good number of portraits and figural works. Ongoing until 6 March 2011. Opening times: everyday 9:00 - 19:00 (until 1 Nov) and from 2 Nov Mon - Thurs 9:18:00 and Fri, Sat and Sun 9:00 - 19:00.
