ART EXHIBITIONS IN TRIESTE

This afternoon, at 17:00, inauguration of the exhibition “Il Giorno del Ricordo”, (Remembrance Day), commemorating the exodus of hundreds of thousands of Italians from Istria, Fiume (now the city of Pola), and Dalmatia after the second World War at the Civico Museo della Civiltà Istriana, Fiumana e Dalmata in via Torino 8. The museum has an interesting collection of paintings, photos, crafts, costumes all related to the culture of Italians who lived in those territories that are now part of Slovenia and Croatia. Opening times: Mon- Sat 10-12:30/16:00-18:00 and Sun 10:00 – 13:00.

Solo show by artist Loredana Riavini at the Sala Comunale d'arte in Piazza Unita', 4.  Ongoing until 18 Feb, timing 10-13 and 17-20.

'Living your dream" (Abitare il sogno), solo show by artist Tullio Fantuzzi at Art Gallery Rettori Tribbio in Piazza Vecchia, 6. tel 040370365. Ongoing until 11 Feb. 2011.

"Dalla Metafisica all'Arte" (from Metaphysics to Art). Ongoing exhibition by Giorgio De Chirico until 27 February at the "Scuderie del Castello di Miramare" (Miramare Castle "horse stables" - converted in an exhibition hall - before the main entrance of the Castle on viale Miramare). The exhibition presents 90 works tracing the artist's creativity. There is also a solo exhibition by the artist Fabio Mauri "Un Sognatore della Ragione" (a dreamer of the reason) with 5 installations and 1950 paintings. At the Miramare Castle, there is another exhibition by contemporary artists inspired by De Chirico's works: "Gli Specchi dell'Anima. Artisti intorno a De Chirico" (the Mirrors of the Soul, Artists close to De Chirico), to name a few: Adami, Ceroli, Chia, De Dominicis, Natham, Schifano. The exhibition is open every day from 9:00 - 19:00. Entrance ticket euro 8. Ongoing until 27 February 2011.

Cavour & Trieste at the San Giusto Castle ongoing until June 2011 (Piazza della Cattedrale 3, bus 24 from Train Station). The exhibition highlights the special relationship Cavour had with the city of Trieste, his stay in 1836, and the political and economic importance of the city used as a model for Europe's modernization in the 19th century.  Entrance ticket euro 5 (opening times 9:00 - 17:00). CLASSICAL MUSIC

On Monday 14 February, there will be a concert by the Quartetto Ebène, at the Rossetti Theatre in viale XX Settembre with music by Ravel, Debussy and Fauré at 20:30. FILMS

Tonight, “Alpi Giulie Cinema”, at the Miela Theatre in Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi. For those who love documentaries on mountain climbing, there will be a number of short films in their original soundtrack showing different mountain expeditions in different parts of the world.  MISCELLANEOUS

“Darwin Day”, an informal lecture (in Italian) at the Knulp in via Madonna del Mare on Sat 12 February at 16:00. “I sentieri dell’evoluzione tra forme reali e forme impossibili” by Giuseppe Fusco from the biology department of the university of Padova

 

“Miciamici”, Cat Festival at the Miela Theatre on Sunday 13 February starting at 18:00. For cat lovers (and not only), music, photography exhibition, poetry recital. Free entrance. See http://www.miela.it

 

“Chocolate Festival” starting today and ongoing until Valentine’s Day on 14 Feb, in Piazza Goldoni. Stands, workshops with “do-it-yourself” chocolates, entertainment  for adults and children.

 

Flea Market in Muggia on Sunday 13 Feb, starting at 8:00, in Piazza della Repubblica,  the seafront. You may find all sorts of crafts, bric à brac, old pieces of furniture. You may also visit  this lovely venetian town and its cathedral in Piazza Marconi. Nice small fish restaurants. Bus 20.

 

Theatre for Children “Favole in Libertà” at the Teatro Orazio Bobbio in via Ghirlandaio 12 on Sunday 13 Feb at 11:00. For children aged 5 – 11, fairy tales inspired by Gianni Rodari’s stories for children. Ticket euro 6.

 

For those who love jazz, there will be jam sessions organized by the Jazz Club Thelonious and in collaboration with the Tartini Music conservatory  on different dates at the Bar Knulp in Via Madonna del Mare. Check http://www.thelonious.trieste.it

 

 

OUTSIDE TRIESTE

"Munch e Lo Spirito del Nord", Villa Manin in Passariano di Codroipo in the province of Udine. For the first time in Italy, “Munch and the Spirit of the North. Scandinavia in the Second Half of the Nineteenth Century” aims to piece together a story that identifies the spirit of the North in painting in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The exhibition, composed of approximately 120 paintings on loan from Scandinavian museums in particular, but also from several other European and American museums, focuses chiefly on landscapes, although it also features a good number of portraits and figural works. Ongoing until 6 March 2011. Opening times: everyday 9:00 - 19:00 (until 1 Nov) and from 2 Nov Mon - Thurs 9:18:00 and Fri, Sat and Sun 9:00 - 19:00.
