ART EXHIBITIONS IN TRIESTE

Tonite at 18.00, Inauguration of solo show by artist Loredana Riavini at the Sala Comunale d'arte in Piazza Unita', 4.  Ongoing until 18 Feb, timing 10-13 and 17-20.

Sat 29 Jan. at 18.00, Inauguration of  'Living your dream" (Abitare il sogno), solo show by artist Tullio Fantuzzi at Art Gallery Rettori Tribbio in Piazza Vecchia, 6. tel 040370365. Art critic Marianna Accerboni will inaugurate the show. Ongoing until 11 Feb. 2011.

Sun 30 Jan, LAST DAY, Photography Exhibition: Sudan, Diritto al Cuore (Sudan, Straight to the Heart), by photographer Marcello Bonfanti at the Sala Fittke, Piazza Piccola 3 (behind Piazza Unità), timing: 10:00 - 13:00/17:00 - 20:00. Photos in particular re the situation in the refugee camps and the Salam Cardio clinic.

"Dalla Metafisica all'Arte" (from Metaphysics to Art). Ongoing exhibition by Giorgio De Chirico until 27 February at the "Scuderie del Castello di Miramare" (Miramare Castle "horse stables" - converted in an exhibition hall - before the main entrance of the Castle on viale Miramare). The exhibition presents 90 works tracing the artist's creativity. There is also a solo exhibition by the artist Fabio Mauri "Un Sognatore della Ragione" (a dreamer of the reason) with 5 installations and 1950 paintings. At the Miramare Castle, there is another exhibition by contemporary artists inspired by De Chirico's works: "Gli Specchi dell'Anima. Artisti intorno a De Chirico" (the Mirrors of the Soul, Artists close to De Chirico), to name a few: Adami, Ceroli, Chia, De Dominicis, Natham, Schifano. The exhibition is open every day from 9:00 - 19:00. Entrance ticket euro 8. Ongoing until 27 February 2011.

Cavour & Trieste at the San Giusto Castle ongoing until June 2011 (Piazza della Cattedrale 3, bus 24 from Train Station). The exhibition highlights the special relationship Cavour had with the city of Trieste, his stay in 1836, and the political and economic importance of the city used as a model for Europe's modernization in the 19th century.  Entrance ticket euro 5 (opening times 9:00 - 17:00). CLASSICAL MUSIC

Music Today at Teatro Miela "Il pentagramma di ferro - Musica nei lager nazisti"  at 20.30 (The iron pentragram- musica in nazi lagers) to celebrate Memorial Day. A project by Alessandro Carrieri and pianist Pierpaolo Levi. Entrance free.

Tartini Music Conservatory "Wednesday Night Concerts" are free and open to all prior to booking. Forthcoming on 31st Jan: Piano recital with Rosella Clini. The Conservatory is situated in via Ghega 12, close to the Central Train Station. Today at 18.00 at Libreria Lovat downtonwn in Viale XX settembre, 3rd floor, the comedian Gioele DIX will present his first book to the public "Si vede che era destino ". At Lovat on Sunday 30 Jan spend some time with your kids, sweet breakfast rolls for kids for free at 11 am and an animator telling stories (Italian only) about super-hero caribu and his adventures (from 11-12). Parents can walk around the library and read or purchase interesting books or go to the inhouse bar for a coffee and a brunch. The library is open until 7.30 pm. Tel 040637399.

At Montedoro Freetime Shopping centre from 28 to 29 January, Guinness book of Records Show, one performance every hour  from 14 - 20 hrs: For the first time in Italy Iryna Bilenka who holds the record for the largest rainbow soap bubble in the world.  Also, Street Art programme for kids from 15 -19 hrs. with clown Mimi, gags, balloon designer. Entrance free for all.

OUTSIDE TRIESTE

"Munch e Lo Spirito del Nord", Villa Manin in Passariano di Codroipo in the province of Udine. For the first time in Italy, “Munch and the Spirit of the North. Scandinavia in the Second Half of the Nineteenth Century” aims to piece together a story that identifies the spirit of the North in painting in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The exhibition, composed of approximately 120 paintings on loan from Scandinavian museums in particular, but also from several other European and American museums, focuses chiefly on landscapes, although it also features a good number of portraits and figural works. Ongoing until 6 March 2011. Opening times: everyday 9:00 - 19:00 (until 1 Nov) and from 2 Nov Mon - Thurs 9:18:00 and Fri, Sat and Sun 9:00 - 19:00.
