ART EXHIBITIONS IN TRIESTE

Photography Exhibition by Gianni Piossi "La Fede nell'Anima", viaggio a Trieste tra ebrei, ortodossi, protestanti, musulmani e buddhisti (Faith in the soul, a trip to Trieste among Jews, Orthodoxies, Protestants, Muslims and Buddhists), texts by Gabriela Preda. Venue:  at the Sala Comunale d'Arte in Piazza Unità 4, ongoing until 26 Jan, timings 10:00 - 13:00/ 17:00 - 20:00.

at the Sala Fittke, Piazza Piccola 3 (behind Piazza Unità), timing: 10:00 - 13:00/17:00 - 20:00, ongoing until 30 Jan. There will also be a conference on Sat 15 at 18:00 at the NH Hotel (ex-Jolly) in Corso Cavour, close to the Central Train Station with Dr, Giorgio Monti from Emergency who will share his medical experiences in Sudan in particular re the situation in the refugee camps and the Salam Cardio clinic.


"Dalla Metafisica all'Arte"
(from Metaphysics to Art).
Ongoing exhibition by Giorgio De Chirico until 27 February at the "Scuderie del Castello di Miramare" (Miramare Castle "horse stables" - converted in an exhibition hall - before the main entrance of the Castle on viale Miramare). The exhibition presents 90 works tracing the artist's creativity. There is also a solo exhibition by the artist Fabio Mauri "Un Sognatore della Ragione" (a dreamer of the reason) with 5 installations and 1950 paintings. At the Miramare Castle, there is another exhibition by contemporary artists inspired by De Chirico's works: "Gli Specchi dell'Anima. Artisti intorno a De Chirico" (the Mirrors of the Soul, Artists close to De Chirico), to name a few: Adami, Ceroli, Chia, De Dominicis, Natham, Schifano. The exhibition is open every day from 9:00 - 19:00. Entrance ticket euro 8. Ongoing until 27 February 2011.


Cavour & Trieste at the San Giusto Castle ongoing until June 2011 (
Piazza della Cattedrale 3, bus 24 from Train Station). The exhibition highlights the special relationship Cavour had with the city of Trieste, his stay in 1836, and the political and economic importance of the city used as a model for Europe's modernization in the 19th century.  Entrance ticket euro 5 (opening times 9:00 - 17:00). CLASSICAL MUSIC

Tartini Music Conservatory "Wednesday Night Concerts" are free and open to all prior to booking. Forthcoming on Wed 19 Jan: Violin-Piano Duo with Dorota Jasinska and Hiromi Arai, on Jan 26: Guitar recital with Heiki Matlik and 31 Jan: Piano recital with Rosella Clini. The Conservatory is situated in via Ghega 12, close to the Central Train Station. MISCELLANEOUS

TODAY AT 17.30 hrs : Book Presentation "La Fede nell'Anima" (Faith in the heart) by Gabriela Preda, a journey amongst Jews, Orthodoxies, Protestants, Muslims and Buddhists in Trieste. Venue at the Molo IV on Thursday 13 Jan at 17:30.

 

On the occasion of the ongoing winter sales in Trieste, there will be a number of street artists performing in the open air on Friday 14 and Sat 15 Jan in Piazza della Borsa, Piazza Cavana, Viale XX Settembre, and Piazza Goldoni on various hours in the afternoon at 15:00, 16:00, 17:00 and 18:00.

 

"Trieste is Rock" live music with three leading local bands playing on the same night at the Ausonia Club in Riva Traiana on Friday 14 Jan: Wild Ones, J'Accuse and My Space Invaders and Saturday 15 Nite4IXIS. Bus 8.

 

OUTSIDE TRIESTE

"Munch e Lo Spirito del Nord", Villa Manin in Passariano di Codroipo in the province of Udine. For the first time in Italy, “Munch and the Spirit of the North. Scandinavia in the Second Half of the Nineteenth Century” aims to piece together a story that identifies the spirit of the North in painting in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The exhibition, composed of approximately 120 paintings on loan from Scandinavian museums in particular, but also from several other European and American museums, focuses chiefly on landscapes, although it also features a good number of portraits and figural works. Ongoing until 6 March 2011. Opening times: everyday 9:00 - 19:00 (until 1 Nov) and from 2 Nov Mon - Thurs 9:18:00 and Fri, Sat and Sun 9:00 - 19:00.

UPCOMING

Trieste International Film Festival 20 - 26 Jan with film projections at the Miela and Ariston Cinemas. The opening film of the 22nd edition of the Trieste Film Festival will be CIRKUS COLUMBIA, by the Oscar winner Danis Tanović (who won in 2002 with No Man's Land), with the presence of the director.  In Cirkus Columbia, Tanović comes back to 'his' Yugoslavia, in the days before the war of '91, with a story of loneliness and friendship, drawn from literary debut of Croatian journalist Ivica Ðikić.
