Special Guided Tour of Trieste and Surroundings on Sunday 16 January 2011 with an English-speaking guide

 

Duino Castle, Muggia and Trieste's Historic Sites

 

Programme:

Meeting Point with our guide and coach at 9:30 in Grignano (near bus stop 36)

and return time at around 17:30 hrs.

 

-       You will visit the beautiful Duino Castle that was built in the 14th century on high cliffs overlooking the Gulf of Trieste and surrounded by a beautiful park. The castle is still the home of the Prince della Torre e Tasso and has hosted many famous visitors and artists through the centuries. One can admire a large variety of precious furnishings, paintings and historical documents and the striking panorama from the dining-room terrace.

-       The next stop is Muggia, on the other side of the bay, a lovely Istro-Venitian fishing village close to the border with Slovenia. You will explore its "calli", narrow, picturesque streets flanked by old buildings, admire the main square, Piazza Marconi, visit the Cathedral and stop for snacks / refreshments.

-       We will take you to Trieste to visit its main historical sites: Piazza Unità and its surroundings, the San Giusto Castle (Saint Just) built between 1470 and 1630, which rises up the hill in the heart of the ancient city centre of Trieste, its Cathedral, built in the 14th century with its beautiful mosaics and nearby the remains of the ancient Roman city dating back to the first and second century.

- The tour will end at around 17:30. Our bus will take you back to Grignano but you may also choose to stay downtown and spend some more time in Trieste.

 

Please wear comfortable shoes and warm clothes for the season.

 

Come to the Info Point, Leonardo Building, and sign up as soon as possible. There are only 53 places available and will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. The discounted contribution for the whole tour is 11,50/head and includes entrance to the Duino Castle, guide and transportation.

Please wear very comfortable shoes/sneakers and warm clothes for the season.
