EXHIBITIONS IN TRIESTE

In-House ICTP photography exhibition: For those who have not seen it yet, visit the historical photography exhibition with over 20 attractive pictures of ICTP's history from its foundation up to today. It is located in the area to the right of the Main Lecture Hall of the Leonardo Building.


"Dalla Metafisica all'Arte"
(from metaphysics to Art). Inauguration of a new exhibition of works by Giorgio De Chirico on Sat 3 December at the "Scuderie del Castello di Miramare" (
Miramare Castle "horse stables" - converted in an exhibition hall - before the main entrance of the Castle on viale Miramare). The exhibition presents 90 works tracing the artist's creativity. There is also a solo exhibition of the artist Fabio Mauri "Un Sognatore della Ragione" (a dreamer of the reason) with 5 installations and 1950s paintings. At the Miramare Castle, there is another exhibition of contemporary artists inspired by De Chirico's works: "Gli Specchi dell'Anima. Artisti intorno a De Chirico" (the Mirrors of the Soul, Artists close to  De Chirico), to name a few: Adami, Ceroli, Chia, De Dominicis, Natham, Schifano. The exhibition is open every day from 9:00 - 19:00. Entrance ticket euro 8. Ongoing until 27 February 2011.


"Sotto Trieste, duemila anni di storia in cittavecchia"
(Under Trieste, two thousand years of history under the old city ) at the Biblioteca Statale in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII, nr. 6. It is an urban archaeology exhibit with recent discoveries after excavations that were made in the old part of the city. The exhibiton is ongoing until 7 Dec with the following hours: Thursday 9:00 - 18:00, Friday and Sat 9:00 - 13:30


Roberta di Camerino, Italian fashion designer, at the Revoltella Museum:
 "La Revoluzione del Colore" (the revolution of colour), ongoing until 12 December. Opening hours every day 10:00 - 19:00 (closed on Tuesdays). You may also visit this sumptuous, historical dwelling with its original 19th century furniture, art collections and sculptures and the Modern Art Gallery.  The museum is located in via Diaz 27, close to Piazza Venezia, take bus 8. Entrance ticket 6,50.


CLASSICAL MUSIC

Matinee Concert at the Revoltella Museum on Sunday 5 Dec at 11:00, with the Nuova Orchestra Ferruccio Busoni, directed by Massimo Belli, music by Coral, Paganini, de Beriot and Farkas. . Entrance to museum and concert: euro 6,50. There are also free-guided tours included in the price from 10:00 - 12:00 and art workshops for children aged 7 - 10 from 10:00 - 13:00 and in the afternoon for smaller children (age 4 - 6) from 16:00 - 18:00. "I Concerti della Cometa",
at the Lutheran Church on Sunday 5 Dec "Quartetto Sirio"at 17:00, msuic by Shumann, Brahms. See http://www.nova-academia.it. The church is located in Largo Panfili, behind the central post office. Tickets euro 10/head at the Ticket Point in Corso Italia 6/c, tel: 040 3498276. Last concert on Wednesday 8 Dec at 17:00: Cheryl Porter from the USA and the Orchestra Classica del Veneto, directed by Dino Doni with music by Vivaldi, Handel, Holst, J. Lennon and Grauber.


Wunder Kammer concert on Sunday 5 Dec at 20:30 at the Sartorio Museum, "la Tecla de l'alma'  (the keyboard of the soul) by Cabezon with Paola Erdas on clavicymbals.
The concert is free and seats will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. The Sartorio museum is worth visiting: It is an ancient 18th century Villa that belonged to a noble family from Genoa. The rooms are furnished with antique furniture, decorative objects and paintings. The museum has a number of important art collections including the works of the great Venetian master, Giambattista Tiepolo (1696-1770). The Sartorio is situated in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII n.1 - take bus 30


Tartini Music Conservatory Concert, forthcoming concerts: Friday 10 Dec: guitar concert, Wed 15 Dec, Jazz Ensemble and Monday 20 Dec, Christmas Concert.
The Conservatory is situated in via Ghega 12, close to the Central Train Station. The concerts are free but you must book your place by calling the Conservatory the day before each concert preferably on Tuesday morning (tel: 040 6724911). The concert "Two seasons for Christmas", "La Misa Criolla di Ariel Ramirez", will be repeated on Sat 8 January at 20:00 at the Chiesa SS.Andrea ap. e Rita da Cascia in via Locchi 22 and Sunday 9 January at 18:00 at the Chiesa di S. Caterina da Siena in via dei Mille 18.
  Music with the Contizanetti Ensemble, Alessandra Franco voice and the Hortus Musicus Choir directed by Vincenzo NInci.


GUIDED TOUR

"La Citta' di Miriam" is a free-guided by foot tour in Italian today at 16:00. A qualified guide will that will take you on a walk on the footsteps of Fulvio Tomizza, an Italian writer from Trieste. Meeting point at the Giardino Pubblico in Largo Tomizza (the corner of the public garden on via Giulia) and return to the Caffé San Marco at 18:00 where there will be the book presentation "La Citta' di Miriam" in its new edition, followed by refreshments and "crostoli" (typical carnival sweets). MISCELLANEOUS

Inauguration of a new jazz music club at the Caffé Rossetti on Friday 3 December: "jazz@lipsticks" directed by Stefano Franco. The evening at the Rossetti Caffé (same building as the Rossetti Theatre o Viale XX Settembre) will start at 20:30 with jazz music played by Stefano Franco and James Thompson and the the "Shipyard Town Jazz Orchestra directed by Flavio Davanzo with music from the 1940s (Glen Miller, Count Basie, Thelonius Monk, Duke Ellington). Following this, there will be jazz music every Friday night starting at 22:30.

"Fiera di San Nicolo" is the annual open air "gift market" that takes place in December in Viale XX Settembre. Kiosks with Xmas items and stands with food specialities. Ongoing until 8 December.


"Fiesta Argentina"
(Argentinean Party) on Sunday 5 Dec at the Campo Sacro compound in Prosecco starting at 12:30, organized by the Associazione Italo-Argentina "Madretierra". There will be music and entertainment. Entrance ticket is euro 5/head which includes 2 empanadas and a drink of your choice. Any other extras must be paid. There are limited places as the "fiesta" is organized indoors for a max of 70 persons. You must book your place by writing to: associazionemadretierra@gmail.com today at the latest. Tickets will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. You can reach the place with buses 42, 44 or 46.

"Munch e Lo Spirit del Nord", Villa Main in Passerine did Cardio in the province of Udine. For the first time in Italy, “Munch and the Spirit of the North. Scandinavia in the Second Half of the Nineteenth Century” aims to piece together a story that identifies the spirit of the North in painting in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The exhibition, composed of approximately 120 paintings on loan from Scandinavian museums in particular, but also from several other European and American museums, focuses chiefly on landscapes, although it also features a good number of portraits and figural works. Ongoing until 6 March 2011. Opening times: everyday 9:00 - 19:00 (until 1 Nov) and from 2 Nov Mon - Thurs 9:18:00 and Fri, Sat and Sun 9:00 - 19:00. Tel: 0432 906509.

You can reach Villa Manin by car: Take motorway A24 proceed in the direction of Udine, exit Udine Sud and take SS Pordenone - Venezia, follow direction to Codroipo until you get to Passariano.
