CLASSICAL MUSIC

Inauguration of the Opera Season at the Verdi Theatre with "La Traviata" by Verdi. Ongoing until 23 Nov. Check: http://www.teatroverdi-trieste.com. There is a 50% reduction on tickets purchased "last minute" (one hour before the show) for all performances directly at the Verdi's ticket office. You may also send an SMS to: 340 4350395 and join the Verdi's mailing list info for last minute seats availability. "I Concerti della Cometa",
at the Lutheran Church on Sun 21 Nov at 17:00, a guitar concert with Ennio Guerrato, music by Dowland, Maudarra, Weiss, Giuliani, Tarrega, Malets, Garados, Mangor and Ripo. Wunder Kammer concert on Thursday 18 Nov at 20:30 at the Sartorio Museum, a lute
concert in the Costantinides Hall. The concert is free and seats will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. The Sartorio museum is worth visiting: It is an ancient 18th century Villa that belonged to a noble family of Genovese origin. The rooms are furnished with antique furniture, decorative objects and paintings. The museum has a number of important art collections such as the Tiepolo Veneziano works. The Sartorio is situated in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII n.1 - take bus 30


Miramare Castle concerts
on Sat 20 Nov at 20:30, "Il Giardino dei Barberini" with the Janas Ensemble and Lia Serafini, soprano. Next concert on Wednesday 24 Nov at 20:30 organized by the Wunder Kammer "Nocturne and Waltz", music by Chopin with Bart van Oort on the piano. Both concerts are  free and held in the Throne Room, 80 seats available and allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Check http://www.casello-miramare.it


Tartini Music Conservatroy "Wednesday Night Concerts" are free and open to all prior to booking. Forthcoming on 24 Nov "Live Electronics and piano" Doati video.

GUIDED TOURS

"Osmizza d'Autunno" ongoing until 28 Nov organized by Parovel wine producer in San Dorligo della Valle (Bagnoli della Rosandra). There you can eat a cold cut platter with different kinds of hams and cheeses for euro 10 (wines are not included in the price), and you can taste the newly produced "novello wine" as well as other well-known wines produced by this winery.  The "osmizza" will be open from 6 - 14 Nov and from 21 to 28 Nov, Mon - Fri 17:00 - 23:00 and Sat - Sun 10:00 - 23:00.

There will be free visits to the Parovel oil pressing mills on Sunday 21 where you can taste extra virgin olive oils and even for purchase. The tours will be at 11:30, 12:30, 15:00 and 16:00 but it is necessary to book your place by calling 346 7590953. Last visit, next Sunday. Take bus 40.


ART EXHIBITIONS IN TRIESTE

Opening of a solo exhibition of Catalan artist Jordi Alcaraz "La scomparsa delle immagini" on Sat 20 Nov at 18:30 at the Galleria Torbandena in via Tor Bandena 1. The artist who lives in Barcelona will present. The gallery is located close to the Roman Theatre and the Questura. Ongoing until 31 Dec. See http://www.torbandena.com

Sartorio Museum: "Le Mille Storie di Sir Richard Burton" (1821 - 1890), ongoing until 21 Nov
dedicated to the figure of this British diplomat, an expert traveller and orientalist of his time and famous for his translation of the "Thousand and One Nights" into English. The exhibition covers his works and life with a special attention to 18 years spent in Trieste as the British Consul. The Sartorio Museum is also worth visiting as it is an ancient historic dwelling with important art collections and beautiful furniture recalling the lives of nobles and rich merchants living in this city during the past centuries. Opening times Tues - Sun 9:00 - 13:00 and Wednesdays also in the afternoon 15:00 - 19:00. The Museum is situated in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII in Trieste. Bus 30 or 10.


Roberta di Camerino, Italian fashion designer, at the Revoltella Museum:
 "La Revoluzione del Colore" (the revolution of colour), ongoing until 12 December. Opening hours every day 10:00 - 19:00 (closed on Tuesdays). You may also visit this sumptuous, historical dwelling with its original 19th century furniture, art collections and sculptures and the Modern Art Gallery.  The museum is located in via Diaz 27, close to Piazza Venezia, take bus 8. Entrance ticket 6,50. There is a guided tour organized by us for ICTP scientists and visitors on Sunday 21 with an English speaking guide, reduced entrance fee (4,50/head), the visit includes the visit to the museum, concert and refreshments. Please check with the Info Point at the latest on Friday afternoon.


MISCELLANEOUS

Book Presentation tonight at Bookshop "Libreria Lovat" in Viale XX Settembre 20 at 18:00: "Come diventare italiani in 24 ore" (how to become Italian in 24 hours) by Laila Wadia, writer and university professor from India but living in Trieste. Laila Wadia arrived in Italy from India with a scholarship to study at the university here more than 20 years ago and has remained ever since. The books she writes are witty and full of humour. The book she presents tonight is a humoristic vademecum for foreigners who come to Italy for the first time and wish to understand the Italian way of life.

 

OUTSIDE TRIESTE

"Munch e Lo Spirito del Nord", Villa Manin in Passariano di Codroipo in the province of Udine. For the first time in Italy, “Munch and the Spirit of the North. Scandinavia in the Second Half of the Nineteenth Century” aims to piece together a story that identifies the spirit of the North in painting in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The exhibition, composed of approximately 120 paintings on loan from Scandinavian museums in particular, but also from several other European and American museums, focuses chiefly on landscapes, although it also features a good number of portraits and figural works. Ongoing until 6 March 2011. Opening times: everyday 9:00 - 19:00 (until 1 Nov) and from 2 Nov Mon - Thurs 9:18:00 and Fri, Sat and Sun 9:00 - 19:00.
