CLASSICAL MUSIC

Verdi Symphony Orchestra concert season: Friday 15 and Saturday 16 Oct: Music by Sibelius and Strauss, directed by Julian Kovatchev. There is a 50% reduction on tickets purchased "last minute" (one hour before the show) for all performances directly at the Verdi's ticket office. You may also send an SMS to: 340 4350395 and join the Verdi's mailing list info for last minute seats availability. ART EXHIBITION

Miramare Castle Special: On the occasion of the 150 anniversary of the Castle, every last Tuesday of the month of Oct (26), Nov (23) and Dec (28) the Castle will be open to visitors at night from 19:00 - 23:00 with free entrance and free guided tours to the art Exhibition "Il Bacio "by Francesco Hayez (at 19:00, 20:00, 21:00 and 22:00).

Cavour & Trieste at the San Giusto Castle ongoing until June 2011 (
Piazza della Cattedrale 3, bus 24 from Train Station). The exhibition highlights the special relationship Cavour had with the city of Trieste, his stay in 1836, and the political and economic importance of the city used as a model for Europe's modernization in the 19th century.  Entrance ticket euro 5 (opening times in October 9 - 19 and Nov - March 9:00 - 17:00). Revoltella Museum History of Art Courses starting on 13 October and ongoing until January (timings 17:30 -18:30):
This year the Museum is offering to the general public a series of 24 lectures held by specialists on the history of art (from the Middle Ages to the 19th century) and some special lectures on the "Liberty" period in Italy, "Art and the Italian Unification", "Portraits and Self-Portaits, "Art and Fashion".  All lectures will be held in the Auditorium and the total cost for the whole academic year is 15 euro/pers to be paid directly at the Revoltella's ticket office. There are 170 places available and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. You will receive a membership card that will entitle you to enter freely to all exhibitions and take part in all guided tours organized by the Museum. Mirò, "Il Poeta del Colore"
(the poet of colours) ongoing until 7 November at the Scuderie di Miramare (ex-horse stables of the Miramare Castle close to the main entrance gate). The exhibition is a collection of Mirò's art prints, lithographs, watercolours combined with poetic verses by the artist himself. Open from Tues - Sun 10:00 - 18:30. FREE GUIDED WALKS:

 

Lions Club Miramar Trieste organises a Walking in James Joyce’s footsteps in Trieste. The initiative - in English language - is dedicated to students, researchers and their families. The cultural walk will be held on 15th October 2010, it will be begin at 5 p.m. from Piazza Unità d’Italia and it will end at 6.30 p.m. in Piazza del Ponterosso. After the walk, the Lions Club Miramar Trieste will offer refreshments at Caffè Tommaseo (Piazza Nicolò Tommaseo, 4c). Please note: the maximum number of participants is 20 persons. Guided Walk to Mount Lanaro on Sunday 17 Oct.  It is a Natural Reserve Park   situated in the Carso to the north of Opicina, 545 m above sea level, mostly covered by forest. From there you can enjoy an incredible view of the area. The guided tour is in Italian and will focus on discovering the fruits and plants of the Carso, their botanical characteristics, their history and legends. The walk is accessible to all (provided you wear good walking shoes) and will take 3 hours (9:30 - 13:00). The meeting point with the guided is fixed at 9:15 in the main square of Sgonico. On the same day, there will also be 2 guided tours at the Carsiana Botanical Garden in Sgonico at 15:00 and 16:00 and will be centered on the geological aspects of Carsic phenomena. CINEMA

The British Film Club in Trieste will start its seasonal projections in November at the Ariston Cinema in Viale Romolo Gessi 14 (Buses 8, 9, 15). The annual subscription fee is euro 25 (to be made in via San Nicolo 19, from Monday 11 Oct -  Fri 29 Oct, 10:00 - 12:00 / 16:00- 18:00) and includes 9 films to be seen at the Ariston, books and DVD borrowing. On the occasion of the European Week for Sharks, the WWF and the Natural Reserve Park of Miramare have organized a conference (in Italian) for the preservation of sharks "the shark route from Trieste to Japan with no return" followed by a film documentary by Rob Stewart "Sharkwater" at the Lega Navale, Sala Conferenza , Molo Fratelli Bandiera 9, (bus 8) on Friday 15 October at 20:30.
