SPECIAL EVENT ON SUNDAY 10 OCTOBER: LA
BARCOLANA SAILING REGATTA! The
Barcolana is one of the most famous sailing regattas in the
Mediterranean Sea. It will take place for the 42nd time in the Gulf of
Trieste
on Sunday 10 October at 10:00 with over 2000 sailing boats taking part
in the
race. It is really a unique sight to watch either from the sea front
near
Barcola (bus 6 or 36) or from a higher vantage point such as the
"Napoleonica" path overlooking the town (bus 2 or the tram) or from
Strada del Friuli near the Victory Light House (Faro della Vittora)
reachable
by bus 42 or 44 from Piazza Oberdan. There are side events all week,
live music
concerts in Piazza Unità on Friday Saturday night and kiosks and stands
on the
"Rive', the sea promenade in front of Piazza Unità, offering all kinds
of
items ranging from sailing products to technical equipments, clothes,
books, gastronomy

CLASSICAL MUSIC
Verdi Symphony Orchestra concert season:
Friday 8 and
Saturday 9 Oct, Mendelssohn Bartholdi (Overture Ruy Blas with soprano
Miranda
Keys) followed by Beethoven's symphonies nr 6 "Pastoral"). There is a 50% reduction on tickets purchased "last
minute" (one hour before the show) for all performances directly at the
Verdi's ticket office. You may also send an SMS to: 340 4350395 and

Verdi's mailing list info for last minute seats availability. Only for
the Sat
afternoon performances young people under 26 can purchase tickets for
euro 5. For

ART EXHIBITION
New exhibition: Cavour & Trieste at the San Giusto Castle ongoing until June 2011 (Piazza della Cattedrale 3, bus 24 from Train Station). The exhibition highlights the special relationship Cavour had with the city of Trieste, his stay in 1836, and the political and economic importance of the city used as a model for Europe's modernization in the 19th century. Revoltella Museum History of Art Courses starting on
13 October and ongoing until January (timings 17:30 -18:30): This year the Museum is offering to the general
public a series of 24 lectures held by specialists on the history
of art (from the Middle Ages to the 19th century) and some special
lectures on
the "Liberty" period in Italy, "Art and the Italian
Unification", "Portraits and Self-Portaits, "Art and Fashion". All lectures will be held in the
Auditorium and the total cost for the whole academic year is 15
euro/pers to be
paid directly at the Revoltella's ticket office. There are 170 places
available
and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. You will
receive a
membership card that will entitle you to enter freely to all
exhibitions and
take part in all guided tours organized by the Museum. For more info

CINEMA
The British Film Club in
Trieste will start its seasonal projections in November at the Ariston
Cinema
in Viale Romolo Gessi 14 (Buses 8, 9, 15). The annual subscription fee
is euro
25 (to be made in via San Nicolo 19, from Monday 11 Oct -
Fri 29 Oct, 10:00 - 12:00 / 16:00-
18:00) and includes 9 films to be seen at the Ariston, books and DVD
borrowing.
