SATURDAY
4
September : AQUILEIA and GRADO TRIP
FOR ICTP SCIENTISTS AND VISITORS
On
Saturday 4 September, there will be a special guided tour by
coach to AQUILEIA and GRADO (about 45 km from Trieste) with
an English-speaking guide.
AQUILEIA is one
of the most
interesting sites in the Region, an ancient marshland settlement, with
a
700-year Roman period dating back to 181 B.C. There are old Roman
mosaics in
the basilica and Roman ruins
spread out in a lovely landscape.
Following the tour of Aquileia, you will stop in Grado
- a
fishermen's village, now a small town, built on a lagoon with many
historical
connections with Aquileia and Venice. You may visit its historical
centre, the
basilica and Roman remains. It is a
well-known SPA centre all year round and a beach resort in summer with
many
sandy beaches. For those who wish to have a swim, we remind you to take
your
bathing costume and a towel. You may also like to wander around the old
city and
do some shopping or have a snack before leaving. There are many snack
bars and
ice-cream parlours as well.
The discounted contribution requested for the tour is only
5,00 euro /head - payable when you sign
up.
Recommendation: Wear
comfortable shoes/sandals and a cap as it may be hot while you visit Aquileia. A
small bottle of drinking water may also be useful.
