Tonight at ICTP: Classical Music Concert at 19:00 (lasts for less than an hour) at the Leonardo Building in the Main Lecture Hall with the Hoffmeister Quartet of the Tartini Music Conservatory followed by a special dinner organized by the Leonardo Building Cafeteria with Balkan specialties on the Terrace! All scientists, visitors and Staff are most welcome!

CLASSICAL MUSIC


Opera at the Trieste Verdi Theatre: Othello, music by Giuseppe Verdi. Performances on 27 and 29 May and 1 - 3 - 5 - 6 - 8 June.
There is a 50% reduction on tickets purchased "last minute" (one hour before the show) for all performances directly at the Verdi's ticket office. Piano and Clarinet Duo at the Tartini Music Conservatory on Friday 28 May at 20:30. Music by Joplin, Monti, Puccini, Gershwin, Williams, Bonfa, Schreiner and Brubeck.

"Schiller per la Musica
": A piano violin Duo, on Saturday 29 May at 20:30 at the Sala Beethoven in via Coroneo 15, 2nd floor.  Free entrance. 3 minutes walk from Piazza Oberdan, take bus 36.


Bach Music

GUIDED TOURS

Two free guided tours in Italian organized by the Marine Reserve of Miramare and WWF on Sat 29 May from 9:00 - 12:00: A panoramic walking Tour and on Sunday 30 from 9:00 - 12:00, a guided tour from the Miramare park to Contovello. Meeting point at the "Casteletto" building, inside the Miramare park, from 9:00 - 11:00: "Marine Bird Watching" for adults and children to learn more about nature and marine life and environment. Guided tours on Sundays at the Sartorio Museum in Trieste. This museum
is an ancient 18th century Villa built by a family of noble Genoese origins. The guided tours of the Villa start at 10:30 every Sunday and are ongoing until 13 June. You may visit the Villa's beautiful rooms with its antique furniture and learn about the history of Trieste through the lives of the Sartorio family members. The museum has a number of important art collections such as Tiepolo's works, a famous Venetian artist who lived in the XVIII century, and more recently those of Fittke. On Sun 30

Carsiana Botanical Garden in Sgonico. There will be free-guided tours on Sat 29 and Sun 30 from 16:00 - 19:00.
Carsiana is open Tue – Fri 10:00 /13:00, Sat and Sun (and holidays) 10:00- 13:00/ 15:00 – 19:00. Take bus 46 from Piazza Oberdan and then reach Sgonico by buses 42 or 44. ENTERTAINMENT

"Ritmos, musica y colores del Peru" (Rhythms, music and colours of Peru) at the Miela Theatre on Sat 29 May at 20:45. Musicians and dancers from Peru will be performing with live music and typical folk dances. Money colletced for the show will be given to support a project for the prevention of infantile deafness in Peru. The event is organized by the associazione per la cooperazione italo-peruviana di Trieste. The Miela Theatre is siutated close to the train station, in Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi 3.


"8th Festival for Diversity" at the Ausonia Beach Club
in Riva Traiana (bus 8 - after Piazza Unità) from Fri 28 to Sun 30 May with concerts, workshops, ethnic dances, food. Some suggestions: Friday 28 at 17:00 a Didjeridoo workshop and a show at 22:30 with African dances and percussions, on Sat 29 at 19:00 a workshop on African percussions and at 21:30 a show with Balkan and Greek folk dances and on Sun 30 May at 21:00 a Flamenco show followed at 21:30 an Afro-Brazilian concert with percussions.


"Duino in Festa" 28 - 30 May:
There will be a series of art exhibitions, kiosks with local food products, bowl games in the streets and around the Castle. On Friday 28 May at 19:00, a classical Music Concert at the Auditorium of the UWC. On Sunday 30 May, an excursion on the Rilke Path from 9:00 - 12:00 (departure and meeting point at the IAT of Sistiana). You may book the tour by calling: 040 224147.


"Festa delle Ciliegie” from
29 may to 2 June (Cherry Festival) is a traditional open air festival with music, food and entertainment, held every year at the end of May in Caresana in San Dorligo della Valle. Take bus 40.


MISCELLANEOUS

This weekend!” CANTINE APERTE' ON 29 AND 30 MAY, "OPEN CELLARS DAY" is a major wine event in the Region with 130 wine producers opening their cellars to the public. Visitors have the opportunity to tour vineyards and explore cellars, taste wines and learn many interesting facts about the techniques of wine making. The programme is rounded off with art exhibitions, concerts and cultural events and tasting of local delicacies in the cellars. On this occasion there will be a special "Wine Bus" on Sunday 30 May departing from the parking area opposite the Sala Tripcovich close to the Train Station. A wine specialist for the tour will accompany you. The programme includes a visit to 4 important wine producers and wine tasting in their cellars. Departure time is fixed at 9:30 and return to Trieste will be at around 19:00. The total fee for the tour is 35 euro, which also includes a hot meal at the Trattoria La Bellanotte. "Sapori del Golfo, Sapori di Trieste"
is a gastronomic event which takes place every weekend until the end of July. There are kiosks and stands that offer fish and seafood specialties from the gulf of Trieste. You can enjoy your meal on the terrace and there is also live music and entertainment at night. The venue is at the Mercato Ittico - area ex-Gaslini close to the Torri d'Europa shopping Centre in via Svevo (Bus 8). Open on Saturdays 18:00 - 24:00 and Sundays 12:00 - 24:00

 

For adults and children: learn more about marine life with lectures and guided tours organized by the Marine Reserve of Miramare and WWF. This Sun 23 May, there will be 2 appointments at 10:30 and at 15:30 on the topic "Tempo di fioriture... marine" (marine flowering). Meeting point at the "Castelletto" inside the Miramare Park. "The Evolution of an idea" at the Immaginario Scientifico in collaboration with WWF Italy,
(Riva Massimiliano e Carlotta 15, in Grignano beneath the Adriatico Guest House). The exhibition presents multi-vision projections on themes related to Darwin's theory of evolution from the origins of species to biodiversity, on genetics and the mechanisms of reproduction, on natural selection and biodiversity. 3rd workshop of the Italian Astrobiology Society: "When Darwin meets Copernicus", 26 - 28 May at the Duino Castle.
Prof Chela Flores from ICTP is a member of the organizing Committee. There will be a number of talks held by prominent scientists.


 
"New Perspectives in Astrobiology", today at the Miela Theatre at 18:00
. A series of talks in Italian, organized by the Astronomy Observatrory of Trieste, INAF and Science Centre Immaginario Scientifico: three talks given by Italian Scientists working in pretigious foreign institutes: Daniel Segre' (Boston Universtty), Sandra Pizzarello (Arizona State Univerity, Tempe, USA) and Giovanna Tinetti (University College, London).
