CONFERENCE IN TRIESTE TODAY AND FRIDAY
"Esplorare L'Estremo" (Explore the Extreme): The Museo Nazionale dell'Antartide has organized a series of talks open to the public starting on 19 May at 16:00 on life in extreme environments. The talks are held in Italian. Three scientists form ICTP will be taking part today and Friday 21 May. Today at 17:00: Claudio Tuniz, will give a talk: "Storie di Adattamenti Umani Estremi: Neanderthal, Hobbit e...Yeti". On Friday 21 May, at 16:00: Julian Chela-Flores, will give a talk: "Alla Ricerca della Vita in Ambienti Estremi: l'Antartide e i Satelliti Galileiani di Giove". The conference will end with Filippo Giorgi who will be interviewed by Daniela Picoi at 19:00. Venue: Lega Navale Italiana in Molo Fratelli Bandiera nr. 9 (take bus 8).


CLASSICAL MUSIC

"I Concerti delle Cinque" (the five o'clock concerts) at the Revoltella Museum (in via Diaz 27 - take bus 8) on Sun 23 at 17:00, free entrance on a first-come, first-served basis. The concert is organized by the Scuola Superiore Internazionale "Trio di Trieste and the United World College. There will be a piano and violin duo concert that will play music by Schumann followed by the Gentilucci Trio with music by Dvorak. Check http://www.museorevoltella.it


GUIDED TOURS

Guided tours on Sunday at the Sartorio Museum in Trieste. This museum is an ancient 18th century Villa built by a family of noble Genovese origins. The guided tours of the Villa start at 10:30 every Sunday and are ongoing until 13 June. You may visit the Villa's beautiful rooms with its antique furniture and learn about the history of Trieste through the lives of the Sartorio family members. The museum has a number of important art collections such as the Tiepolo Veneziano works and more recently those of Fittke. For more info call 040 301479. Carsiana Botanical Garden in Sgonico
is open Tue – Fri 10:00 /13:00, Sat and Sun (and holidays) 10:00- 13:00/ 15:00 – 19:00. Take bus 46 from Piazza Oberdan and then reach Sgonico by buses 42 or 44. On the occasion of the UN day for the Preservation of Nature and biodiversity held on 22 May,
the Associazione Ape Giramondo has organized a series of guided tours on Saturday to promote the natural environments of the Region such as the lagoon area of the Isonzo River, the Carso and the Collio area of the Province of Gorizia. Guided tours by boat to visit the Natural Reserve Park of the Isonzo River
(close to Grado) on Sunday 23 May at 11:00 and at 14:00. The tour by boat lasts around 2 hours. Along the river path, it is possible to observe uncontaminated natural environments and different species. Moreover, you may have the opportunity to admire a herd of Camargue horses living in a wild state in the areas surrounding the river’s mouth. MISCELLANEOUS

"Sapori del Golfo, Sapori di Trieste" is a gastronomic event which takes place every weekend until the end of July. There are kiosks and stands that offer fish and seafood specialties from the Golf of Trieste. You can enjoy your meal on the terrace and there is also live music and entertainment at night. The venue is at the Mercato Ittico - area ex-Gaslini close to the Torri d'Europa shopping Centre in via Svevo  (Bus 8). Open on Saturdays 18:00 - 24:00 and Sundays 12:00 - 24:00


For adults and children:
learn more about marine life with lectures and guided tours organized by the Marine Reserve of Miramare and WWF. This Sun 23 May, there will be 2 appointments at 10:30 and at 15:30 on the topic "Tempo di fioriture... marine" (marine flowering). Meeting point at the "Castelletto" inside the Miramare Park. "The Evolution of an idea" at the Immaginario Scientifico in collaboration with WWF Italy,
(Riva Massimiliano e Carlotta 15, in Grignano beneath the Adriatico Guest House). The exhibition presents multivision projections on themes related to Darwin's theory of evolution from the origins of species to biodiversity, on genetics and the mechanisms of reproduction, on natural selection and biodiversity. Next week: "CANTINE APERTE' ON 29 AND 30 MAY, "OPEN CELLARS DAY"
is a major wine event in the Region with 130 wine producers opening their cellars to the public. Visitors have the opportunity to tour vineyards and explore cellars, taste wines and learn many interesting facts about the techniques of wine making. The programme is rounded off with art exhibitions, concerts and cultural events and tasting of local delicacies in the cellars. On this occasion there will be a special "Wine Bus" on 30 May departing from the parking area opposite the Sala Tripcovich close to the Train Station. A wine specialist for the tour will accompany you. The programme includes a visit to 4 important wine producers and wine tasting in their cellars. Departure time is fixed at 9:30 and return to Trieste will be at around 19:00. The total fee for the tour is 35 euro, which also includes a hot meal at the Trattoria La Bellanotte.
