CLASSICAL MUSIC

Opera at the Trieste Verdi Theatre: Madame Butterfly by Puccini performances TONIGHT and 8 and 9 May. There is a 50% reduction on tickets purchased "last minute" (one hour before the show) for all performances directly at the Verdi's ticket office. Classical music concert at the Revoltella Museum: I "Concerti delle Cinque" (the five o'clock concert),
in via Diaz 27-  close to piazza Venezia (bus 8),  on Sat 8 May at 17:00 organized by the Scuola Superiore Internazionale di Musica da Camera Trio di Trieste. A duo concert for piano and violoncello with music by Strauss, followed by the Prysma Quintet playing music by Schuman. http://www.museorevoltella.it

organized by the Association Friedrich Schiller. At the Sala Beethoven in via Coroneo 15, 2nd floor. Opera music with Elia Macri and Mate Gal, music and songs by Levi, Beethoven and Schubert.

(behind Piazza Unità) on  Sunday 9 May and 16 May at 10:30 with the Lions Choir Singers.


JAZZ AT THE MIELA "Le Nuove Rotte del Jazz 2010":
Ibrahim Maalouf from Lebanon on Sat 8 May at 21:30. This talented musician plays a special trumpet created especially to produce special sounds, typical of Oriental music.

ART & EXHIBITIONS

Exhibition at the Duino Castle until 15 Nov "The Emperor at Duino" with more than 400 objects with the image of the Emperor Franz Joseph, the Habsburg family and the alliance with Wilhelm II of Prussia. You may also like to visit the exhibition of musical instruments, the Orpheon collection ongoing until Nov 1. ICTP badge holders pay a discounted amount of euro 4,50 for entrance to the Castle. You may also visit the oldest part of the Castle and the "Dama Bianca" rock open for the first time to the pubic and recently restored. Reservation is necessary. GUIDED TOURS

Two free guided tours in Italian organized by the Marine Reserve of Miramare and WWF on Sat 8 May from 8:30 - 11:30: "Conoscere il Carso Costiero" and on Sunday 9 at the Casteletto inside the Miramare park from 9:00 - 11:00: "Marine Bird Watching" for adults and children to learn more about nature and marine life and environment. Carsiana Botanical Garden in Sgonico
is open Tue – Fri 10:00 /13:00, Sat and Sun (and holidays) 10:00- 13:00/ 15:00 – 19:00. It will be open on Sat 1 May. Take bus 46 from Piazza Oberdan and then reach Sgonico by buses 42 or 44. The Sartorio Museum is an ancient 18th century Villa of noble Genovese origins. There will be a guided tour of the Villa ongoing every Sunday until 13 June starting at 10:30. You may visit the Villa's beautiful rooms with its antique furniture and learn about the history of Trieste through the lives of the Sartorio family members. The museum has a number of important art collections such as the Tiepolo Veneziano works and more recently those of Fittke. There will also be a free-guided tour of the museum for children aged 6 -11 (the guides will talk about the lives of the Sartorio children in the 1800s) followed by an art workshop for children aged 6 -11 every Sunday at 10:30.

One man show comedy "Bravomabasta!" by Andro Merkù, a famous Triestine comedian-showman, author and radio presenter.  Venue:  Cafe' Rossetti (inside the Rossetti theatre in Viale XX settembre),  tonight and on 19 May at 22:00. Entrance ticket euro 10.


Trieste Magica

NodoDocFest is an international film Festival for documentaries which will be held at the Ariston Cinema, , via R. Gessi 14 (bus 30) with screenings every day this week until 10 May. See complete programme: http://www.nododocfest.org


MISCELLANEOUS

"Majenca" Spring Festival in San Dorligo della Valle from 6 to 11 May. This is a typical spring festival celebrated the first week of May in the carsic villages close to the Val Rosandra Valley in the San Dorligo area. The word "maj" comes from Slovene and designates the "May Tree" which is planted in the Middle of the village square and decorated with ribbons and fruits to celebrate the beginning of spring. There will be kiosks, music with local bands. There will also be a wine and olive oil fair of local producers with stands for wine and olive oil tasting and other local food delicacies. You may reach San Dorligo by bus 40 from the Train Station to  Bagnoli  where there will be an ongoing shuttle bus from 19:00 - 01:00 on Sat and Sun to reach the main sites.  For more info check: http://www.majenca.com


"Sapori della Tradizione"
is a special gastronomic event held every year in the city's centre in Piazza Goldoni with special kiosks with food specialties from the Region with music and entertainment ongoing until Sunday 9 May and organized by the Associazione Pro-loco di Trieste.


"The Evolution of an idea" at the Immaginario Scientifico in collaboration with WWF Italy,
(Riva Massimiliano e Carlotta 15, in Grignano beneath the Adriatico Guest House). The exhibition presents multivision projections on themes related to Darwin's theory of evolution from the origins of species to biodiversity, on genetics and the mechanisms of reproduction, on natural selection and biodiversity. The exhibition is ongoing until 30 May, open only Sundays 10:00 - 20:00. Check: http:// www.immaginarioscientifico.it.


"CANTINE APERTE' ON 29 AND 30 MAY, "OPEN CELLARS DAY"
is a major wine event in the Region with 130 wine producers opening their cellars to the public. Visitors have the opportunity to tour vineyards and explore cellars, taste wines and learn many interesting facts about the techniques of wine making. The programme is rounded off with art exhibitions, concerts and cultural events and tasting of local delicacies in the cellars. On this occasion there will be a special "Wine Bus" on 30 May departing from the parking area opposite the Sala Tripcovich close to the Train Station. You will be accompanied by a wine specialist. The programme includes a visit to 4 important wine producers and wine tasting in their cellars. Departure time is fixed at 9:30 and return to Trieste will be at around 19:00. The total fee for the tour is 35 euro, which also includes a hot meal at the Trattoria La Bellanotte. Pre-booking is necessary before 21 May by calling: 0432 289540.
