THE MIELA "Le Nuove Rotte del Jazz 2010": Ibrahim Maalouf from Lebanon on
Sat 8 May at 21:30. This talented musician plays a special trumpet
created
especially to produce special sounds, typical of Oriental music. Maalouf lives

ART & EXHIBITIONS
Exhibition at the Duino
Castle until 15 Nov "The
Emperor at Duino" with more than 400
objects with the image of the Emperor Franz Joseph, the Habsburg family
and the
alliance with Wilhelm II of Prussia. You may also like to visit
the exhibition of musical instruments, the Orpheon collection
ongoing until Nov 1. ICTP badge holders pay a discounted amount of

4,50 for entrance to the Castle. You may also visit the oldest part of
the
Castle and the "Dama Bianca" rock open for the first time to the

The
Sartorio
Museum is an
ancient 18th century Villa of
noble Genovese origins. There will be a guided tour of the Villa
ongoing every
Sunday until 13 June starting at 10:30. You may visit the Villa's
beautiful
rooms with its antique furniture and learn about the history of Trieste
through
the lives of the Sartorio family members. The museum has a number of
important
art collections such as the Tiepolo Veneziano works and more recently
those of
Fittke. There will also be a
free-guided tour of the museum for children aged 6
-11 (the guides will talk about the lives of the Sartorio children in
the
1800s) followed by an art workshop for children aged 6 -11 every Sunday
at
10:30.

One man show comedy "Bravomabasta!" by Andro Merkù, a famous Triestine comedian-showman, author and radio presenter. Venue: Cafe' Rossetti (inside the Rossetti theatre in Viale XX settembre), tonight and on 19 May at 22:00. Entrance ticket euro 10.
Trieste Magica magicians with
Valerio Cappellini from ICTP present an incredibly
entertaining show at the "Casa delle Culture" on Sat 8 May at 17:30 in

international film Festival for documentaries which will be held at the

MISCELLANEOUS
"Majenca" Spring Festival in San
Dorligo della Valle from 6 to 11 May. This is a
typical spring festival celebrated the first week of May in the carsic
villages
close to the Val Rosandra Valley in the San Dorligo area. The word
"maj" comes from Slovene and designates the "May Tree"
which is planted in the Middle of the village square and decorated with
ribbons
and fruits to celebrate the beginning of spring. There will be kiosks,
music with
local bands. There will also be a wine and olive oil fair of local
producers
with stands for wine and olive oil tasting and other local food
delicacies. You
may reach San Dorligo by bus 40 from the Train Station to Bagnoli where there will be
an ongoing shuttle bus from 19:00 - 01:00
on Sat and Sun to reach the main sites. For

"Sapori della Tradizione" is a special gastronomic event held every
year in the city's centre in Piazza Goldoni with special kiosks with
food
specialties from the Region with music and entertainment ongoing until
Sunday 9
May and organized by the Associazione Pro-loco di Trieste.
"The Evolution of
an idea" at the Immaginario Scientifico in collaboration with WWF
Italy, (Riva Massimiliano e Carlotta 15, in
Grignano beneath
the Adriatico Guest House). The exhibition presents multivision
projections on
themes related to Darwin's theory of evolution from the origins of
species to
biodiversity, on genetics and the mechanisms of reproduction, on
natural
selection and biodiversity. The exhibition is ongoing until 30 May,
open only

"CANTINE
APERTE' ON 29 AND 30 MAY, "OPEN CELLARS DAY"
is a major wine event in the Region with 130 wine
producers opening their cellars to the public. Visitors have the
opportunity to
tour vineyards and explore cellars, taste wines and learn many
interesting
facts about the techniques of wine making. The programme is rounded off
with
art exhibitions, concerts and cultural events and tasting of local
delicacies
in the cellars. On this occasion there
will be a special "Wine Bus" on 30 May departing from the parking
area opposite the Sala Tripcovich close to the Train Station. You will
be
accompanied by a wine specialist. The programme includes a visit to 4
important
wine producers and wine tasting in their cellars. Departure time is
fixed at
9:30 and return to Trieste will be at around 19:00. The total fee for
the tour
is 35 euro, which also includes a hot meal at the Trattoria La
Bellanotte.
