LA "BAVISELA"Marathon
is an important sport event held every year in Trieste and will take place on Sunday 2 May. It is a 41 km European Marathon from Gradisca to Trieste. There will be important marathon runners competing at a high international level. On the same day two minor marathons will take place as well: The “Two-Castles Marathon" a 21 km race from the Duino Castle to San Giusto in Trieste and finally a 7 km non-competitive marathon from Miramare to Piazza Unità, open to anybody wishing to participate (check the website here below). Starting today, there is a rich programme with side events and sports with collateral races such as a Kid's marathon, a Ski-Roll competition, a sailing regatta in the Gulf of Trieste, motor bike exhibitions, kiosks on the Rive selling all kinds of sports items and music entertainment in Piazza Unità. CLASSICAL MUSIC

Opera at the Trieste Verdi Theatre: Madame Butterfly by Puccini starting on Friday 30 April with performances on 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 May. There is a 50% reduction on tickets purchased "last minute" (one hour before the show) for all performances directly at the Verdi's ticket office. Free concert tonight at 18:00,  "Sulle Ali dell’Operetta"
at the Sala Beethoven in via Coroneo 15, 2nd floor, organized by the Associazione Friedrich Schiller with the choir of the "Università 3 Età'" directed by Maestro Lucio Verzier, music by Lehar, Strauss jr and other composers. 


JAZZ AT THE MIELA "Le Nuove Rotte del Jazz 2010" ONGOING until 8 May
presents a number of important international musicians and groups. This week's programme: "Trio Elf' on Friday 30 April, a group from Germany who plays jazz music revisited with drums, bass, house, dub step and Hip-Hop. ART & EXHIBITIONS

All museums will be open on Saturday 1 May.

 

Exhibition at the Duino Castle until 15 Nov "The Emperor at Duino" with more than 400 objects with the image of the Emperor Franz Joseph, the Habsburg family and the alliance with Wilhelm II of Prussia. You may also like to visit the exhibition of musical instruments, the Orpheon collection ongoing until Nov 1. ICTP badge holders pay euro 4,50 for entrance to the Castle. You may also visit the oldest part of the Castle and the "Dama Bianca" rock open for the first time to the pubic and recently restored, only euro 2/pers. GUIDED TOURS

Carsiana Botanical Garden in Sgonico is open Tue – Fri 10:00 /13:00, Sat and Sun (and holidays) 10:00- 13:00/ 15:00 – 19:00. It will be open on Sat 1 May. Take bus 46 from Piazza Oberdan and then reach Sgonico by buses 42 or 44. Tours may be organized for a minimum of 8 persons in English, Slovene and German. The Sartorio Museum is an ancient 18th century Villa of noble Genovese origins. There will be a guided tour of the Villa ongoing every Sunday until 13 June starting at 10:30 You may visit the Villa's beautiful rooms with its antique furniture and learn about the history of Trieste through the lives of the Sartorio family members. The museum has a number of important art collections such as the Tiepolo Veneziano works and more recently those of Fittke. There will also be a free-guided tour of the museum for children aged 6 -11 (the guides will talk about the lives of the Sartorio children in the 1800s) followed by an art workshop for children aged 6 -11 every Sunday at 10:30. MISCELLANEOUS

"Aperitivi Scientifici" organized by the SISSA students tonight at Bar Knulp at 19:30 is an informal talk given by Silvia Benavides from the cognitive neuroscience department on children's learning skills, memory, language. The talk is in Italian and entitled: "Senti chi parla, linguaggio, memoria e apprendimento nei bambini".


"The Evolution of an idea" at the Immaginario Scientifico in collaboration with WWF Italy,
(Riva Massimiliano e Carlotta 15, in Grignano beneath the Adriatico Guest House). The exhibition presents multivision projections on themes related to Darwin's theory of evolution from the origins of species to biodiversity, on genetics and the mechanisms of reproduction, on natural selection and biodiversity.
