Special guided tour to
SAN DANIELE DEL FRIULI
and THE MOSAICS SCHOOL OF SPILIMBERGO
SPILIMBERGO
Spilimbergo is the mosaic art capital of Friuli Venezia
Giulia, with a school that is a unique point of reference throughout
the world and
a leading edge institute in terms of both techniques and materials.
The school draws on
time-honoured artistic traditions
originating from Aquileia, Bisanzio and Venice. Spilimbergo
stone-cutters
and floor-layers were working in Venice from as early as the end of the
1600s.
San Daniele is one of the ‘pearls’ of Friuli Venezia Giulia, known internationally for its smoked trout and above all for the inimitable taste of the ham it has been producing for centuries, with the help of a unique micro-climate.
The Guarneriana Library in San Daniele, with its precious illuminated manuscripts, is one of the most prestigious libraries in Italy and the oldest in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The dazzling white of the eighteenth century cathedral and the frescoes of the deconsecrated church of Sant’Antonio Abate, the most beautiful Renaissance fresco cycle in the region, have earned San Daniele the name of “Friuli’s little Siena”.
The
discounted
contribution requested for the guided tour is euro 5,00/person.
