 CLASSICAL MUSIC

Miela Theatre in Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi: Piano Festival at the Miela on Sat 6 March at 21:00 with Eugheny Brakhman, a famous Russian pianist on the international scene who has won numerous international music awards.  He will be playing music by Rachmaninov and Scriabin. Free concert: "Brandenburgerischen Konzerte" a piano recital  at the Tartini Music Conservatory on Friday 5 March at 20:30 with Teresa Trevisan and Flavio Zaccaria, music by Bach and Reger.

The Verdi Orchestra
performs at the Sala Tripcovich in Piassa Libertà on Sat 6 March at 20:30. The Orchestra will be directed by Mario Brunello with the following programme: "Le Metamorfosi" music by Richard Strauss, "Lontano per Grandi Orchestre by Gyorgy Ligeti and "Morning Prayers per Orchestra da Camera e Nastro Magnetico" by the Georgian composer Giya Kancheli.


Forthcoming programme:  Next week on Thursday 11 March at the Sala Tripcovich at 21:00 there will be

"Cabaret Magico"  on Sunday 7 March at 18:00 with Trieste Magica!

Seventy-five minutes of a perfect mix between Magic and Comedy with Valerio Cappellini and the Trieste Magica Magicians! The show, part of the "La Rassegna di Primavera: Magia, Emozioni, Equivoci" organized by TeatroIncontro, is made possible thanks to the contribution of the "Associazione FITA-UILT FVG" and in cooperation with "Casa dei Teatri".It will take place at the "Centro Giovanile - Roiano" Theatre, Via dei Moreri 22, Trieste. Free admittance and seats will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.

Free Live Music every Friday starting at 21:00 at the Stazione di Servizio Valmaura Sud in the Autogrill (which is the Petrol Station situated on the outer ring or "sopraelevata" in the direction of Muggia shortly after the tunnel). There will be House and Tecno music and a number of local bands playing cover music from the 70's and 80s (Maniax, Band.it, Sunrise Band).

 

"Simon Acoustic Blues Live" at the Trieststube in Via Foscolo 3, today at 20:30. Simone Blondeau plays and sings blues from the 20s to the 60s.

 

"The Blues Followers Live"  blues band at the Lee Roy Pubb in via Paduina 9 at 21:00 on Friday 3 March.

 

ART & EXHIBITIONS

Sat 6 and Sun 7 March: Free entrance to the Miramare Castle reserved only for women on the occasion of a special initiative "Donna e Arte (Woman and Art) promoted by MiBac on the occasion of the International Day for Women celebrated on 8 March. The Miramare Castle will offer free tickets to visit its museum and a free-guided tour by the title "Donne di Franceso Hayez, Amor Romantico e Amor di Patria" (Francesco Hayez's women, Romantic love and Patriotic Love).  On both days, the  free tours start at 11:00, 12:00, 15:00 and 16:00 for a total of 25 persons per tour.


"The Evolution of an idea" at the Immaginario Scientifico in collaboration with WWF Italy
(Riva Massimiliano e Carlotta 15, in Grignano beneath the Adriatico Guest House). The exhibition presents multivision projections on themes related to Darwin's theory of evolution from the origins of species to biodiversity, on genetics and the mechanisms of reproduction, on natural selection and biodiversity. Ongoing Exhibition until 7 March: "The Age of Coubert and Monet" at Villa Manin di Passariano in the province of Udine.
The exhibition presents 120 masterpieces by Corot, Courbet, Monet, Manet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Ensor, Kandinsky and Malevich testifying the diffusion of realism and naturalism in Central and Eastern Europe. The paintings come from European and American museums and European private collections. You may also like to visit the outstanding 17th century Villa that was occupied by Napoleon in the 18th century during his Italian military campaigns. Entrance fee to the exhibition is euro 10. You can reach Villa Main by taking the train to Udine and getting off in Codroipo, then take bus to Passariano. By car: Highway A4 from Trieste - exit Latisana and follow road signs to Codroipo. "Mila e la Notte", an exhibition of famous fashion designer Mila Schön
who passed away a year ago. The exhibition displays 63 unique high-fashion dresses from the 1960s. The exhibit is open daily from 10:00 - 20:00 at the Salone degli Incanti, Riva Nazario Sauro  (close to Piazza Unità), bus 8. Entrance fee euro 3. Ongoing until 18 March. MISCELLANEOUS

"Science Aperitive" at Bar Knulp on Friday 5 march at 19:30 organized by the SISSA students and the gruppo Volontieri. These are informal scientific roundtables aiming at discussions on recent scientific issues in an informal place. The theme of the evening will be: "La proteina rampante - Anche mucche - e non solo - impazziscono" with an introduction by Barbara Sanavio of the Statistical Physics and Biology department of SISSA.


"Olio Capitale - Olive Oil fair" at the Fiera di Trieste from 5 - 8 March  in Piazzale de Gasperi 1 (
opening hours 10:00 - 19:00 - buses 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22)). The event’s main goal is to build wider knowledge about extra-vergin olive oil and its characteristics. There will be a number of local and national oil producing firms, stands with displays of cosmetics based on olive oil, and many side events with cooking lessons by local chefs giving their recipes and tips, stands for oil tasting and shopping.  For a complete programme see: http://www.oliocapitale.it


Ski in the Region:
for those of you who would like to ski or just visit the ski resorts in the Region, there is a wide choice: Piancavallo, Zoncolan, Tarvisio, Sella Nevea or Forni di Sopra. You may rent skis and boots on the spot but not ski suits. There is also a new bus service from Udine Central Bus station that will take you to Tarvisio or Sella Nevea.
