MUSIC AND SHOWS

Opera at the Verdi theatre of Trieste (close to Piazza Unità, in Riva 3 novembre, nr 1) "Maria Stuarda", (Mary Stuart) from 22 - 30 January, music by Donizetti. There is a 50% reduction on tickets purchased "last minute" (one hour before the show) for all performances directly at the Verdi's ticket office. Free play
on Thurs 21 Jan at 18:00: "Madama, Non Spero Altro Regno" (Madam, I hope for no other kingdom) with actress Sara Alzetta at the Ridotto del Verdi. The play is in Italian and based on the story of Mary Stuart and related to the ongoing Opera.

FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL 21 - 28 January

Trieste Film Festival is the main film event for Central-European film productions. There will be 12 films competing for the Trieste Film Award as well as documentaries and short films. The films will be projected at the Miela Theatre and Ariston Cinema. The opening ceremony will take place tonight, Thurs 21 Jan at the Miela Theatre (Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi 3) with the film "Honeymoons" by Goran Paskaljevic. On Fri 22, a documentary: "How the Beatles Rocked the Kremlin", and on Sat 23 a Russian Musical, Stilyagi". The closing ceremony will take place at the Ariston Cinema (Viale Romolo Gessi 14 - bus 8) on 28 Jan with one of the most important French and International actresses, Fanny Ardant, who will meet the public before the screening of the film directed by her "Ashes and Blood", a French-Rumanian co-production. "Catodica"
is an international video art festival organized by the Associazione Culturale Fucine Mute organized alongside the Trieste Film Festival from 21 to 28 January. For more info check locations of projections and programme: http://www.catodica.it


ART AND EXHIBITIONS

Today at 19:00: Inauguration of solo art show by female artist Megi Pepeu at the Slovenian theatre in via Petronio 4. The show will be open until 15 March, Mondays to Fridays, from 10:00-17:00.


"Mila e la Notte", an exhibition of famous fashion designer Mila Schön
who passed away a year ago. The exhibition displays 63 unique high-fashion dresses from the 1960s. The exhibit is open daily from 10:00 - 20:00 at the Salone degli Incanti, Riva Nazario Sauro  (close to Piazza Unità), bus 8. Entrance fee euro 3,00. Ongoing until 18 March. A Darwin 2009 exhibit at ICTP -
ICTP's ongoing exhibit at the Leonardo building on Darwin and evolution, celebrating the bicentennial of Darwin' s birth. Details are described at http://events.ictp.it/ictp/darwin-evoluzione-e-scienza.


In Gorizia there are 3 interesting futurist art exhibitions.
Futurism was an artistic and social movement that originated in Italy in the early 20th century. 

1) Futurismo Giuliano: Gli anni trenta, Omaggio a Tullio Crali - Castle of Gorizia, open till 28 February, Tuesdays through Sundays, 10:00-19:00. For info: 0481535146.
