MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT

Symphony Music Season at the Verdi Theatre of Trieste: Last concert of the season on Fri 23 Oct at 20:30 and Sat 24 Oct at 18:00, Schumann (Nachtlied) and Gustav Mahler (Symphony n.5), directed by Stefan Anton Reck.  For the Saturday performances only, there is a 50% reduction on tickets purchased "last minute" (one hour before the show) directly at the Verdi's ticket office. Latin American Film Festival at the Miela Theatre

"Mattinate Musicali at the Revoltella Museum" every Sunday from October to March in the Auditorium at 11:00. Entrance ticket to the Museum + concert + refreshments is euro 6,00.
Please purchase your ticket half an hour before the concert in order to find a seat as it is on a first-come first-served basis. Refreshments and drinks will be offered to the audience and to the musicians after the show! Via Diaz 27, bus 8 or 30 from Train Station, bus 9 or 10 from Piazza Goldoni.

Organ Itineraries: A series of concerts performed in churches during the autumn season. Sunday 25 Oct at 18:00 in the Chiesa Nostra Signora di Sion in via don Minzoni nr. 7. This week concert for trombone and organ, music by Fetch, Walter, Risotto, Vivaldi, Lemans, Gillman and Bruckner. "Appetitive in Musical - Musical Aperitif" at the Auditorium of the United World College in Duino every Sunday of October at 11:00 with young talented musicians performing as soloists or as an ensemble. The concerts are free. Following the concert, refreshments will be served. Apt bus 51 to Duino.

 

TOURS

The association "Curiosi di Natura" is offering a number of free-organized guided tours in the Carso on the occasion of the event taking place in Oct and Nov "Sapori del Carso - Flavours of the karst". Each tour will be centered on a specific theme and will be focusing on certain aspects of the Carso. The excursions are all by foot and last around 3 hours (9:30 - 12:30). At the end of each excursion there is the possibility of eating out in one of the "Trattorias" of the Carso that are taking part in this initiative. You will be given a 10% discount on the food at the following trattorias: Daneu and Veto in Opicina, Krizman in Monrupino, Gustin in Sgonico, Risto Bar Grotta in Borgo Grotta Gigante, Il Petirosso and La Lampara in S. Croce and Sardoc in Precenico.

Sunday 25 Oct: Trip to Mount Lanaro. The tour (mainly in Italian, but the guide also speaks English) will be centered on discovering the fruits and plants of the Carso, their botanical characteristics, their history and legends. Meeting point at 9:15 in Sgonico's main Piazza/Square. Take bus 46 from piazza Oberdan. Booking is necessary. MISCELLANEOUS

"Notti Galileiane" (Galilean Nights) from  Thurs 22 Oct - Sat 24 Oct:  On the occasion of the Interntional Year of Astonomy, the Astonomical Observatory of Basovizza is organizing a series of free tours for adults and for children to observe the sky and the stars at the following times: 20:00, 21:00 and 22:00 for a duration of 40 minutes.  For info and booking, contact the OATS from 9:00 - 12:00 tel: 040 3199241


EVENTS OUTSIDE TRIESTE

"Festa della Zucca" (Pumpkin Festival) in Venzone in the Province of Udine on 24 and 25 Oct. The centre of this medieval town will be full of musicians, jugglers and artists. There will be pumpkins everywhere and a contest for the best-carved pumpkins. The town will be illuminated at night with torches as during the Middle Ages. Inns and taverns will serve specialties based on pumpkin. You can reach Venzone by train.


"Jazz & Wine of Peace"
Festival in Cormons in the Province of Gorizia 22- 25 Oct. There will be theatre concerts (in the local Teatro Comunale), aperitif concerts around the town, "Round Midnight" jazz nights and much more. For a complete programme check: http://www.controtempo.org/
