SPECIAL EVENT: RESEARCHERS' NIGHT tomorrow, FRIDAY 25
SEPTEMBER!
Researcher's
night (Notte dei Ricercatori) is a major science festival for the
public that
will take place for the first time in Trieste on Friday 25 September in
Piazza
Unità and other nearby buildings from 16:30 to 23:00. The event aims at
sharing
with the public the many exciting activities that ICTP, along with
Trieste's
other research and educational institutes and is meant for all age
groups.
Centred in Piazza Unita' and other closeby locations (Camera di
Commercio,
Verdi hall entrance, Sala Matrimoni, etc.), here are some of the
activities
organized on that day:
- Popular
science discussion forums (Street and Science PROSIT) coordinated by
Sandro Scandolo,
will be held in the Camera di Commercio building (Piazza della Borsa,
14) and
will feature ICTP scientists: K.
Aoudia, J. Chela Flores, P. Creminelli, S. Luzzato, C. Piani, A. Scardicchio, and scientists
belonging to other institutions - Ictp will share a large gazebo with
other
institutions to demonstrate scientific experiments with Carlo Fonda and
there
will be films, games involving scientists and the public such as ping
pong or
mini-football, orienteering in the nearby streets, a karate exhibition,
a
digital art exhibit in hotel Savoia. Flight adventures (volo di
Miyazaki) will
take place in Sala del Torchio, via Capitelli, 8 (close to the Casa
della
Musica) and a catering laboratory on "Scientific Take-Away" by a chef
will be held in a stand in Piazza Unità.
- Marine and
astronomy observation from the sea on board the "Delfino Verde"
ferryboat with biologists, oceanographers and astronomers.
- Live music
in Piazza Unità will start at 6:30 pm with 4 different bands
coordinated by
ICTP's Joe Niemela (with musicians who work in various scientific
institutions). The bands are: Chirike' (6:30-7:15), Blooby Blues Band
All-Stars
with Joe Niemela (19:30 - 20:15), Suny Boy and the Diplomats of Blues
(20:30 -
21:30), Stefano Franco and the Fluid Horns (22:00 - 23:00). The Tartini
conservatory will present pianist Massimo GON who will play pieces of
Chopin in
the hall of the Camera di Commercio.

EXHIBITIONS
Solo photography exhibition "Le
Vele di Franco Pace" by Franco
Pace at Salone degli
Incanti, Riva Nazario Sauro, 1. There are many beautiful, blown up
sailing
photographs of one of the most famous photographers of the kind with
outstanding
views. Open until 18 October, 10:00 - 21:00. Free
admittance.
Solo photography
exhibition by artist Qing Yue at
Muggia, Porto San Rocco, Sala Congressi entitled "Body".
The artist presents a series of six large
photographs (120 x 120 cm.) of models with body painting. Open until 25
September, every day, 9:00-12:30 / 14:00 - 18:00.
Ongoing exhibition at the Revoltella Museum is: Leonor
Fini "L'Italienne de Paris",
an Argentine surrealist painter who lived in Trieste in the early
part of
her life and subsequently moved to Paris
(1907 - 1996). The exhibition presents a huge collection of 150
works
coming from important museums and private Italian, French and American
collections, illustrating different periods of the artist's works. Open

"Genti di San Spiridione. I Serbi a
Trieste 1751 - 1914" (the history of the Serb Minority in Trieste)
in
collaboration with the General Consulate of Serbia, the religious
Serb-Orthodox
community of Trieste and the History and Art Museums of Trieste.
Ongoing until
4 November, at the San Giusto Castle.
MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT
Symphony Music Season at the Verdi
Theatre of Trieste with a series of 8 concerts.
This week's program music by Weber,
Paganini and Dvorak, directed by Moshe Atzmon: Fri 25 Sept at 20:30 and
Sat 26
Sept at 18:00.

Two classical Music Concerts at the Miramare Castle in the Throne Room: On Friday 25 Sept, there will be the last concert of the season organized by the Tartini Conservatory. Ticket cost € 4,00 payable directly at the ticket office of the Castle entrance on a first-come first-served basis. Be there at least half an hour before the show starts. at 20:30 with the Glasbena Matica
orchestra playing music by

music and dances from Tibet performed by 11 Buddhist monks from the

Free Entrance to the Miramare Castle (9:00 - 19:00) and free
guided
tours only this Sat 26 Sept and Sunday 27 Sept on the occasion of the
European
Day for Culture: at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and
16:00, there will be guided tours on the
history of scientific explorations and geographical discoveries at the
time of
the Habsburgs and at 17:00 there will be a guided tour on Canaletto’s
works of

Free
Entrance to San Gusto Castle in Trieste this weekend on the occasion of
the European Day for Culture. Upon request you may also ask for
earphone sets

Guided Tour on foot of Trieste’s historical

Carsiana Botanical Gardens has a special guided tour on Sun
27 Sept at
16:00: "La poesia del Carso" (Poetry of the
Carso). The botanical guided tour will be
accompanied by a recital of poems on the Carso by famous Italian and
foreign
poets such as Saba, Ungaretti, Slataper, Svevo, Rilke, Kosovel, Jan
Morris,
Susanna Tamaro. Entrance fee: euro
