Special Evening at ICTP TONIGHT:  Dinner and Opera Music at the Leonardo Building

Two professional opera singers from the Verdi Theatre of Trieste, soprano Loredana Pellizari and tenor Massimo Marsi accompanied on the piano by Maestro Corrado Gulin, will sing melodies from La Bohème, La Traviata, Turandot, airs from Operettas and Evergreens.  All our visitors, scientists and staff are welcome, free entrance.

On the occasion, there will be a special dinner from 7 - 8:30 pm (as usual) at the Leonardo Building Cafeteria with the Chef's selection of special dishes from Verdi's and Puccini's hometowns. The dinner can be paid with half a meal voucher. Fot those who do not have meal vouchers, the cost is 6,50 euro/person. Desert and drinks will be charged as usual.


SPECIAL EVENT:
RESEARCHERS' NIGHT on FRIDAY 25 SEPTEMBER

ICTP, along with Trieste's other research and educational institutes, will participate in a major science festival for the public in 2 weeks' time:  Friday, 25 September in Trieste.

Known as "Researchers' Night 2009", the event offers a number of activities aimed at bringing science and scientists to the general public. Centred around Piazza Unita', it will include popular science discussion forums featuring several ICTP scientists, science demonstrations, films, games, an art exhibit, and live music by musically gifted researchers, including ICTP's own Joe Niemela.

EXHIBITIONS

Inauguration of a solo art show of the artist Enzo Pituello in Via Lazzaretto Vecchio 19 at 18:30 at the Associazione Linea d'Arte, "Le Autostrade della Memoria". The artist will present his latest works  many of them shown at the Biennale of Venice in 2006. Open Mon - Fri 17:00 - 20:00 and Sat 10:00 - 13:00. Info: 337 549346.

:  "ONTHESOFA" by Tommaso Lizzul at the Libreria Knulp in Via Madonna del Mare 7/a, inauguration on Thurs 10 September at 19:00.


Photography exhibition: Museo Carà-Kartell-Triestefotografia
the Museo Ugo Carà in Muggia. A selection of 150 photographs from the Kartell Art collection of pieces of furniture and objects chosen and designed by Kartell and put in a different perspective by famous artists and famous photographers such as David Lachapelle, Karl Lagerfeld, Peter Lindbergh, Helmut Newton, Ranjit Grewal to mention a few. The exhibition is open from Tues - Sun 18:30 - 20:30, Thurs 10:00 - 12:00. Bus 20 to Muggia or Ferryboat.


Ongoing exhibition at the Revoltella Museum is: Leonor Fini "L'Italienne de Paris", an Argentine surrealist painter who lived in Trieste in the early part of her life and subsequently moved to Paris  (1907 - 1996). The exhibition presents a huge collection of 150 works coming from important museums and private Italian, French and American collections, illustrating different periods of the artist's works. "Genti di San Spiridione. I Serbi a Trieste 1751 - 1914" (the history of the Serb Minority in Trieste) in collaboration with the General Consulate of Serbia, the religious Serb-Orthodox community of Trieste and the History and Art Museums of Trieste. Ongoing until 4 November, at the San Giusto Castle.

 

 

MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT

 

Opening of the Symphony Music Season at the Verdi Theatre of Trieste with a series of 8 concerts.

The opening concert of the Verdi Symphony Orchestra directed by Gerard Korsten is music from Mendelsshon Bartholdy and Tchaikovsky on  Fri 11 Sept  at 20:30 and Sat  12 Sept at 18:00.

There is a 50% reduction on tickets purchased "last minute" (one hour before the show) only for the Saturday performances directly at the Verdi's ticket office.  For more info on program and tickets, check: http://www.teatroverdi-trieste.com

 

Classical Music Concert in the Miramare Castle Throne Room every Friday at 20:30, organized by the Tartini Conservatory of Trieste. Ticket cost € 4,00 payable directly at the ticket office of the Castle entrance on a first-come first-served basis. Be there at least half an hour before the show starts.

On the occasion of the Jewish Day of Culture, there will be a concert in the open-air in the parking area of the ex Bianchi Swimming Pool (near the Salone degli Incanti) after Piazza Unita'. Antonella Ruggero, an Italian singer will sing Jewish lieders from various repertoires. The Sistiana Bay is open during the summer each day from 23:00. You can get to Sistiana with the airport bus 51 and walk down to the bay or take bus 44 from Piazza Oberdan.  Bus 73 takes you down to the bay, but the last bus up is at 20.06 so be sure not to miss it unless you can cope with the steep climb back up.


FLEA MARKETS AND FAIRS

Muggia: on Sunday 13 Sept from 8:00 to sunset there will be a flea market in Piazza della Repubblica organized by the associazione "Cose di Vecchie Case". For more info call: 339 7495333.


RECORDS, CDs and DVDs second hand and collectors' items at the "Mostra Mercato del Disco" on Sun 13 Sept
, all day at the Palasport di Chiarbola, near the Torri d'Europa Shopping Centre. Bus 8. Check http://musicalibera.it. There will be live music in the area outside the Palazzetto at night.

 

TOURS

Carsiana Botanical Gradens has a new initiative on Sun 13 Sept at 16:00: "La poesia del Carso" ( Poetry of the Carso). The guided tour will be accompanied by a recital of poems on the Carso by famous Italian and foreign poets such as Saba, Ungaretti, Slataper, Svevo, Rilke, Kosovel, Jan Morris, Susanna Tamaro.  Entrance fee: euro 3,00. The botanical guided tour will be conducted by Barbara Bassi and Prof. Anna Pettener. A similar one will be held on 27 Sept. You can reach Carsiana in Sgnonico by bus 46 from Piazza Oberdan.
