EVENT: "LA BARCOLANA" 4 October – 12 October
The
most famous sailing regatta in the Mediterranean Sea will take place
for the 40th
time in the Gulf
of Trieste this
Sunday 12
October, at 10:00, with over 1500 boats taking part. It
is really a unique sight to watch either
from the sea front near Barcola, or from a higher vantage point, such
as the
Napoleonica path overlooking town. There will also be a number of side
events, live
music each evening in Piazza Unità, kiosks and stands on the “rive”,
sea
promenade in front of Piazza Unità, offering different kinds of sailing
products, clothes, gastronomy. Check:

exhibition at the Civico Museo del Mare
in via Campo Marzio 5. “I Cosulich:
una dinastia adriatica”, tracing
the history of the great local shipping family.

Grotta
Gigante – Giant
Cave
This
year the Grotta Gigante, the largest tourist cave in the world, is
celebrating
it’s centenary of opening to the public with an exhibition until 31
December in
the visitor’s centre open 10-18 daily except Monday. Visits
to the cave itself take place every
hour from 10-16. Take bus 42 from Piazza
Oberdan and get off at Borgo Grotta Sgonico.
It takes 5mins on foot, following the signs, to reach the cave.

Vittoria – Lighthouse visits
Trieste’s
lighthouse in Strada del Friuli has just re-opened to the public. You can visit it until March from 10-15 each
Sunday and public holidays.

Botanico Carsiana – Carsiana Botanical Garden
The
local Carsiana botanical garden is closing for the season on 15 October. This weekend it will be open from 10-13 and
