The Associates Office and ICTP Global Science Portal welcome you all to a
hybrid Associates Seminar entitled:
"From the Margins of the Indus to Global Climate Frontiers: A Personal and
Scientific Journey in Hydroclimatology”
with Dr. Mujtaba Hassan, ICTP Associate and associate professor at the
Department of Space Science, Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad,
Pakistan.
at 11am CEST, Thursday 30th July in the Stasi room, or online at:

Abstract:
In this colloquium-style seminar, I will share my journey as a
hydroclimatologist from Pakistan, reflecting on the personal milestones,
challenges, and inspirations that shaped my path, from studying physics in
Sargodha to pursuing a PhD at Tsinghua University and building an
international research career. I will discuss the realities of doing
science in resource-constrained yet climate-vulnerable regions and the
transformative role of programs like the ICTP Associateship. The second
part will introduce the field of high-resolution regional climate
modelling and its critical importance for understanding and adapting to
climate extremes in complex terrains like High Mountain Asia. I will
highlight key findings from my work on the Indus Basin and South Asian
monsoon systems, emphasizing visual insights into water security, flood
risks, and policy-relevant science. The talk aims to inspire early-career
researchers while fostering connections across the ICTP community.
ICTP Associates Seminars are part personal, part scientific, with speakers
sharing their career trajectory and experiences, then introducing their
research field and work.
We look forward to seeing many of you there!
