Dear ICTP community,

*TODAY, Friday 9 May,* ICTP will be the focus of a United Nations
High-Level Event titled "Advancing Global Scientific Cooperation for
Sustainable Development: Leveraging Quantum Science for a Resilient
Future". Co-organized by the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United
Nations and UNESCO, the event will celebrate ICTP's 60th anniversary
with a series of sessions dedicated to the importance of basic science
and global science collaboration. It will be held at the UN headquarters
in New York.

The event will be livestreamed at
https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k1e/k1e3xdq04r from 15:00 - 16:40 EST.

Global scientific collaboration and knowledge exchange are at the heart
of ICTP's mission, and discussions at the event will explore leveraging
opportunities such as the International Decade of Sciences for
Sustainable Development (2024–2033) and the International Year of
Quantum Science and Technology (2025). Nobel Laureate Duncan Haldane,
who received ICTP's Dirac Medal in 2012 and whose work continues to
influence the development of quantum technologies, will give a keynote talk.

Other sessions will discuss the role of the science-policy interface in
informing policy decisions at the UN, and how research and innovations
are translated into actionable policies that address global challenges
and contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development
Goals. A panel discussion related to this theme will feature ICTP
Director Atish Dabholkar, ICTP Scientific Council member Aissa Wade, and
Professor Greg Gabadadze, Senior Vice President of Math and Physical
Sciences at the Simons Foundation.

ICTP success stories will be prominent throughout the event,
illustrating ICTP’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity in
scientific research. This includes the event moderation by Estelle
Inack, a Condensed Matter Diploma alumna from Cameroon who went on to
earn a PhD in ICTP's joint doctoral programme with SISSA and who is now
a researcher with the Perimeter Institute, and a testimonial by Raji
Ashenafi Mamade of Ethiopia, who enrolled in a PhD programme at MIT
after completing ICTP's Postgraduate Diploma Programme.

Full details of the event are available at
http://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k1e/k1e3xdq04r.
