Dear All,

You are most cordially invited to the *ICTP Colloquium* on "*Choosing to
Collide*" by *Prof. Nathaniel Craig* from the Department of Physics at
the University of California, Santa Barbara.

The Colloquium will take place today, *Wednesday 25 June 2025 in the
Budinich Lecture Hall at 14:00* hrs CET, and live-streamed.

Biosketch:

Nathaniel Craig is a full professor in the Department of Physics at the
University of California, Santa Barbara, where he works on topics in
particle theory ranging from quarks to the cosmos. He is a recipient of
an Early Career Award from the US Department of Energy and a Cottrell
Scholar Award from the Research Corporation for Science Advancement. He
currently leads the Particle Theory Initiative at the Kavli Institute
for Theoretical Physics, which seeks to strengthen research connections
both within the particle physics community and at its dynamic interface
with other fields.

Abstract:

We plan to construct the next generation of colliders because there is
new fundamental knowledge to be gained at the energy frontier —
knowledge about both the Standard Model itself and the more fundamental
theory that underlies it. I’ll survey the triumphant role of colliders
in building the Standard Model, the main open questions now facing
particle physics, and the profound motivation these questions provide
for successors to the Large Hadron Collider, from precision Higgs
factories to high-energy lepton and hadron colliders.

Light refreshments will be served after the event.
