Dear colleagues,
The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) is excited to announce its upcoming
webinar on*Combatting Predatory Academic Journals and Conferences: The
Role of Stakeholders in the Global Fight*.
In 2022, the InterAcademy Partnership published the landmark report
“Combatting predatory academic journals and conferences
<https://www.interacademies.org/project/predatorypublishing>”. This
study set out to improve the understanding of what constitutes predatory
practices, gauge their prevalence and impact, identify their root
causes, and review efforts to address them; it proposed a systemic
approach with integrative recommendations for all key stakeholders. To
continue these efforts, in 2023, IAP awarded a small grant to a
consortium comprised of three academies (Benin Young Academy of Science,
Czech Academy of Sciences, and Indian National Young Academy of
Science), entitled “Roadmap to improve ethics in science and curb
predatory publishing”, or RESCUE. The RESCUE Consortium focuses on three
distinct stakeholder groups (librarians, higher education institutes,
and policymakers), at both a local and global level. The aforementioned
stakeholders are crucial to continuing the fight against predatory
journals and conferences as they constitute the global research
ecosystem. Academies must continue to play an active role in combatting
predatory practices; however, it is vital all stakeholders engage with
and implement the recommendations, both with academy support and
independently. This webinar will provide perspectives from three local
stakeholders which informed best practices for global engagement. The
event will be recorded and summarized on the IAP website. Speakers
include Dr. Victorien Dougnon, Tereza Simova, and Dr. Kutubuddin Molla.
