Dear Colleagues,
This is to inform you that two public events involving ICTP research
scientists in the QLS section are taking place this week. They are part
of the celebrations for /JSTAT/ (Journal of Statistical Mechanics:
Theory and Experiment)'s 20th anniversary.
Both events are open to everyone and participation is free. They will be
in Italian.
* 26 November, 6 p.m. - Antico Caffè San Marco, Via Cesare Battisti
18, Trieste
/The thermodynamics of ecology: how do statistical physics and
biodiversity connect?/
In an informal Science Café, Jacopo Grilli (ICTP) will explore how
physical models, originally applied to the study of particles, can now
help us understand ecological balance and the coexistence of many
species in nature.
- 27 November, 9 p.m. - Teatrino Franco and Franca Basaglia, via
Edoardo Weiss 13, Trieste
/2387: the history of sustainable development in the memories of a blender/
The final show in the series, written by physicist Matteo Marsili (ICTP)
and performed by actresses Sara Alzetta and Daniela Gattorno, brings to
the stage a dialogue between a blender and a toaster who, equipped with
artificial intelligence, trace the history of sustainable development
with irony and surrealism. At the end of the performance, a panel
discussion will follow with Marsili and Alan Kirman, a member of the
Accademia dei Lincei and noted economist, on the issues of
sustainability and the future of our resources.
Best regards,
ICTP Public Information Office
