Today, 10 November, ICTP is celebrating World Science Day with an
exhibit of posters highlighting how its research addresses all 17 of the
UN's Strategic Development Goals (SDGs).

The exhibit will be held in the Reading Room of the Leonardo Building,
located next to the coffee bar. The posters will be on display all day.

World Science Day is celebrated every year on 10 November to encourage
dialogue between the scientific community and the general public. This
year's theme focusses on basic science, in line with the UN's 2022
International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development.

Science plays a key role in the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for
Sustainable Development, which includes 17 global goals for issues
ranging from education to climate to gender equality. As a UN-sponsored
institute, ICTP has taken these goals to heart and can proudly state
that it is contributing to all of the 17 goals. The poster exhibit
visualises those contributions.

ICTP's UN partner UNESCO will be celebrating World Science Day this year
by holding a webinar from 14:00 to 16:00 (CET) on the theme of basic
sciences for sustainable development which will be live-streamed. The
webinar will be held on the Zoom platform in English, French and
Spanish. Six eminent scientists from around the world and from different
fields of basic science -- including ICTP researcher Matteo Marsili and
Scientific Council member Mercedes Pascual -- will discuss how their
research has contributed to solving problems related to sustainable
development. The registration link and more information are available
