*New entry requirements for travelers to Canada effective *

*15th March 2016 *

We would like to inform you that a new entry requirement, known as an 
*Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)*, will affect visa-exempt foreign 
nationals – *Italian citizens *included *traveling to or through Canada 
by air as of 15th March 2016*.

*Impact and info *

*Italian citizens generally have to apply for an eTA*. Not all travelers 
will be affected: exemptions include U.S. citizens and travelers with a 
valid visa. Entry requirements for other methods of travel (land, sea) 
will not change.

Affected travelers are encouraged to *apply for an eTA online *prior to 
the effective date of 15th March 2016 when it will be mandatory for 
travelers to *have an eTA before boarding a flight *to Canada, similarly 
to what happens for entry to the United States with the ESTA.

To obtain the eTA you need *a valid passport, a credit card, an e-mail 
address and the payment of seven Canadian dollars*.

The authorization is electronically linked to a traveler’s passport and 
is *valid for five years *or until passport expiration, whichever comes 
first.
