*Friday 21/3: European Day for Ancient Music*

*Tomorrow the Wunderkammer festival*features two concertsat the 
Theatrical Museum "Carlo Schmidl" downtown (Palazzo Gopcevich, Canale di 
Ponterosso, via Rossini) at 17.00 and at 19.00. Both concerts will be

*FAI tours on Sat. 22/3 & Sun. 23/3*

The Italian Environmental Fund, FAI, is organizing this coming 
Saturday,22 March and on Sunday 23 March tours to locations which are 
usually closed to the public. The tours will cover the Commercial Museum 
in Piazza della Borsa downtown, the Neoclassical Stock Exchange building 
in Piazza della Borsa or the Electrical substation conversion at the Old 
Port built in 1913. You will only be asked to donate euro 3/head to the 
organization or, if you wish, you can purchase a bag especially designed 
by FAI for euro 10. For more info:

*Friday and Sunday: CATS at the Rossetti Theatre*

This amazing, historical musical is playing in Trieste tomorrow, Fri. 
21/3 at 20.30 at the Rossetti theatre in Viale XX settembre. The show

*TOURING THIS AREA*

*Guided tour of Trieste*every day at 10.30 a.m.: A 2 hours guided 
walking tour through the main sites and monuments of Trieste. The tour 
is in Italian and English and costs euro 7/pers. Book your tour by

*The Miramare Castle *is right next to the ICTP and is open every day - 
except Monday mornngs - from 9.00 to 18.30. Entrance to the surrounding 
park is free (8.00 - 16.00, until the end of February). The location, 
gardens, castle with the lovely decor and furnishings, paintings, rooms

*The Castle of Duino *is one of the most attractive castles in Europe 
and is still the official residence of the Torre e Tasso royal family. 
 From its cliff top location there is a stunning view of the sea as it 
overlooks a small fishing village and is surrounded by colourful, 
extensive gardens. Inside, you can admire the furnishings, paintings, 
books and mementoes collected over centuries; visit its beautiful park 
and the World War 2 bunker. Open every day from 9:30 - 16:30*The Civico 
Museo Sartorio is a Villa *that**once belonged to the Sartorio dynasty 
originally from Sanremo. A branch of the family moved in 1775 to Trieste 
as part of its business expansion. Pietro Sartorio here with his family 
and bought the house, previously owned by the merchant family Faraon, 
originary from Alexandria of Egypt. The last heir of the Sartorio 
family, Baroness Anna Segrè Sartorio, left the villa and all the 
furniture to Trieste's city council with the explicit wish to make it a 
public museum. The villa was used by the Allies, as their headquarter 
after WW2, as can be seen by the marks on the tiles and walls where the 
telephone and electric leads were brought through. Besides the villa 
itself being a very interesting building architecturally, it contains 
drawings of famous XVII century artists Giambattista Tiepolo.

*Visit the Museum of the Sea*in Viale Campo Marzio, 5 at the far end of 
the seafront downtown. It tells the history of shipyards, navigation and 
fishing in the Adriatic Sea, displaying models of ships, dioramas and 
old navigation tools. Special sections are dedicated to Giuseppe Ressel 
and experiments by Guglielmo Marconi.Open each day from Thursday to

The *Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante*is considered the largest tourist cave 
in the world, situated in the Karst half an hour from the city centre. 
An exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed 
by university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements 
of the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each 
visit lasts one hour. Entrance ticket:Euro 11/each. For groups of over 
15 persons: Euro 5/head. Take bus 42 from Piazza Oberdan and get off at 
Borgo Grotta, Sgonico -- proceed by foot for 5 minutes -- follow road 
sign for Grotta Gigante. Wear comfortable shoes, no heels. Check

*NATURE AT ITS BEST:*

*Hiking in Val Rosandra (half or full day), Trieste*

The//Val Rosandra Valley encloses a remarkable natural environment and 
it's really worthwhile to take a walk through its paths, by the stream 
and natural ponds, surrounded by typical carsic vegetation. Make sure 
you have good sneakers on and enough water. Walk along colour-marked 
footpaths, each marked by CAI (Italian Alpine Club), ranging from very 
easy paths to others that require a certain ability. There are easily 
accessible caves for speleologists and archaeology lovers and a 
trattoria right at the beginning of the valley. You can reach it by 
taking Bus 40 from the Central Train Station in Trieste and getting off 
in Bagnoli della Rosandra.

*"La Napoleonica" Panoramic route*mostly overlooking the sea, on the 
Trieste karst. Take Bus 4 from Piazza Oberdanto the "Obelisco" and go 
walking or jogging on the Napoleonica (Napoleon's path). If you wish, 
you can take path number 12 (marked by C.A.I - Italian Alpine Club) and 
reach the Sanctuary of Monte Grisa, proceed to Opicina through the Via 
Crucis path (number 12) and finally return to the Obelisk and take the 
bus back to the city.

*MISCELLANEA*

Eat out at typical *OSMIZE*, localfarmhouses that open up in certain 
periods of the year and serve home-made hams, salamis, cheeses, boiled 
eggs, Terrano wines produced by the farmers.
