*National monument Risiera di San Sabba inaugurates Display*
*On Thursday 23/1 at 17:00: Inauguration of display showing letters,
diaries of the victims and survivors of the Risiera di San Sabba *This
is a national monument, the only Nazi crematorium in Italy. The Risiera,
built in 1913, was originally used as a rice-husking facility (hence its
name). After Sept. 8, 1943, it became a concentration camp run by SS
Nazi guards. Later on, a crematorium was built here to dispose of the
victims' corpses. According to calculations made through witnesses, the
number of victims cremated her is about 3 - 5 thousand persons and an
even greater amount of people stopped over here on their fatal
destination to Buchenwald, Dachau and Auschwitz.

each day from 9 - 19. Free for all.

*Syrian Physician-Poet Golan Haji presents his *book "L'Autunno qui e'
magico e immenso" in Café' San Marco on 25/1/14 a*t 19:00 hrs*
Golan Haji is touring Italy to present his book of poetry, which begins
from Trieste, his city of dreams where he comes to know of Svevo, Joyce,
Saba. Free entrance.The presentation will be held in Trieste's old
historical Cafe' San Marco, in via Battisti 18 downtown.

The *Campo Marzio Railway Museum* in via Giulio Cesare 1 (downtown, at
the end of the sea front) was started in 1984 by a group of railway
workers keen on introducing the history of the local railways system.The
rooms of this former railway station are dedicated to electrical
motive power, trams and interlocking systems.It displays various models
of locomotives and carriages. Open Wed., Sat. & Sun from 9:00 - 13:00.
Take buses 8 or 9.
The *Marine Aquarium* on the sea front (Molo Pescheria, 2 is not very
big but is quite a cute little place to spend some time with your
children or with fish lovers. The upper floor even hosts a collection of
reptiles, frogs, toads, lizards and snakes. Open Tuesdays to Sundays
from 9:00 - 19:00.Take buses 8 & 9 there.
*The Collection of Scaramanga' di Altomonte (Collezione Scaramanga' di
Altomonte) *in via F. Filzi 1, downtown is a prestigious foundation that
exhibits, on a rotation basis, documents, furniture, ceramics and works
of art.It is in an apartment which is part of an 1800s building where
Baron Giuseppe Scaramanga' used to live you. On display the first
printed books dating from 1455 onwards and a rich collection of antique
playing cards and prints. The rooms are still furnished in the 1800s
style. Open only on Tuesdays and Fridays, call to book. Entrance

*Visit the Museum of the Sea *in Viale Campo Marzio, 5 at the far end of
the seafront downtown. It tells the history of shipyards, navigation and
fishing in the Adriatic Sea, displaying models of ships, dioramas and

and experiments by Guglielmo Marconi.Open each day from Thursday to

3: a typical Triestine old-fashioned food place where one can have
excellent ham sandwiches at the bar or enjoy the special house dish, a
variety of meats served with sauerkraut and freshly grated horseradish.
Good selection of wines and beers. Reviewed by the New York Times as the
best in the Region. Only hitch: it's not as cheap as you'd wish!
