SPECIAL EVENTS

CHINA OPEN DAY on Saturday, 29 June mainly for INTERESTED RESIDENTS at the
Cultural Association Han Lin in Via Milano 17 (right next to the Central
Post Office), 1st floor, Trieste. The Han Lin Association teaches Chinese
(to children and adults), calligraphy, organizes cultural events, etc. The
China Open Day event begins at 18.00 with a brief introduction and short,
half an hour talks on Chinese culture, traditions, language, calligraphy.
A small buffet will be served at 19.45, followed by an interesting
documentary on China. This event will end at around 21.00 hrs. For

TRISKELL CELTIC FESTIVAL: open until Sunday, 30 June at the Boschetto del
Ferdinandeo in via Marchesetti. Open each day from 16.00 - 23.30 hrs with
alot of music, bands, celtic traditions & costumes, food and drinks, BBQs,
games, stories, theatre, trinkets  and much more. Very popular and
crowded, many visitors from abroad. How to get there: Mondays to

FILM FESTIVAL
MAREMETRAGGIO INTERNATIONAL, SHORT FILM  FESTIVAL (from 30/6 to 6/07)
WHERE? At TEATRO MIELA, Via Cavour, very close to the Central train
Station (5' walk) & PIAZZA VERDI featuring sixty-nine short films, the

CLIMATE WARMING DOCUMENTARY
Tonite at 18.30 view "An inconvenient truth", a documentary-film on global
warming with scientific info and data on climate change and events related
to the life of Al Gore, Clinton's former vice president. The documentary
will be viewed at Panorama Giustinelli in via Giustinelli, 13, Trieste.
The film is in Italian with English subtitles, book your seat and ring

AAART EXHIBITIONS
AT Trieste's old WASH-HOUSE (Lavotoio), visit the art show entitled "A
HOMAGE TO FAMOUS SCULPTOR & PAINTER BRUNO CHERSICLA" who recently passed
away. In Via San Giacomo in Monte, 9, San Giacomo, Trieste. Open until
30/6, Monday-Friday 16-19 and Saturday 10-12 & 16-19. Take bus nr 1 from
the Central train station.

 At Lux Art Gallery in via Rittmeyer, 7 , Trieste solo art show "Da New
York a Trieste" by artist Franco Manià displaying 80 paintings. Open
17.00 - 20.00. Ongoing until 12/7.

At the ONE SAN Gallery in via S. Nicolo', 1, Trieste:  "The poetry of the
essential", an exhibit of works by historical Triestine artist Luigi
Spacal (1907-2000), sixty works on display until 21/7/2013. Open Tuesdays
-Saturdays,  10-13 and 17-20.

TOURING THIS AREA
The Miramare Castle is right next to the ICTP and is open every day -
except on Monday mornings - from 9.00 to 18.30. Entrance to the
surrounding park is free (8.00 - 19.00). The location, gardens, castle
with the lovely decor and furnishings, paintings,rooms full of history are
not to be missed. Ticket: Euro 4/head. For more info:The Natural Reserve
of Miramare, WWF, is located in a building inside the park of  Miramare
and is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 - 13:00 and 14:00 - 16:00.

Centre Laboratorio dell'Immaginario at the Adriatico Guesthouse,
(Grignano), is an interactive and multimedial museum. It has interesting
experiments and videos and more. It hosts exhibitions, events and
activities with the aim of spreading scientific and technological culture.
There are special programs for children each month. Open January to May
and October to December only on Sundays from 12.00 - 20.00. Open from June
to September on Saturdays and Sundays, from 15.00 - 20.00.

The Duino Castle is one of the most attractive castles in Europe and is
still the official residence of the Torre e Tasso royal family. From its
cliff top location there is a stunning view of the sea as it overlooks a
small fishing village and is surrounded by colourful, extensive gardens.
Inside, you can admire the furnishings, paintings, books and mementoes
collected over centuries; visit its beautiful park and the World War 2
bunker. Open every day from 9:30 - 16:30. Tickets: Euro 5. For more info:

The Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante is considered the largest tourist cave in
the world, situated in
the Triestine Karst (Carso), half an hour from the city center. An
exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by
university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of
the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each visit
lasts one hour. Entrance ticket:  Euro 11/each. For groups of over 15
persons: Euro 5/head. Take bus 42 from Piazza Oberdan and get off at Borgo
Grotta, Sgonico – proceed by foot for 5 minutes – follow road sign for
Grotta Gigante. Wear comfortable shoes, no heels. Check website:

The Carsiana Botanical Garden. Is located within a "dolina" (sinkhole) in
Sgonico, 18 km from Trieste. It was created in 1964 to collect, conserve
and exhibit the native flora of the Karst in its natural context. The
garden is open from May to October with the following schedule: Tuesday
-Friday: 09.30 – 13.00; Saturday-Sunday and public holidays: 10.00-13.00,
15.00-19.00. Ticket: € 3.00 full; € 2.00 reduced. Guided visits: Tuesday -
Friday at 10.00; Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at 10.30 and
16.00. Guided tours can also be booked at other times.

DREHER BEER MUSEUM
THE ONLY ONE IN ITALY IN Via Torrebianca 41, Trieste. It displays objects,
documents, posters, ads that belong to the historical tradition of this
old beer factory. Open only on Wednesdays, from 16.30 - 19.00. For more

ADVENTURE PARK
Spend a few hours at the recently inaugurated Trieste's Adventure Park and
enjoy a sporty, acrobatic fun time jumping from one tree to another,
"flying" like Tarzan from one location to another and many other fun
trails. The park is in the midst of the karst and its amazing nature,
close to Sistiana, so don't miss it for an unforgettable experience. Take
the boat from Grignano to Sistiana (schedules>

then take bus 43 from Sistiana to Ceroglie, Duino Aurisina . When you get
off at Ceroglie, walk about 10 minutes to reach the park. Tickets for 2,5
hrs.:  Adults 17 euro/each, Kids 6-8 yrs old, 12 euro;  9-14 yrs old:  14
euro;  15-17 yrs old  15 euro. Open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays,
Saturdays and Sundays from 10.00 - 20.00. Open on Fridays only if bookings

OSMIZE
For those interested in going to an "osmiza" or private farm house in the
karst hills, there are many open during this weekend. The origins of the
osmiza dates back to the Austrian times when the Austrian Emperor Joseph
II gave permission to all his citizens to sell directly their wine and
some of their own goods (cheese, eggs, bread, ham) for a period of eight
days. The word comes from the Slovenian language, "osem" (eight). Check
