*Special Popular local event: CARSIC MARRIAGE (Nozze Carsiche)*
This event takes place every other year and is full of local folklore
and tradition of the karst. Visitors can witness the stag and hen
parties, where the engaged couples greet their friends; the serenade
that the groom dedicates to his beloved; the transportation of the dowry
to the groom's house and finally, on Sunday, watch the real Carsic
wedding There will be music, dances, carriages, horses, typical foods
and wines served everywhere. This year Neza and Jernej will be getting
married.This special feast will take place in _Repen Monrupino,_

*The Jahduo afrobeat Tribal MUSIC in BARCOLA*
*On Friday, 23/8*at 21.00near the fountain of Barcola, there will be a
performance by the Jahduo afrobeat tribal fusion wih African sounds, the
roots of music, with Honore' Dje' Dje', Henri Dissake', Kader Diop,
Assane Adissa, Aw Zikroulah, two young rappers and two African singers.

Last two days to see this! On Friday and Saturday (in Italian), the
Lights & Sounds show about the sad story of Maximilian d'Absburg from
Miramare to Mexico and his wife Carlotta who dwelled in the Miramare

*VAL ROSANDRA*
Now that the weather is not as hot as before, you may like to visit the
Val Rosandra Valley which encloses a remarkable natural environment
which reveals its true beauty in autumn. It is situated half an hour by
bus from the city centre. There are several hiking easy and not so easy,
an old rail station that once connected Trieste to Vienna in the past
centuries, now converted into a cycling path. There is stream, a Roman
aqueduct, a restaurant and rock climbers enoy training there. Beware of
ticks.

Take bus 40 from the train station (it goes to Dolina) and get off in
strada della Rosandra.

*GUIDED TOUR OF TRIESTE*every day at 10.30 a.m.: A 2 hours guided

*The Revoltella Modern Art Museum is *located downtown; it was**founded

who left his house to the city (located in Piazza Venezia) after he
passed away. It still displays all the art works, furniture and books of
his time. The main building was built in 1858 designed by Friedrich

1907 the City acquired the Brunner Building located nearby in order to
expand the original collection. This building was completely used only
since 1963 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1963>, following the
restructuring of Carlo Scarpa

composed of three buildings, with main entrance from Via Diaz 27. It has
a remarkable collection of modern art (1860 to 1970), baroque art and

*The Natural History Museum - See one of the most intact dinosaur
skeletons in the world: "Antonio", adinosaur discovered in Trieste
*(Duino) a few years ago, see fossils, old 1800 furniture, books,

*TORRI DI SLIVIA CAVE*
This cave is considered one of the marvels of Triese's karst and has
beautiful valuts, peculiar stalagtites and stalagmites ofabout 7 mt
tall. The most famous are the stalgmitic towers, a group of 8
concretions after which the cave is named. Open in August each day for
guided visits only at 10.30 - 14.00 - 15.30 and 17.00. Ticket:Euro
8/head. It is located at Duino Aurisina, take bus 44 from either Roiano,
train station or Piazza Oberdan.

*The Miramare Castle *is right next to the ICTP and is open every day -
except on Monday mornings - from 9.00 to 18.30. Entrance to the
surrounding park is free (8.00 - 19.00). The location, gardens, castle
with the lovely decor and furnishings, paintings,rooms full of history

The *Natural Reserve of Miramare, WWF,* is located in a building inside
the park ofMiramare and is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 -
13:00 and 14:00 - 16:00. Entrance costs Euro 2,50/head.

The *Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante*is considered the largest tourist cave
in the world, situated in
the Triestine Karst (Carso), half an hour from the city center. An
exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by
university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of
the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each visit
lasts one hour. Entrance ticket:Euro 11/each. For groups of over 15
persons: Euro 5/head. Take bus 42 from Piazza Oberdan and get off at
Borgo Grotta, Sgonico -- proceed by foot for 5 minutes -- follow road

*Summer ferries (Delfino Verde) to Grado until 1/9/13: Every day
departure from Molo Audace in Trieste (close to Piazza Unità) at 08:15,

*For those interested in going to an "osmiza" or private farm house in
the karst hills, there are many open during this weekend. *The origins
of the osmiza dates back to the Austrian times when the Austrian Emperor
Joseph II gave permission to all his citizens to sell directly their
wine and some of their own goods (cheese, eggs, bread, ham) for a period
of eight days. The word comes from the Slovenian language, "osem"
