WHAT'S ON THIS WEEKEND 			1 - 4 August 2013

OPEN AIR CINEMA at PIAZZA VERDI: Italian movies, free admission
Tonite in Piazza Verdi (next to Piazza Unita') at 21.30 see film  "Viva la
liberta'" by producer Ando'. Tomorrow features "Benvenuto Presidente!" by
producer Milani. On Saturday: "Educazione siberiana" (Siberian education)
by producer Gabriele Salvatores. On Sunday "Io sono Li" by Segre with
actress Zhao Tao, shot in Chioggia. Free admission.

LUCI & SUONI, Lights & Sounds in Piazza Venezia (after Piazza Unita')

At 21.30 on Fridays and Saturdays in Italian, the Lights & Sounds show
about the sad story of Maximilian d'Absburg from Miramare to Mexico and
his wife Carlotta who dwelled in the Miramare Castle in Trieste in the
XXIX century.  Tenor Giuseppe Di Stefano will sing for the public. Every
Monday in German and Fridays and Saturdays in Italian. Ongoing until 24/8.
Free for all.

IMMAGINARIO SCIENTIFICO SCIENCE CENTRE DOWNTOWN at the SALONE DEGLI
INCANTI (located on the sea front after Piazza Unita') with hands-on
exhibits, multivisions, scientific labs, conferences, shows, exhibits, and
many other interactive experiments.  You will find a close connection
between science, music and art and a contest for architects, designers,
engineers and creative people under 35 years of age called "Wunder". Open
until 10/8/2013, from 17-23 every day. Tomorrow 2/8 from 17.00 - 23.00 3D
Course by ICTP On Sat. 3/8 from 17-20, 3D courses by ICTP; at 21.00 Talk
by Ranellucci, author of SLic3r, software open source. On Sun. 4/8 from

FREE SUMMER YOGA CLASSES
Yoga rendezvous downtown on 6 August from 8.00 - 8.45 at Galleria
Tergesteo (close to Piazza Unita';). This initiative is promoted by the
Joytinat Yoga Ayurveda Ass., free admittance. Wear white clothes and bring

TOURING THIS AREA
The Miramare Castle is right next to the ICTP and is open every day -
except on Monday mornings - from 9.00 to 18.30. Entrance to the
surrounding park is free (8.00 - 19.00). The location, gardens, castle
with the lovely decor and furnishings, paintings,rooms full of history are

The Duino Castle is one of the most attractive castles in Europe and is
still the official residence of the Torre e Tasso royal family. From its
cliff top location there is a stunning view of the sea as it overlooks a
small fishing village and is surrounded by colourful, extensive gardens.
Inside, you can admire the furnishings, paintings, books and mementoes
collected over centuries; visit its beautiful park and the World War 2
bunker. Open every day from 9:30 - 16:30. Tickets: Euro 5. For more info:

The Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante is considered the largest tourist cave in
the world, situated in
the Triestine Karst (Carso), half an hour from the city center. An
exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by
university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of
the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each visit
lasts one hour. Entrance ticket:  Euro 11/each. For groups of over 15
persons: Euro 5/head. Take bus 42 from Piazza Oberdan and get off at Borgo
Grotta, Sgonico – proceed by foot for 5 minutes – follow road sign for
Grotta Gigante. Wear comfortable shoes, no heels. Check website:

The Carsiana Botanical Garden. Is located within a "dolina" (sinkhole) in
Sgonico, 18 km from Trieste. It was created in 1964 to collect, conserve
and exhibit the native flora of the Karst in its natural context. The
garden is open from May to October with the following schedule: Tuesday
-Friday: 09.30 – 13.00; Saturday-Sunday and public holidays: 10.00-13.00,
15.00-19.00. Ticket: € 3.00 full; € 2.00 reduced. Guided visits: Tuesday -
Friday at 10.00; Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at 10.30 and
16.00. Guided tours can also be booked at other times.

City Sight-seeing tour by bus (like the red London buses), lasts for one
hour, departing from the Stazione Marittima (close to Piazza Unita'), 3
tours in the mornings (10-12) and 4 in the afternoons (14-17), Ticket

IN THE OUTSKIRTS OF TRIESTE
MUGGIA UNDER THE STARS
The lovely fishing village of Muggia has a very lively summer programme
with concerts and offers evenings full of music starting from 20.30.
Go to Muggia by boat (1/2 hr trip). Depart from Molo Bersaglieri, downtown

TANGO AT DUINO
On Sat. 3/8 at 21.15 at Prepotto in Duino Aurisina, music by the Neotango
quartet with Massimiliano Pitocco , Carla Agostinello, Alessandro
Vavassori and Giovanni Rinaldi who will play Italian and Argentinian
music. Free entrance.

ADVENTURE PARK
Spend a few hours at the recently inaugurated Trieste's Adventure Park and
enjoy a sporty, acrobatic fun time jumping from one tree to another,
"flying" like Tarzan from one location to another and many other fun
trails. The park is in the midst of the karst and its amazing nature,
close to Sistiana, so don't miss it for an unforgettable experience. Take
the boat from Grignano to Sistiana (schedules>

then take bus 43 from Sistiana to Ceroglie, Duino Aurisina . When you get
off at Ceroglie, walk about 10 minutes to reach the park. Tickets for 2,5

euro;  15-17 yrs old  15 euro. Open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays,

OSMIZE
For those interested in going to an "osmiza" or private farm house in the
karst hills, there are many open during this weekend. The origins of the
osmiza dates back to the Austrian times when the Austrian Emperor Joseph
II gave permission to all his citizens to sell directly their wine and
some of their own goods (cheese, eggs, bread, ham) for a period of eight
days. The word comes from the Slovenian language, "osem" (eight). Check
