*PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW AT the ICTP*

*On **Thursday, 27 September 2012 at 18:30 at the Adriatico Guesthouse, 
ICTP will inaugurate an international photography exhibit entitled 
"POLLUTION"* . This event is part of the VIII edition of Trieste's 
renowned Triestèfotografia Festival. On display there are the works of 
about 20 photographers selected by the popular JULIET Art Magazine. The 
exhibit will be presented by Mr. Boris Brollo, art critic and President 
of the International Association of Plastic Arts - Aiap -that operates 
under the aegis of Unesco and by Mr. Alessio Curto, deputy director of 
Juliet Art Magazine. The selected photographers are: Cinzia Ambrosini, 
Luca Carrà, Nada Cingolani, Sabine Delafon, Giuseppe Desiato, DNA 79 
(Francesco Sbaiz), Raoul Gilioli, Rino Gropuzzo, Plinio Martelli, 
Maurizio Melozzi, Marco Moschini, Gianni Pasinato, Adriano Perini, Paolo 
Pirona, Matjaz( Pres(eren, Stefano Reia, Fabio Rinaldi, Mario Sillani 
Djerrahian, Willmar Schwabe, Oliviero Toscani, Pierre Verrier, Valerio

*"Trieste NEXT" Event from 28 - 30 September 2012 **/ /**A European 
Innovation and Science Research Forum* (28-30 September 2012), the first 
edition of a major event downtown and a laboratory in which applied 
research and new technologies, concrete ideas and solutions coexist and 
find practical application that can enhance community wealth and 
business competitiveness. Meetings, keynote speeches by distinguished 
speakers, scientists, shows and performances will present science and 
its developments in an innovative way.*//*

This edition is entitled "*S.A.V.E. the FOOD*", with a special section 
focused on food in a tradion-vs-innovation perspective. On *Saturday, 29 
September* *at 15:00* at the Scuola Superiore di Lingue Moderne per 
interpreti e traduttori in via Filzi, 14 (near piazza Oberdan) ICTP will 
present a Round Table on "Climate Change: What impact on developing 
countries?" with Filippo Giorgi, G. Spataro, L. Brito, C. Carraro, M. 
Jaroslav. And also, on* 29/9 at 15.00* in Piazza Unità, ICTP will 
present "Non-numerical recipes: recipes from all over the world by the 
ICTP researchers and employees".

*ART EXHIBITIONS*

*On Thursday, 27 September at 19.15 *at the Stelio Crise Municipal 
Library* *(above Piazza Hortis, in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII),* 
*inauguration of art show* "Painters from Hamburg in Trieste" *with 
music and special lighting. Six German painters exhibit contemporary 
paintings depicting landscapes, the sea and the architecture of Trieste.

of the Photography exhibition entitled "Il mio Carso 100 anni 100 
immagini" (My karst, 100 years, 100 images), a tribute to Scipio 
Slataper (renowned Triestine Author of the novel "My Karst"-1912), 
ongoing until 4/11, with the following schedules: Monday and Thursday 
from 10.00 to 13.00 and from 15.00 to 17.00; on Tuesday and Wednesday

*The Miramare Castle *is right next to the ICTP and is open every day 
from 9.00 to 18.30. Entrance to the surrounding park is free (8.00 - 
19.00). The location, gardens, castle with the lovely decor and 
furnishings, paintings, rooms full of history are not to be missed. For

*The Duino Castle* is one of the most attractive castles in Europe and 
is still the official residence of the Torre e Tasso royal family. From 
its cliff top location there is a stunning view of the sea as it 
overlooks a small fishing village and is surrounded by colourful, 
extensive gardens. Inside, you can admire the furnishings, paintings, 
books and mementoes collected over centuries; visit its beautiful park 
and the World War 2 bunker. It is open from 9.30 to 17.30; closed on 
Tuesdays. On Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th a new part of the park will 
be open to the public. During this week end the entrance ticket will

*The Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante*

The cave is considered the largest tourist cave in the world, situated 
on the Triestine Karst and an exclusive feature of the cave is the 
horizontal pendulum, constructed by university researchers in order to 
calculate the slightest movements of the earth's crust. The temperature 
is constantly around 11º and the tour lasts around one hour. Open from 
10.00 to 18.00 (as from October from 10.00 to 16.00). Entrance tickets:

_Trieste's historical cafes_: The Tommaseo Cafe' (Riva 3 Novembre) and 
the San Marco Cafe' (Via Battisti 13) are places where writers, 
intellectuals and artists still meet. Presentation of books, art 
exhibits and musical evenings are held there.

_Best ice cream in town_: Gelateria Zampolli, in via Ghega near the 
train station or in Viale XX Settembre, where ice creams are made in the 
traditional way with over 68 flavours.

*"La Napoleonica" Panoramic route* mostly overlooking the sea, on the 
Trieste karst. Take Bus 4 from Piazza Oberdan to the "Obelisco" and go 
walking or jogging on the Napoleonica (Napoleon's path). If you wish, 
you can take path number 12 (marked by C.A.I - Italian Alpine Club) and 
reach the Sanctuary of Monte Grisa, proceed to Opicina through the Via 
Crucis path (number 12) and finally return to the Obelisk and take the 
bus back to the city.

*Hiking in Val Rosandra (half or full day), Trieste*

/Provided the weather is fine and sunny, t/he Val Rosandra Valley 
encloses a remarkable natural environment and a walk through its paths, 
and by the stream and natural ponds, surrounded by typical carsic 
vegetation is worth it. Make sure you have good sneakers on and enough 
water. Walk along colour-marked footpaths, each marked by CAI (Italian 
Alpine Club), ranging from very easy paths to others that require 
certain ability. There are easily accessible caves for speleologists and 
archaeology lovers. You can reach the Valley by taking Bus 40 from the 
Central Train Station in Trieste and get off in Bagnoli della Rosandra.

Registration to the European Marathon and the Triestine Marathon are

(for the first 250 registered runners).
